Let's consider this. This could actually an excellent thing for eve, provided they don't restore BoB (which I don't think they will or even can).
With the power vacuum in Delve, Pandemic Legion, Northern Coalition, Goons, maybe Imperial Republic of the North are all going to make a move on that wonderfully empty and ripe for the taking Blood Raider territory. What is going to result is a great deal of dramatic and exciting PVP and coalitions and alliances will be formed, broken, territory will move back and forth between the hands of various alliances and it will be pretty exciting for them. This will also get those large alliances involved in something, rather than boredly picking on smaller alliance,s because they have nothing better to do, because their position in EVE has become stagnant. In turn, these smaller alliances will have to grow and make a name for themselves, and perhaps even make a move against those larger alliances, leading to more intrigue and fun for all. So rather than waggling your e-peens at each other and saying "Oh CCP will do this, CCP will do that" and all of the other smack and idiocy going on on COAD right now, let's wait for CCP to actually post an OFFICIAL response and try to curb the hearsay?

What makes eve tick is the players and the shared things they can build together. BoB lost their alliance (more important of a shared object than anything else) to a rage-quitting director, not to any kind of battle. Its NOT the kind of experience that will make anyone stay in or start in Eve, because it's kind of a dumb weak ending to something with so much energy put into it.
In the end this will weaken Eve because we will lose players over it. Nobody joins the game because they think it will be epic to have their alliance disbanded by a spy. Screw that they will play something else. We will lose BoB players for sure, we will probably lose others, and I don't see it bringing anyone new to the game like an epic battle over delve would.

funny how such huge intimidating things can end quite anticlimactically... Hm, such as it should be.
BoB was a static, boring force in EvE. It will be good to have a fresh new fight for space again.

imo the only real effect of this is goon morale soaring to an annoyingly new high
bob will have to retreat from the south for a while, the GBC will have to stop..... well, losing ships to PL posgunners in aridia for while ( :P ) but in the end there will still be a crapload of ppl in delve, and plenty of exe/pet sov, so any half competent alliance that think they can now 'take a slice of delve' will fail hard.

do you have proof it was a hack ? information so far is that a BoB director (Haargoth Agamar) simply used his roles to disband alliance. this appears to be in-game mechanics not a hack.
its not even metagaming. its simply the harsh environment of EvE. one toon switched sides and poof, buh bye.

I can "barely" understand spying and corp theft being a vaild tactic but this... this is just horrid. I wouldn't wish what has happened today on anyone.
The fact that the Goons did such an act that no only affects a corp but the entire EVE overnight just tells you more about what the Goons are about.
Also, if CCP does not react, which I suspect they won't its is going to effect EVE long term for a long long time. It may even blow out CCP's recent advances in the money / membership department. Imagine all the time they have been spending tring to get new players into EVE only have have twice as many leave the game forever in a 2 week span. Lets see if they will be able to have enough capital to keep the servers online. Considering CCP are based in Iceland where they are IRL having serious financial issues, a sudden revenue drop can have untold consequences.
So in a nutshell I hope CCP does something about this. But if they don't they might be putting their entire company at risk over a concept that should have been fixed years ago. But then again. Look at the recent Moon Mining scam..
Eitherway, its a pretty crappy way to even the score.
For those who think this will open up the space lanes to smaller entities.. Think again.. But if you need proof.. Just take a look at the drone regions. Guess it is time for the NC, PL, Goon, RA and alt alliances, power blocs to declare war on each other to keep it interesting. But I suspect they won't.. But you never know what the future holds.. But I feel its going to be a bleak year.

BoB were using spies to gain advantage all the time, is it's an exploit they sould have been banned long ago They'll just have to reform the alliance and actually fight for Delve instead of turtling up behind cynojammers and titans. If BoB can somehow keep from tearing themselves apart, reform under a new name, and hold their space without the use of cyno jammers for a little over a month then we'll re-evaluate how "great" BoB is/was.
Trying to take a more neutral look at this, the biggest effect this has on BoB is they dont have Cyno jammers. All of their corps are still there, their posses are still there. They still have the ub3r sh*t ton of titans they had before their name ceased to exist. If they are as tight knit as they made themselves out to be, they will re-unite under another name and continue to defend their space without jammers. The test is whether or not they are stable enough after this to actually pull that off. |

Well, think about this: If CCP changes now the disbanding of an alliance (like a vote is needed first), they would admit that that what happened was not ok. So, only right moves from CCP would be either doing nothing or doing a rollback and implementing such a feature.
But so far i know CCP, they just **** up completely and give no official statement and just implenet such a feature in one of the upcoming patches.
For my self, i can't believe that anyone really like the idea, that it is possible and allowed for a single person to ruin the fun in a game for hundreds of players. |

doubt anyone will leave the game due to this, well maybe a few "bobbers" who feel mistreated, i call it well played by goons, im not a big bob fan, or fan of any alliance really, but as long as they did it the way it seem, then i can only call it well played, they used roles to damage their opponent, sure its a different aproach, but as long as its withing game mechanics, all bob can do now is either crumble or rise again under a new name. And im sure CCP will look at the ways you disband stuff now, but since it havent been an issue before, they havent really had the option to solve it Over and out |

