Anyways, the point of this is, why do folks pod people like that? I could understand it if he demanded money or tribute or something. You know, general piratical stuff... This guy came out of nowhere, burned my ship, then burned my pod. Never said a word, never demanded anything, just burned me down. Didn't make sense.
The game is an interesting window onto the human scale. The lack of accountability means that people tend to behave as they really are, not as they pretend to be in civilization.
You have discovered an honest to goodness a*****e. And good lord are there a lot of them.
Sorry, but I think you have it backwards. Anybody with strong values would not rob or shoot at someone in real life, and this particular game gives you the chance to do something outside of what you'd do in a real life situation. The acts of our characters in this game do not reflect our own personalities (unless we want them to) simply because they don't have to.

A large number of pirates are biomass collectors. They like to line up the frozen corpses in their hangers. If the frozen corpse was not collectable, I expect you'd see fewer poddings ;)

"I will fix this:
"is because it's very satisfying to kill someone within the game.""
RL personality traits do play a role, as much as the "pirates" try to deny it, it's not all just RP'ing... ------------------------------------------------ "for piece sakes!" |

This is true actually - psychological research has shown it, although I'm having trouble finding the references on google....

I think people pod for any one or more of numerous reasons.
-It can REALLY discourage people from coming back to that system. Maybe they were defending their territory.
-Not only does the person have to pay for a new ship and modules, but now they have to buy a new clone. Perhaps they are not just a pirate. Perhaps theyÆre trying to increase business for their manufacturing alt/buddies/corp.
-They want you to possibly lose skills and implants in addition to money.
-Icing on the cake. Some people are just vindictive.
-They figure ôHeck, IÆve gone this far, whatÆs a podding on top of everything else?ö
-They love hearing people complain about game mechanics on the forums.

Well if there's scientific evidence...
As for me, though, I prefer to enjoy the game in all its areas, be them PvP or peaceful industry and trade. I can assure you that I would not rob a random pedestrian or blow up someone's car, even if I have podded a few players in EVE. I prefer to think of players of the same game competing with each other to be all in the spirit of sportsmanship. Nobody loses anything (real) and it's just fun. Still, when a character is killed in-game, it's not like the aggressor did anything outrageous; it was allowed by the rules for him to do it. |

Correction, blowing up everyone and everything is a nice way to get rid of the stress people get from boring jobs/school. What people do ingame rarely has a relation to real life. Or so i read.
That and popping stuff is fun, its not like anyone ever pays the toll anyway. Either they: - Waste your time by telling you they need time to collect it and then trying to take so long you get bored and leave or crash. - Whine about your sexual preference, the way your mother looks or how bad your childhood must have been for just randomly attacking poor miners.
Hell, even with resonable prices they try and get out of it. Might as well gank em right away. Biomass can be sold on the market in the future, might not be worth much but hey... ---------------------------
