A few times now I have been flying about in space, when people start shooting at me. When my ship is destroyed then they start to shoot at my capusle. I demand they cease fire in local, but they never do cease fire.
What is the point in destroying my capusle? It does no harm and it is a pain to go back to the station where I am delivered to when it is destroy.
Thanks for your input

Relocate your medical clone to a better location then. As for the podding, why not? If you are hostile to the target and the consequences of podding don't matter, you might as well inflict as much damage as possible. A character in a pod can still relay intelligence, so it's better to kill them, unless you have a reason to spare them.

Edited by: Slade Trillgon on 19/01/2009 12:54:04 If you went into .4 or lower space then you can assume that you are going to loose both your ship and your pod so you want to make sure that it is safe to go. So only leave the station in something you are willing to loose.
Set your destination and open up your star map and go to the My Statistics tab you can select the option for the systems to show how many pods destroyed in the last hour. If systems, on your route, light up that means there is likely to be a gate camp. You then avoid the system till it clears up or use an alt to scout the gates out to make sure.
As for your clone, in the star map go to the highlight systems with cloning facilities. Find a system that is close to your current base of operations and set your clone there. This makes the trip after you get podded a little less frustrating.
Good Luck Pilot,

Like others have said, it sounds like you're flying in low sec. For now stay in .5 or higher systems. You also might want to consider joining a corporation if you haven't already. There is strength in numbers.
As for being out numbers, in Eve, numbers help insure victory.
Oh, and they blow up your pod so you'll be forced to spend money to upgrade your clone.

Why are you flying somewhere where the locals make it abundantly clear you are not wanted?
If you fly into space controlled by a hostile faction, they will treat you as an enemy and destroy as much of you as they can to inflict maximum damage. If you do not want to suffer that damage, don't go there. If you want to go there, make sure you bring something to the table that allows you to move around there uncontested(like a larger fleet consisting of your friends).
Honor has no place in all out war. Many sectors outside of CONCORD control are in such a state.
You lost at PvP. PvP in EVE means you first make sure that you are certain to defeat the opponent you targeted, and secondly that you make sure that that opponent can not flee the moment he realizes he is outnumbered. Ambushes at warpgates are a popular way of assuring that. Keep that in mind and, as mentioned above, assume that every gate you jump through has a hostile gatecamp waiting for you on the other side unless you know for sure there isn't.

Lets take an example of a Deer Hunter The deer doesn't have ranged weapons it doesn't benefit from custom camouflage or synthetic cover scent. But people still enjoy hunting with rifles. Lets not get started on English Fox Hunting
People enjoy the chase, they have no way of knowing you didn't know how to run. They might even have mistaken for a spy alt character.
It sounds like you got killed a gate camp though; So in your case, you're just a deer who got caught in the headlights, but you can definitely learn to listen for the engine noise next time(figuratively that is). and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Excellent analogy, but that last bit is where it fails, and its why these threads come up as often as they do. There is no engine noise, tire tracks and discarded beer cans, there is nothing whatsoever to indicate a trap. You can learn the hot spots, you can use the map, use a scout alt, all these little things maybe, perhaps, might save you.
That said, everyone here have had that "awww crap, not again" moment when jumping into a camped system. You learn to cope. Stay in it op, theres no glory here, but a lot of fun |

Actually, when entering lowsec, there are some possible indicators, such as amount of people in the system recently and ships/pods killed recently. Admittedly, they don't work always (you might be the first to fall into the trap) but at times, they do.

Ok if you are being serious (and i really have got to doubt that). Then this is one of those things you need to get used to.
Its EVE. Its a harsh game. No one cares about honour and decency here because they dotn have to. (ok some people do, but most of them don't).
Its not going to change. Ever. Its how the game works. People will kill you. And they will laugh. At the end of the day. Its a game.
And damage controll really doesn't cost much.....

