Are they going to nerf cloaks any time soon? I'm just getting a tad sick and tired of some red in system cloaked for hours..

Aah I don't mean make it harmless, but don't come in to outpost system, cloak up for two days (relogging after every downtime) and then try gank a ratter, then leave when you fail miserably. Make it use fuel or something?
Oh and the day the make local dissapear, I quit Eve (and my corp mates can have my stuff ) /insert more cloak ranting

Obviously from the amount of cloak whine threads you aren't the only one .
To the OP, can you show me a KM in which the aggressor used a cloaking device to kill their target, or were cloaked when they did their killing? If that ever happens, then I will agree that cloaks need a looking into in terms of fuel or something.

0.0 is supposed to where players protect themselves, and if a single, red cloaked in an outpost system is too much for you to handle, leave 0.0 tbh. The amount of things you could do to fix the situation is staggering, but you resort to crying about AFK cloaks on the forums.
Here is the AFK cloaking fix for you. Remove local. Then you have no idea what's out there. |

Just stop expecting to be able to be 100% safe in 0.0 when ratting. Either take steps to reduce your risk (watch scan, align out, salvage with a smaller ship) or just run missions in empire.
0.0 is about combat. Yes, you can make money there, but even sovereign space is just a playground for boat violence.
And local IS being changed. Before you un-sub, at least read the blogs, supposedly we'll get better scanning or a complete ui rework to make local less important. |

Removing local would indeed make it more fun. Of course you wouldn't see those lol-travel fits anymore. You know, those that look a the local "ok, no reds let's get my fitting from the other system" and then suddenly are faced up with reds and lows are full of cargo expanders :D Stop whining. |

Removing local would more just make it super easy to gank people on stations and gates, really turbo-powering camping as a tactic. Would if anything make cloaking more powerful, because you couldn't even effectively scout ahead for safe moving.
Not being able to make money in any degree of safety except in high sec means less people willing to actually fight, meaning less fun all round.
As things are, cloaking is a great tool, but it doesn't break the game really. Yes, cloakers can linger in system and generally spread terror, but that's not too bad, because almost every cloaked ship doesn't have much combat ability and you know they are there SOMEWHERE.
Without local, 0.0 become an astonishingly hostile place to anyone who doesn't have billions to splurge on replacing pvp ships.

I'd like to see a system wide scanner that can pick up a cloaked target, taking around 6 hours to complete. It may just aswell be a POS installation of some sort..
Because OP does have a point, it is kinda lame to have reds sit in your system just afk'ing until they wake up, kill someone and go back to AFK.

The flip side is that if there's any casual gankers or spies in the system who aren't watching the gate(s) or station(s) then you could slip past them undetected.
There seems to me to be many tradeoffs in this issue. As an example, ratting. Without local you can't see who pops into the system who might be wanting to gank you. On the other hand when they pop into the system they don't know you're there to be ganked, at least until they find any wrecks/cans left behind by you or catch you on scanner.
Just an observation. In my time in 0.0 I almost never used local for communication but I've had random chats in low and high sec with local so I personally have mixed opinions on seeing it disappear in any form. ____________________
