This is an event which is happening, do not mention the politics please.
But did anyone see Al Gore's face. He looks like he hates watching these things after 2000.

I'm pretty sure that the mods are expecting said thread and this may be a case where they look the other way for a day as long as this doesn't turn into a flamefest. I give the thread 1 page though.
Taking bets.

The President is like the Team Mascot. Everyone knows who it is, but he is absolutely useless when it comes to playing the game. Besides, I'm never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down |

Heh...here's a part of an interview with Chris Rock asking him about this:
Quote: CNN: Are you going to watch this one, though?
Rock: I'll put it this way -- like any business is going to be getting done while this guy is getting sworn in. Like I'm going to be in a meeting. Everything is going to stop for however long it takes. Hope they get to it -- hope it's not like I gotta listen to three different versions of "The Star-Spangled Banner" or something. I hope it's not like Rosa Parks' funeral, where everybody f***ing speaks.

Just amazing the number of people in Washington watching this. The Mall is an absolute sea of people.
Love him or hate him this is a historical moment any way you slice it.

Ive found a solution to my problem. Ill just go ahead and mention politics anyway.
Im not normally very interested in US presidents, but with the current state of the country and the world, its going to be worthwhile seeing what he will do in the next 6 months. Will he disappoint everybody or will he actually do some good for the US and the rest of the world? He is being compared to Dr King because of his skin color and that alone must be quite some pressure. Then you have the situation in the middle east, the US economy, the fake terrorist threat and the social issues of the US to add to that. And more.
I dont care what the guy looks like though. Many think he is charismatic, but its whats inside the guy that counts in these difficult times. He could be butt ugly for all I care, as long as he is intelligent, honest and ambitious.

Edit: I just googled on the name and found out it was a girl. Scratch my comment above. ---

He is good at speaking... reminds me of Mel Gibson in Braveheart when he stands in front of his army.
Of course this is very intentional by the speech writers, but its still kind of cool as long as you know its not really his words.

Actually Obama is a rare politician in that he actually does write most of his own speeches. He does have speech writers of course and he works with them but not kidding that 90% of what you are hearing almost certainly came out of his own head originally.
Here ya go:
Quote: Obama takes an unusually hands-on approach to his speech writing, more so than most politicians. His best writing time comes late at night when he's all alone, scribbling on yellow legal pads. He then logs these thoughts into his laptop, editing as he goes along.
<snip>
"When you're working with Senator Obama the main player on a speech is Senator Obama," Axelrod said. "He is the best speechwriter in the group and he knows what he wants to say and he generally says it better than anybody else would."