You need to join a player corpration in order to learn more about the game. Dear Cat o'Ninetails.
EvE isn't like any other MMO. Players in this game can be extremely territorial and spiteful. Often they will kill other players purely on a whim. It's a dog-eat-dog universe out there. If you want to survive in this game, you'll have to play smart. You'll have to be on your toes and keep a little paranoia.
If you missed it, there's quite a few new player guides here on the forums. Linkage. Read them, don't skim through them. The less you read, the less prepared you are. This is a game of reading and paying attention. ______________ Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn. |

I would be interested to hear your views on this ability.
It's simple: 10 Gigawatt laser + diffraction grating = smacked in the face with a rainbow.

THREAD HIJACK
This thread is now about unicorns, puppies, rainbows and the ability use them to smack people in the face.
GO
This shirt only has one unicorn and a broken rainbow (being eaten), but I wear it regularly when I go to the office. My co-workers think I'm insane but that's okay. That unicorn looks so depressed! It is as if he is thinking, "Oh, I am so depressed! I'm going to eat my rainbow... Oh no, now I'm fat AND depressed! Well shoot... I'm hungry, I'm going to eat more, it'll make me feel better... Oh no, now I'm even MORE fat!"

Edited by: Sidus Isaacs on 20/01/2009 01:06:03 Here the other day some guy looted a NPC wreck I killed, and lacking anything better to do I shoot him up with my Rifter for the fun of it. He was in a caracal, and barly a few weeks old, so he pops. I did not kill his pod however, as I kinda need to get back into empire for some reasons rather soon.
But I convoed him trying to give him a few pointers about low sec, but the first thing he does after I say "hello" is fling a lot of racial slurs at me :S. Needless to say urge to pod rises :P.
Other times I pod just out of the blue, because I can, or since they do not manage to get their pod out in time. I also podded a "bad pirate" with a -9,8 sec stat, fun thing about that is you can pod em at stations without fear of sentries (why o why was he outside a station in a pod in the first place? :P).
But its not true that a pod can not be a threat, they may have a new ship in system/station waiting for a pilot, they may have expencive implants allowing them to fly big bad ships. Killing the pod may also kill their SP if they are not careful, and that benefits you.

Whenever I don't want to get podded, I'm podded.
There was this one instance where I decided that I wanted the insurance on my Drake and I went on a suicide run of a long lowsec chain. After getting about 35 jumps from home I finally was destroyed while ratting in a 0.1 system. I then began begging the agressor to destroy my pod to no avail (the total clone cost was less than what I could get mining). After retrieving an Ibis from the local station, I decided to fly into the heart of BoB to finally be destroyed. Suffice to say, I made it back to empire hisec after roaming around 0.0 for about 2 hours.
In conclusion: When you truly want to be podded, you will be ignored to the greatest extent. |

Since I'll pod someone in nullsec I guess that would explain all the bubble camp poddings of my own clone.

Seeing as noone answered one of the OP's first questions..
They podded you not to be mean(Though some do), but as a sound tactical decision.
You see, if they leave you in your pod after destroying your ship, you'd then proceed to talk/yell/curse/cry/whine/whatever to them in local, alerting any other prey in the area that there is a hunter on the loose.
When they pod you, it gets you out of the system immediately.
I spent a few months pirateing on one of my pvp char's, and racked up hundreds of pod kills. I had a macro at the time that I would respond to those people who convo'd/evemailed me askin why I podded them.
Simple security.
PVP is only personal to the children who play this game.
To the rest of us, it's PVP. If you learn nothing in your first few months, learn that PVP is just that. PVP. Player vs Player.
Dont' take it personal. Don't swear vendetta.. and so on. Just accept that that ship you lost was a kill to them.
You are nothing but an NPC who MAY shoot back. And usually drop crappier loot. |

I'm not going to rage at you, call you a carebear, or tell you to go to another game.
But I will explain to you that those people podkill you precisely because you ask that question. Warm fuzzy players tend to demand changes on the forums that 0.0/lowsec/pirate/PvP players do not like or want; easiest way to deal with them is kill them mercilessly until they adapt or leave.
War isn't about "glory" or "honor" or "fairness", it's about winning, because only those left standing have the luxury of pondering ethical questions. This is the way of the real world, and it is the way of EVE. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

