Looking for a good setup to tank most if not all LVL 4's
At the moment im using: 7 Cruise Missile Lauchers I - Wrath Cruise Missiles
2 x Gistii B-Type Small Shield Boosters 3 x Invulnerablilty Field II
2 x Power Diagnostic System II 3 x Ballistic Control Unit

swap 2 invul fields for a tech 2 kinetic shield hardener and a tech2 thermic shield hardener, being as how the npcs on this mission only deal those 2 damage types thats all you need to do.

Go on then, I'll bite the dead horse (erm, eww)
1- Get the best launchers you can, normal T1 aren't amazing. 2- Gistii B's probab;y aren't boosting enough, recommended is Pithi B's 3- You have 6 midslots, use them 4- Use mission specific hardeners, not invuls 5- A CNR is worth rigging, look at rigor rigs and possibly CCC's
There are thousands of posts about CNRs if you search around, everyone has their own opinions and styles, read up and try some but remember the golden rule.
Overtank to begin with, reduce the tank and increase the gank until you find a point where you are comfortable.
As for WC, so long as you control agro, shouldn't be an issue. I've only ever had troubles where I've had everything agro me (if that happens, call in a friend in an overtanked ship or wait for the mission to reset at DT).

If you want a permatank setup, stop reading now.
Highs: 7x cruise launcher II, or best named you can afford (xt-9000 perhaps?) plus something - maybe a tractor?
Mids: XL SB II, 4 hardeners II (mission-specific), boost amp II. If you're feeling flush, get better modules.
Lows: DCU II (saves ship on a disconnect), PDS II x2, BCU II x2.
Rigs: 3x CCC I, or maybe 2x CCC I and a core defense safeguard. (Most of the cap need in a Raven is for shield boosting.)
You might or might not find faction missiles worthwhile; I haven't (yes, I know it's hybrid charges for this) and I am flying a Kronos at the moment! IMHO the extra damage isn't worth the ten times ammo cost.
Consider damage and ROF implants. It might be worthwhile carrying fury and precision missiles for special tasks.
And don't forget drones!

7 x CN Cruise Launchers
1 x Pith A-Type X-Large 1 x Gist A-Type Boost Amp 1 x Dread Kinetic Amp 1 x Dread Thermal Amp 1 x CN Kinetic Hardner 1 x CN Thermal Hardner
3 x CN Ballistic Control 2 x Cap flux Coil II
3 x CCC
5 x Vespa II
Thats what I use, works very well, just swap the Amps and Hardners for different NPC types.

I have a pretty cheap CNR set up. Reason being is I'm not pumping the mission money back into my ship. I use it for other shtuff. If you don't mind blowing the cash and can't use T2 launchers yet, get some caldari navy launchers. The fire rate is much better. I would love to use T2 launchers, but like my ISK, I'm currently investing my skill gain into other avenues of play.
7 x Albarest Cruise launcher (meta 4) 1 x meta 4 heavy nosferatu (drain cap for shield boosting)
1 x Rat spec hardener II 1 x Other rat spec hardener II 1 x Cap Recharger II 1 x Meta 4 target painter 1 x Meta 4 shield boost amp (reduced CPU - it all barely fits) 1 x XL Shield Booster II
2 x Power Diagnostic Unit II 3 x Ballistic Control Unit II
3 x CCC I rigs (cap rechargers)
5 x Rat specific damage light drones II 5 x Rat specific damage medium drones II
EFT says my tank is something like 450/650 or whatever. Great tank. And when I swap out any of the capacitor recharging mods, the sustained tankable DPS goes down. This is not a perm set up, but very hefty and not cutting it so close that I can't go grab another Pepsi while I start in on a new NPC battleship with the cruise missiles.
My DPS is like 350-400, I can't remember off the top of my head. I can lock something at 90k and hit that same target. Usually I like to wait until they get in close, so I can salvage the mission with greater ease. It wouldn't be a horrible idea to switch to torps since I do wait until they're close in, but then I'd have to switch my rigs and crap. Probably have to buff my tank mods. No thanks. Not yet anyway.
I can do every mission but maybe the final stage (5 of 5) of that faction mission. I skip it anyway, because I'm a manufacturer, so I need my faction standing. Unfortunately I also have to skip all storylines for this same reason. =( |

Edited by: Depopulo on 29/01/2009 00:45:19 here's my CNR setup..it has been serving me well in lvl 4's....
7x T2 Cruise Launcher 1x Large Energy Vampire
1x T2 Large Shield Booster 2x T2 Shield Boost Amps 2x T2 Hardner--mission specific 1x Named target Painter
3x T2 BCU 2x T2 PDU
3x CCC1 rigs
5x T2 Light drones 2x Heavy Webbing drones
I find the Target Painter is essential and I down frigs and cruisers pretty fast. The light drones make it even faster. After the missiles nerf I dropped the 5 medium drones and carry 2 heavy webbing drones. These also make a huge difference in DPS. I save these for the NPC BS's which are going faster then the cruise missile explosion velocity.

This looks effective just based on my skills and EFT:
7x Arby Cruise 1x Heavy Diminishing
Large Shield Boost II Shield Boost Amp I Invul II Invul II Ballistic Deflection Field II Heat Dissipation Field II
2x PDU II 2x BCS II 1x Damage Control II
Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer 2x Semiconductor Memory Cell
Against a "Serpentis" damage spread (50/50 Kin/Ther) that one shows up as 512/602 Defense, with a Cap that lasts 11:46 under constant Boosting. Cap is stable at 82% with no Nos and no Boost.
Switching to an XL Clarity Ward Booster cranks the defense up to an utterly ridiculous 461/938, but the Cap only lasts 2:57 under constant Boost.
For me, that setup yields 477 DPS using 5 Vespa II's.
I prefer the Semiconductor MC's to the CCC's since they yield longer constant Boost times. The CCC's give you slightly more sustained defense, but a significant amount less time under heavy Boost. I also like using the Anti-EM rig on all my ships, as it makes me a lot stronger when I need an omni tank (PvP) or against those rats that fire a lot of EM.
This fit can easily be tweaked in the direction of either more DPS or more tank by simply changing out PDU's and BCS's. For instance, 4 PDU's jumps the defense up to 609/982 with a 3:48 Boost cap and 365 DPS. 3 BCS / 1 PDU yields 401/920 for 2:40 but 521 DPS. |
