Edited by: StinkFinger on 02/08/2004 19:48:20 Reformat your hd.
Reinstall the game.
Update all drivers to the latest versions, except your video card drivers. For those, upgrade to the 2nd or 3rd newest...usually more stable. --

What is this going to accomplish? I have current drivers and I know my install of XP is fine. Its always annoying when people suggest this, it rarely even fixes anything subtle like this. There is a reason why this only happens with EVE on some Radeon cards. I'd quit EVE before I would reformat my HD when my system is working fine. I really don't want to spend a week trying to get everything reinstalled and repatched.

My current PC is a new upgrade from about 4 weeks ago.
Complete fresh installation of winXP Pro with all updates, SP2 included, all drivers are uptodate, no viruses, no adware, no spyware, no bloatware, and that is pretty much it.
I'm beginning to see that ATI Radeons are indeed a problem.
I think I'll throw an email at ATI Support to see what they recommend.

This is very strange becouse of all cpuŠs have the same amount of usage when playing eve. This must be a EVE cpu performance or memory leak

I have about the same setup as Oretes and have run as many as four accounts, windowed, simaten, simatin, simataa...crap, at the same time. Hard drive runs like a dog sometimes and fps is abismal but it's playable. Wouldn't do anything other than mining that way. Stellar Products and Quality Resources ticker: SPQR established 6-03

My kit runs fine...
out of the box:
3.06ghz HT Intel 512mb DDR geforce 4 MX 440 (piece of **** card, dont ever get one) on board sound
upgraded:
1gb ram ATI 9800XT 256mb -dual monitors EVE running windowed in 1792x1344 monitor is one up to get whole window on screen.
My CPU runs between 50%-80% dropping to the 50s when window is in the background up to the 80s when on front.

Edited by: Def Antares on 02/08/2004 22:13:01 what's the problem when a game takes 100% cpu? that's absolutely normal and nothing to worry about. since there is a "game loop" it runs all the time, get's internet packets, sends internet packets, renders the graphics.
when the computer freezes in windowed mode it's most likely because you do something else besides, like surfing. when you swap to an application that is running, but wasnt used for some time windows puts it to the virtual memory, which is on the harddisk, therefore the delay when you switch to that application: it's memory is being read from disk. edit: get more system memory to fix that
my eve runs at 100%, like every other (resource intesnive) game too, windowed or full screen.

You also should check up on the page faults/s option in the performance monitor. You might be having troubles with the virtual memory settings. Even though you got 1.5Gb it might be needing swap space because of some bug or something. ___________________________ Favorite bumpersticker of the month: My head hurts! |

Something must have change while I was away the last 3 weeks - it is impossible to run two accounts at the same time, atm - the last started acc is always extrem lagyy - it was fine before and my PC hasnt change since last time I played with both acc's at the same time. Something is fishy. --------------
