The D2 special was an all hardener pos they put up during MC's invasion of the north. It effectivly takes forever to kill em but dont bite back.
KVEC special is the all ECM pos that looks real pretty but has no effect on dreads/supercaps. This was also before cyno jammers so honestly it made no sence to do but looked cool. A lot of ex-FLA get a good laugh whenever we see it and still wonder what KVEC was thinking.
PS: i miss you KVEC guys o/

First time I heard the term was during the middle part of the MC invasion of D2, as the momentum turned against D2 and they began a fighting retreat to Branch.
However it was mostly used in a derogatory, propaganda-esque way, meant to imply that it wasn't a valid tactic that any alliance would use in that situation but was something only an alliance as hopeless as D2 would use. Ie. It was their own speciality, the height of their appalling innovation.
In all other cases I've only heard them called resist-stars, until now of course when the propogandists wish to imply a similarity between D2's position then and Goons now
Regarding the stacking penalty I'm fairly certain it did apply then. I first tested it in late 2005 (when we setup pos during MC's Geminate invasion as it happens), and there was definetely a penalty then - I remember sticking 10 or so hardeners of the same type on a pos. Then in July 2007 (about two months after Branch fell) I calced it exactly to confirm they used the same stacking formula as ship mods do. In between then the new (harsher) stacking penalty was introduced, that was RMR? Maybe pos were stuck on the old formula until Revelations II, but there's nothing in the rev2.x patch notes about it. _

well CCP might have Ninja'ed in the change after all they had POS module stacking on the testing list (se Patch Notes section) for almost 2 years. And seeing as CCP unly just fixed the biggest bug in EVE history i cant see why this should be any diffrent.
There could have been a bug in the formula...if they have been using the same formula as the one for ships there would atleast alwayes be the big diffrence that the formular was only ever designed to work with up to 8 of the same hardners, and as there are no limits to POS setups and the ammount of modules other then CPU and PG then everything is posible...

It wasn't just the maximum hardeners combined with a dread fleet that normally wasn't larger than 10-12; the maximum Strontium load in that period was greater than four days. This caused the MC and allias the usual burnout as they advanced North and led to bringing in ever more minor and newly created alliances to backfill the systems. "Drop five towers and you can have the station", was the usual price for the territory - no one in MC actually cared how many of these new allies turned up in the fleet.
Is this the thread where we would announce that MC is talking about reforming? Ah! sorry .. I see that's a different thread. |

Too much FLA drama. Their purpose was more to make sure those pos' were safe to jump in and out of more then stoping capitals. . .there was nothing FLA could do to stop MCs cap fleet. |

Edited by: Keflin Geard on 29/01/2009 15:44:28 Think it started after the fall of L-C - D2 had a freighter party in C4C and dropped about 14 POS with as many hardeners as they could fit on a large POS, think they were all max stronted as well.
Ask Mynas - he FC'd a load of the Capital ops to remove them.

This sounds like some hardcore BDSM. Be careful, things will get out of hand fast...and we'll be lucky to live through it.
I don't see the problem with this.

Edited by: Ethan Hawk on 30/01/2009 10:09:39 I think most exciting thing of D2 was, that some of us were really thinking that we could make it. Was a sad moment to see how the big and "powerful" corps which were in G failed the whole time down in fountain/ Delve...
but as far as I can remember it was sufficent to crash at least one of your MSes in Period Basis (only in building). So decide yourself whom you should laugh at

With shorter Strontium times 50plus Dreads, I'm not sure that D2 Special is a any longer a term which conveys the full horror and challenge faced by the few guys who drove MC North.
the few times i turned up in my dread for the POS bashing with MC on the way up north we tended to have 30+ dread iirc so it was not that small a group.

This tactic was widely discussed in the xzh D2 vs goon back in oh... really old.
I cannot confirm with certainty that any of those pos' were deployed in xzh but I do remember something like that discussed while te fight was raging on the normal moons.

Originally by: Nemtar Nataal Im not sure when it was invented, but it have to have come from before CCP changed the POS sov points.
All towers use to give the same amount of sov points so from back when you could spam small towers and they made the same count towards sov as large towers.
That was Red Alliance vs The Five and they'd drop a million smalls right before downtime and then scoop them back up and leave.

Isnt this what goons call a r a p e cage?
Thats killing a staging pos and anchoring about 6+ Larges to snag anything that warps in that wasn't online when the pos popped. You get quite a few capital kills this way. |

hi,
oh wow first non-jibba-jabba thread on caod since i started eve! thats something special! (at least in my eyes) sadly i never heard the term "d2 special" before. :( but thats worth posting something anyway. :p
what i remember were those funny poses that had cruise missile batterys on mass, and all formed to something funny like a heart (simple version of that was formed like a shoebox). so the first who is picked as target by the pos(before it starts randomly cycling around) has a heart made out of cruise missile batterys flying at him till they hit him. i have seen that in space happening and laughed off my ass. i never bothered to make a screenshot. it was at the times when poses just cost 1/4th of what they cost now. not very effective but awesome fun to watch. please if someone has some screenshots of that upload them and post a link. i wish i could see that again. (i realy do)