I agree that if BoB really was so uber, they'd get their **** together and reform, fighting again for their alleged status. Foundati0n had a similar problem only 2 weeks ago. Admitted, we own a fraction of BoB's assets. But after many curses on the head of the director in question we reunited within 24h and only some standings confusion remains. We will see what they do. Could be chance to shake up an overly complacent EVE behemoth whose skills at the game were lacking in the last months anyway.
More interesting is what -A- will do now. I'd assume that TAFKAB will hury back to Delve and leave Evil Thug, teeth and all, with a vulnerable northern flank. And with the goon morale at an all time high this could become quiete exciting. |

It won't be "sh*t" without BoB. AAA has proved that the game is quite healthy and people's ego will dissolve positive standings quite easily. Goonswarm was actually an enemy of Razor and MM some time ago. But the fact remains that BoB has been a paper tiger and got thrown out of the North by the scruff of their neck. Now they're crying in their IRC that 'Cynojammers are broken" and "Titan ruin the game for everyone" which is a complete parody of themselves in Delve. Nobody wanted to bother taking Delve since BoB has indirectly abused the pos warfare system by dropping as many stations as they possibly could, given the rate it was progressing Delve would be more station dense than some lowsec regions.
Given how lackluster they've been this could be the kick in the rear coax the new membership into a uniform body instead of the rabble they are now.

IMO it's just flawed mechanic that one person (even the CEO of executor alliance, even Molle shouldn't be able to do that in 5 minutes) can shut down an entire alliance that easily...

The one thing I think will happen for sure out of this is that CCP will change the mechanics so that no single person within a corp can do something like this. Generally in the past CCP has shown itself to be more reactive than proactive so usually it takes something to happen before they fix it.
Bob disband though this? No can't see it happening at all, as far as I know the applications are already in for the new alliance so depending on when they go through I would expect to see a massive gain in sov in the area either tomorrow or Saturday. True there will be no jammers or jump bridges but Bob have enough titans to overcome the latter (at least when it matters)

If you'd seen the cap fleet that headed back to Delve earlier on this evening I think you'd rethink that statement.
Im not saying i know whats going on down there. Im saying this is a loss on BOB's end, not a victory by the goons. Their involvement was minimal at best. Will they capitalize on that? Sure, will the rest of eve that hates bob do that? Yes.
EVE is like the "Fisherman's Friend" of MMOs. If it's too hard, you are too weak. |

BoB wasn't the same BoB it had been. Nothing lasts forever. Not even Goons will last forever.
It kind of sucks that BoB ended this way rather than in the conflagration of a huge war, but then again, that level of warfare is almost impossible after a certain point. It always was a battle of attrition between the two huge entities. The winner was always going to be the one who could get inside and cut from within. It is still shocking to see, though.
I agree this could be very good for EVE. It will allow for a change in the guard. I highly doubt Goons et al are going to run over the sov-less space, not with everyone else and their mother also foaming at the mouth for it. Add to this further polarity in the opinions of Goons and their friends and there is potential for an even stronger power bloc to some day rise from the ashes of BoB.
I also agree this could be very bad for EVE, because it clearly exposes a fatal flaw in the very systems that bring people together to begin with. This is a game mechanic, and it means it could just as easily happen to Goonswarm tomorrow. Unlikely, but possible. If this is working as intended, CCP needs to take a hard look at the true cost of this debacle. Whether you love BoB or hate BoB, hundreds of real people could really lose interest in a hobby they really previously enjoyed. There are intangible costs associated with this.
I think CCP will let things stand as they are, but they will make significant adjustments to prevent this from happening again. I think the war over Delve will be agonizing for some and a wild ride for everyone else.
And while the Goons claim victory over this, they still have yet to claim the spoils.. entire constellations worth of spoils... and that is not done with one click of a button. Many clicks will be needed. And not just the Goons will be clicking. |

This is why EVE is the best MMO in the known universe... This epic act completely re-invents the game.
So props to GOONS for releasing this (player driven) expansion... just waiting for the patch notes! :)

This would be very unfair to the ex-BoB members. If what happened was not an intended *feature* then CCP should rollback. If it was, then they should leave it be in order to let others use this terrible *feature* as a weapon next time against Goon for eg. A mixed solution wont be fair, 'cause not CCP are those who are affected by the consequences of this 'flaw' in the system but the members of BoB.

Edited by: Hera Vertigo on 05/02/2009 21:43:47 Pherhaps there may be some directors in other allaiances like GoonSwarm or whatever that will decide to make a statement on how crappy this "feature" in the game is and screw over their members of their allaiance. I wonder how many times it will take for something to happen.

That doesn't really make sense, that like saying if nanos weren't intended they should stay the same or everyone that ever lost a ship to a nano ship should get there stuff back.
Really this is a rather flawed game mechanic and I don't really care if CCP restore Band Of Brothers Alliance or not as long as this is fixed.

Originally by: Joachim LeHigh Let's consider this.
So, let's see... There are two sides in a war. One side is suddenly removed from battle, leaving the other side to dominate everything.
Yeah, I see your logic. One douche to rule them all.

From what I hear Goons had nothing to do with BOB disbanding. BOB was busted for using a POS Exploit. CCP disbanded BOB.
Would not be the 1st time they did something to this effect. CCP banned other alliances for the same exploit.

I think, ultimately, this will hurt the game. Hundreds of people put time into building and maintaining the alliance, only to have to all ****ed away by one person. EVE is a game, after all. It's meant to be fun. When you allow the fun to be removed for hundreds by one person, you fail your community. Just my two cents... -------- sig here |
