I've seen EVE ad's in the past, like scattered here and there on remote websites and whatnot. Howeverly lately, I'm seeing it on EVERY major news website in the world. BBC, CNN, Routers, Foxnews, etc.. Good lord!!! I almost can't go anywhere without seeing an eve-online avertisement. It's amazing! --------------

Not really. They don't play to everyone. Just you. And everyone else who does not delete cached data.

Another victim of targeted ads pulled from your browser cache. Tbh though I'm failing to see the advantage of advertising to people who are already members as that seems to be the only type these ads show up for. |

You see more adds due to the stupid new add system that is a waste of time. The adds you see are based on the websites you go to and as you visit the Eve website a lot you get a lot of adds to join Eve. So the people who already have Eve get the Eve adverts so the adverts go to waste and the people who don't play Eve don't visit the main website and so don't get Eve adds. ____ Telltale sign of their presence is non-linear teleportation (www.eve-online.com/races/theodicy/Theodicy_All.pdf)

I fail to see a reason to laugh at something that wouldn't allow eve, or anything else to expand... but at least it's not ****...

Well, hopefully they also display the ads for people who visit sites that could indicate their interest in MMOs or space MMOs. It would be smart if they could set it up to filter out people who clearly already play EVE, in comparison to people who may have visited the EVE website once but only out of curiosity and don't actually play it. Like by setting it so that X amount of visits to the EVE website within a certain period of time filter the person out because realistically that person probably already plays EVE.
I do agree it's stupid to flood current EVE players with EVE ads. ----------------------------------------------------

You're not seeing those ads because you visit the EVE website. You're seeing them because the other websites you do visit profile you as a likely EVE subscriber. Since we don't have a good way to match you, your computer, and your browser to an EVE account, we don't have a way to exclude existing subscribers from seeing those ads.
Frankly, the fact that you're seeing those ads means the system is working as designed. You are, in fact, exhibiting the browsing pattern of a good prospect for our offer - so good in fact that you're already a subscriber.
If EVE players never saw these ads, we'd be in deep kimchee.

well the real way to tell if the ads are "working" and getting new subs, would be to survey new players to see how many discovered EVE through ads.
back when i started, i first found out about EVE from such ads. |

Agreed, I visit the Eve site and then go elsewhere and I'll see an eve ad because, *gasp*, I've been profiled... it's cute and all, but I also don't see the point since I'm already an addict. :S |

I re-activated my account after seeing an advert for EVE on boxing day. I wouldn't be posting it if I hadn't seen that ad :)
So yes, it works very well!

Edited by: Rawr Cristina on 31/01/2009 01:12:06 There was a week or so on The Escapist where the whole page as completely plastered with EVE advertisements. Every single advertisement space and even the start and end of some of the videos, there it was. |

I saw EVE ads everywhere, occasionally. What brought me into the game was one single post, on one web site.
All those other ads that appeared are just noise and fluff. I've learned to ignore ads, to the point that I'll visit a web site about Python or Django, and while I'm pointing out the interesting points to a colleague at work, they'll be getting all flustered about the soft-**** banner ad down the side of the page advertising something like whitehouse.com.
I worry about what my workmates think of me. |

I use Flashblack and NoScript. NoScript has to be configured for every site you visit on a regular basis but it's pretty painless and it swats all those nuisance ads (like the ones that float over the page and won't go away ) that can usually evade most ad blockers.
Static or reasonably animated and behaved banners and sidebar ads I have no problems with. The ones that interfere with the operation of my browser or ones that bounce and jiggle everywhere screaming LOOK AT ME!!! like they're some desperate starving hooker on a streetcorner are the ones I detest.
