I read a small article in pc gamer a few months back that eve 2 is in the pipeline, can anyone confirm this? or is just a rumour?

Its planned to launch Q1 next year.
Those who Beta tested EVE, and proved useful, have already been invited to Alpha test EVE-II The third genesis. So far there isn't much in it. But the in-station activites (you can walk around) looks pretty cool. You gonna get more opportunities to just "hang around". There is a bar and all sorts of things. (Those female players looks pretty hot walking around  ). Planets and stations are also going to contain worlds that you can explore. So those who are not in to just spacecombat can develop their characters fightingskills instead.
They want to combine a sort of FPS play with the large scale universe spacetravel.
I'm always gonna be a spacejockey myself but I guess its gonna bring a lot more players this way. Stuff I heard that will be doable is boarding peoples ship and attack with marines and ****. And you friends are the marines! cool! (But that just on the drawboard so far.)
Dunno how it will evolve.
So far people are just trying the FPS fighting and all the emote's your character can do. Smacktalking has evolved pretty much now when you see your opponent to give you the finger or moon you, lol. Though.. except for the fighting it looks more like a dating service to me the way ppl hang around in the bars talking trash, drinking Quafe UltraЦ and emoting makeouts with the hottest female avatars. (Some good girl-on-girl action is always enjoyable to watch too let me tell you )

No, EVE 2 is not planned afaik. Obviously there are probably people at CCP who plans far ahead, and they might be thinking about making an EVE 2 some day, but I don't think anyone is working on that kind of project at all.

A vast black hole appears in Yulai, and sucks all the ships, planets and people into an eerie parallel universe consisting of one huge planet, populated by trolss, dragons and adolescents with far too much time on their hands.
All your characters memories are erased, and you must immediately kill 100,000,000 lesser goblin minions with a blunt rusty knife. Sometime between commencing this slaughter, and the onset of the next ice-age, you will be qualified to wield a sharp rusty knife...
Or did someone do that already? |

As with Everquest 2, EVE 2 can have your old charactor transfered to the new game i'm sure when the day comes.

Well, not really. I'd say that theres about 3-4 expansions left of ideas that we want to do with EVE.
