Originally by: CCP Sputnik should you refer to this EVE Online on Amazon.de I have to tell you that this is a outdated box art which was done before the features for the box where even defined.
Sorry but you spend your conspiracy power on a fake.
About the Game Time, I asked around a few weeks back and nothing was decided at this time but I was told that there will be a Dev-Blog about this before the box gets released which will explain everything.
So unfortunately more infos SOON(tm) again.
Ok, well let me ask you a non conspiracy question, assuming you're at liberty to say.
If the retail box really is coming out with special ingame gifts, can we buy the box and apply those gifts to an account already in existence?
And if it is possible, would it be some kind of key code to punch in similar to a PLEX? Taking it a bit further, would it be possible to sell that code ingame?
It would be a great way for a newbie to start with some decent cash. Sell off their gift ship code to a veteran player in exchange for isk.
... got game? |

I'm not worried much about a shuttle with a bigger hold, but offering special items for real life money leads towards a slippery slope. There's a ton of MMORGs out there already that are "free to play" but to really use them you need to buy virtual items for your character with real money. As in "Walking skill? Sure, $20! Looking around skill? Just $25 on our web site! A sword? Cannot be found in game, but you can buy any number for $45!".
So right now you get a special shuttle alongside the subscription for your money. No big deal. But what if CCP sees that it worked really well and decides to put a special 50km 20 pts Warp Disruptor into the next box? A State Issue Raven? A DDD that can be mounted onto a cruiser hull? An insta-locking battleship hull? And to ensure that only the "worthy" people (iow, those who paid cash) get the items they can not be transferred in any way.
Selling EVE items for real money might lead to a situation where you are REQUIRED to spend real life money to be able to compete. So far CCP has avoided that, actually fought against that as much as possible, but this could be a reversal of that course. THAT's what worries me here. Lately CCP has made several moves that seem to solely focus on increasing revenue, and this might be the start of a new business model.
Of course, everything said here needs to be taken with a ladle of salt and with a tinfoil hat on. |

This is totally what is going to happen. This poster is not freaking out over an incredibly ****ty item given to noobs at all. The sky is indeed falling and EVE is already dead. --

I never mentioned Guild Wars - basically I only know it exists and that's all. There's a lot of MMORGs out (mainly with some anime theme) that do not require you to pay anything to play (DL client, create account, play), but where you have to buy magic gear from the publisher for real money. The games are balanced so you can do some testing and wetting of your feet using the free content, but after some time you'll run into problems that can only be solved by gear you need to buy.
Basically the publisher is not charging for the game time itself but for the content and is financing his expenses that way - applied to EVE it would mean no monthly rates, but all T2 and faction modules need to be bought for RL currency from CCP.

well honestly I don't believe those are real. Infact I think all of this is silly and stupid to talk about after a dev reply :P
VIP pas is for factional warfare. That's great. In fact I hope ALL new players can get into factional warfare. In fact I wish it was forced once your trail was over.
Double rewards? Yeah that would be bull****. But no one is bring that up and I'm not defending it.

Appliable to both new and existing accounts it seems. Will be a nice little perk indeed for an existing player. Nice new unique ship and 2 months game time they can sell for about 700 mil to fund the instant access faction war that hopefully gets some loving for m10. Sounds like win to me.

Who wants to bet that the "insider's guide", will be one of those terrible black and white abbreviated strategy guides Prima puts out?
I have to lol at all the people freaking out over FW access and a tricked out shuttle though.

Are you guys sure that isn't some old box art from the Faction Warfare expansion that also gave us the apotheosis? The lengths people will go because someone said something on the internet and had "proof" with an undated picture.
God you guys fail at speculation. (Unless you didn't in which case you are fine... for now) |

Well if they included a 60 day GTC in the box then expect the prices of GTC's to fall as current players will be buying the boxed version just for GTC's which will be cheaper than the ones sold from the online retailers.
So I think the boxed version will sell tons for months to come but the majority of buyers will be the current playerbase getting their hands on GTC's.
Oh and in a few months or so when the retail price has been reduced to budget expect a landslide of GTC prices. |

I'd like to point out, a few years back there used to be things called Graduation certificates, that if you actually completed the tutorial all noobs got. Now these allowed you to do a free ISM for what ever faction you did the tutorial for. Which if are still around today are pretty much instant access to FW, if CCP is introducing instant access to FW it's just gunna be reintroducing Graduation Certificates which were/are a game mechanic. |

Hopefully they'll be able to be contracted/traded like other ingame items and you'll be able to buy them from other players like other unique ships (apotheosis etc.). That way people who enjoy collecting ships but don't want/can't pay for the retail box can obtain one. |
