Today BIG is celebrating it's 2 year anniversary.
2 *years* 
And what a 2 years it has been.
From a (not so) humble 1 man corp to the medium/large sized corp we are today - It's been quite the ride.
I still remember the pride of being the first corp to put a Thorax on the open market in Sinq Laison (it sold for 14.999.297 ISK back then  ) (I also remember going 29 jumps to get the BPo and returning back without it  ), the purchase of our first Battleship BPo (now that was a day!), joining the Fountain Alliance (never regretted it one second), getting the coveted Miner II BPo (when those still sold for some good ISK) and many many other events small and large.
And lets not forget the BIG Lottery and The BIG Deal
Still no BIG Casino I'm afraid  - Probably *the* project I most want to get of the ground as well (maybe one day, CCP willing....)
All things that have molded BIG into the corp it is today.
Actually - One thing that deserves mention above everything else are the BIGuns.
Whom without there would be no BIG.
My thanks goes out to all the BIGuns, both past and present, who's hard 'work' and mature and professional disposition have made the past 2 years a blast.
Never where there a friendlier bunch who all subscribe to two simple rules
1 : RL always comes first
2 : Have FUN!
Thats the core of beeing a BIGun, and why it's always been a pleasure playing the game.
I'd also like to use the opportunity to tip my hat at all the friends BIG has made all over the EVE cluster. Interacting with other corporations in the world of EVE is part of the experience, and there could be volumes written about all the dealings BIG has had with other corps.
Most of which have been pleasent  - Getting listed on the top 10 list of 'most liked' corps in EVE was another high point in BIGs history that will not be forgotten.
With Shiva around the corner I'm sure the next year will be equally interesting, and bring new challenges to be overcome and exploited (not *that* kind of exploit) to ensure that BIG continues to be succesfull in EVE.

Just a personal thanks from me to Tornsoul.
I remember back 2 years ago. The game was pretty much still in planning and the loyal crowd didnt really have any idea how the release product would come out.
There was this discussion about corporation wars and stations sieges. We had some pretty good ideas back then. Something involving siege platforms that had to be towed in and anchored for station attacks. Attacking fleet would then have to defend their siege weapons from the onslaught of the defenders....
Anyways getting sidetracked :)
In the discussion back then I noticed a person (Tornsoul). He seemed to have the right attitude toward the pvp aspect of the game and a really good understanding of the diplomatic aspects. I must admit I didnt like the name "BIG" at first. But I liked the guy (or girl *humpf*). I decided that I could live with being a BIG'un (Married with Children reference) and boy did I make the right choice.
Thank you Tornsoul for 2 great years and thanks to all the other BIG'uns that have stayed true for so long. Diehard and loyal people are the backbone of any community. Lets hope we get another 2 good years before this thing goes E&B on us :)
ALSO
I have to send out a thanks to the entire community. 2 years ago we were ALWAYS debating with the horrid carebears. They basically tried *really* hard to sway ccp from the path they took with the game. Arguments like
-"no pvp online game will ever get enough subscribers".
-"Griefers will rule".
-"Dont tell me you think it's fun to lose something you worked 2 weeks to achieve"
-"Ships have to be insured 100%...for free!"
Was flying about.
This reminds me that I am i fact really grateful that there are enough people out there who think like I do and have the same idea of fun.
-we dont want easy games.
-we dont want guaranteed success
-we have played the ai for years and have come to the conclusion that it will NEVER be sufficient challenge.
So to all our friends and enemies in Eve (and even to CCP): thx for being here and proving games like this can work.

I'm glade to see such a corp make it's 2 year anniversary. I can remember waaaay back in the day when me and Tornsoul would have conversations about how Eve might turn out, our plans/goals for our corps.

I'm glade to see such a corp make it's 2 year anniversary. I can remember waaaay back in the day when me and Tornsoul would have conversations about how Eve might turn out, our plans/goals for our corps.

We'd been chaining enough spawns down in Fountain for awhile for everyone to be given a Basic Damage Control Unit. I still had one from when I won an event last year sometime, so I refined this one and built a heavy missile with the trit I got. I haven't used it yet, though, so if you want I can put it on the market for you...

Ahhh memoriesà..
I signed up for the EVE beta on the 20th of febuary 2002 after having become aware of the game in late 2001. In 2001 I played Jumpgate for a few months, but it failed to captivate me as I wanted more depth and interaction with other players.
Then in late 2001 I got the opportunity to be part of the beta 5 phase I think and I was instantly hooked. The graphics were stunning and the ideas about a single server for everyone where the economy would player driven was just what I had always envisioned a great game would entail.
I had played a LP MUD called Moral Decay which had a player driven economy where you collected the corpses and loot of the npcÆs you killed. Corpses were sold to a player owned processorplant and rubbish loot were sold to a player owned smelter plant. The owners of these plants got raw alcohol and various metals. The alcohol were bought by owners of distilleries to be destilled into drinkable potions sold to owners of bars who then sold them to players which used them to regain theor strength after coming back from the dungeons. The metals from the smelters were sold to weapon- and armorsmiths who used them to make new weapons and armor to sell to players.
It was a fantastic system and we had some great tradewars. As the game allowed for PvP the various factions took turns trying to get control of various segments of the industry apparatus to increase their profits, by simply going on rampages trying to eliminate the competition .
The possibility of having tradewars is something I miss in EVE. People are too anonymous and orders are stacked beneath eachother on the market so itÆs quite difficult to get a clear view of who your competitors are, which is too bad. But enough about the current situation in EVE.
At the end of January 2002 one of my friends (Slambert) told me about a corporation called ôBIGö which he had been studying and felt had the "right stuff" to make it in a competitive hardcore game which werenÆt forgiving about mistakes made by you. I read the BIG mission statement and corporate ethos and felt that it had the mindset which fitted my playing style. I got signed up for an interview with TornSoul. The interview took place Friday the 31th of January 2002 and after an hour or so of interviewing (we discussed the game Stars! among other things) I got the BIGun badge and were enrolled.
As the game went gold on the 6th of may 2002 I remember a frantic period in the week that followed to get the game in Denmark were I live as the distribution just wasnÆt as complete as one could have whished, but I got online on the 14th and proceeded to Fricoure to meet up with the rest of the BIGuns I knew from Beta and who had gotten in-game at the time. Soon we in full motion and later during that year I made enough noise standing on a soapbox making suggestions about how we could improve the infrastructure of our corp, that I got promoted to President of Administration.
Well enough stories from the good old days. Happy birthday BIG and may you get another fruitful year.
ItÆs been a blast these last few years and I can hardly wait to see what lies in store for us and EVE in general with the release of the Shiva expansion.