If you think I am lying then you are wrong, i got my capusle destroyed for sure. then the pirate laughted at me.
Usually the pirate would laugh at you before he blows up your pod, or you'd be leaving local when you get into your clone.
I remember well when I first got killed good and proper, I was a big carebear at the time, taking my first truckload of Mexallon to Otsela (0.4) because the prices were best there (I wonder if the local pirates set that up). Naturally, completely oblivious to the dangers, I went in with my Badger and got properly whacked into a million pieces by two -10 pirates and losing the ship, cargo and my pod.
At the time I was a bit like you, wondering why anyone would do it, but I got over it and got a new industrial the next day. It was a lesson learned and I moved on, and I'm very happy I did or I wouldn't be where I am now. Now I go into low-sec regularly, even got a few kills on my name to boot while still mining in my Hulk and doing missions in my shiny Drake or Myrm.
Also, an Ibis is a free ship, along with the miner and gun on it. If you haven't, do the tutorial missions and then feel free to do whatever you want.
Oh, and if I'm in low-sec and I came across your Ibis and you are not moving away, I'd shoot it myself for the fun of it (and the plain old irony) |

Gate Campers suck.
I got one of my battleships killed yesterday on the way to a system, I decloaked and was aligning to the next gate as you do, and a group of 3 battleship warp scrambled me and started laying into me before I could do anything. I got away in my pod once they had destroyed it, I was ****ED!
Then I remembered I was insured, and the payout was more than I spent buying and fitting the ship I just lost, so that wasn't so bad.
I flew my alt through that gate this morning on my way back to high sec and it was clear, and thought about taking my other battleship back the same way.
I then heard through the alliance chat that one of our pilots got his ship and pod destroyed at the same spot I did, so the campers must have returned in the last 15 minutes, so I plotted a route that would avoid that gate jump, and I got gatecamped at another point in space right after a gate jump.
I invited to a private channel and was told to pay a 180 Million ISK ransom and I would be let go intact. I thought to myself for a few minutes while they gave me time to get the ISK, if I paid them, there's nothing to say they won't camp me at another gate along my route.
I told them I wouldn't pay, and they got very very foul mouthed, and destroyed my ship.
Next thing I know, I'm at my intended destination 24 jumps away, with an insurance payout big enough to buy a replacement ship, refit it, buy all my implants back, and still have enough to take my corp mates out for a beer lol.
Gate Pirates can royally suck sometimes, but sometimes, they can end up being a good thing.
They killed my ship, and I was transported instantly to where I was intending to go anyway. An hour later I have a replacement ship, and more ISK I had when they destroyed me, and they were left annoyed because they didn't get the payday they wanted.
They might have made a few million, if that, from the debris and wreckage of my ship, and I came out on top in several ways
I'm thinking about sending them a gift basket lol.

I have glory and honor! nothing is more glorious after defeating your opponent in honorable battle than ripping his head off with an inhuman cry of furious victory broadcast over TS, much to the distress of your CEO, making him wonder why he ever accepted your application to the corp. |

Perhaps I should have mentioned earlier that's the point where I got podded.
But in my case they stopped and asked for ransom. They helped me more by destroying me than they did by letting me go, so I can't complain lol.

Honor is a subjective topic, one that can be seen many ways..one possible code of honor that is more applicable to eve is the code of Omerta, typically known as 'the code of silence' most strictly adhered to by the Sicillian Mafia, among other gangs...as quoted in the book "The Rise and Fall of the Cleveland Mafia: Corn Sugar and Blood" by Rick Porrello.
Quote: Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of themself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I Die, You are forgiven, if I Live, I will kill you." Such is the Rule of Honor.
Straight and to the point, i feel.

Until as little as 150 years ago, in Japan, if someone had to trespass in a building or area you had claimed as your own (even if it were the castle of the ruling shogun), you, as well as those trespassing there, had every right to remove you by force if they so wished.
Take Rancer as an example - you might not be able to claim sovereignty, but those guys are effectively a bunch of brigands sitting at one of the pathways leading up to the Shogun's castle, and they don't feel like letting anyone pass.
You just happen to be the unfortunate sap that decided it would be quicker to go see the shogun by taking that pathway than the one you know to be protected by the Shogun's personal guard.
They don't listen because they're punishing you for making a doo-doo. ---
