Dance, Trance, House, wait... what?
Is this really the kind of music people listen to when playing EVE? I tuned into EVE radio for the first time a few days ago to follow the coverage of the whole BOB - Goonswarm situation. Since then I've tuned in at random times more out of curiosity than anything else, and everytime I have its been, well... see above. Im not sure about everyone else but I never pictured "Dance" to go with EVE... at all Its just not the right kind of music for me, its annoying and distracting while playing. Anyway im wondering what do you all think, as you can probably tell im not a big fan of "Dance", although im all for it if im at a Rave or something... where it belongs. Ultimatly the point of this hastily written post is to find out... What music would you consider to be EVE's "native" music? (By which I mean what music do you "choose" to listen to whilst playing?) |

if you were for eve-radio to only play music that fit the eve atmosphere, they could propably only play downtempo electro all day. not sure if that'd be very exciting. |

I used to listen to EvE Radio all the time - While playing and at work - all the time. I just got tired of this one chic DJ who had the most annoying accent and was just generally loud. No thanks
Then top it off with nothing but trance and listening to people have a drunken party while listening to trance in some small apartment. Just not for me.
Most of the American/Canadian DJs were good.
But to answer your question about which music - Ever since day 1 back in 04 for me I love putting in Megadeth and belt ratting in a T1 Rifter. Just alot of fun. |

Edited by: Bethulsunamen on 10/02/2009 14:07:47 Radio always suck, since they play what they want to play, not what YOU want to hear. Just use winamp ffs However, as for EVE's "native" music, its the same music the ingame jukebox contains. Doesnt get more EVE than that. Also possibly the Solaris soundtrack ;) |

Personally I've never been a huge music fan overall. I can listen to anything, but never been excited about it.
I first tuned in because I loved the chat and banter of the Dawney&Whitey, FunkyBacon and JusJack shows, but now I keep it running all the time cause most of them play stuff I've come to enjoy.
Try to catch LaVista if you want some heavy stuff. Though if you have very narrow music taste, you're probably better off making your own playlist as it kind of opposes the whole point of radio.

There are serveral stations dedicated to the Eve universe, one of which is mentioned above by the OP, and one is New Eden Radio. Both stations will play similar content in the way of Rock, metal, Dance, house ect... In the end it is up to you to decide which to listen to.
As a DJ for New Eden Radio all I can say for Eve type music, I would suggest you give my show a try. I'm on Saturdays at 0400 evetime, and I play Chillout/Ambient/Downtempo, which really fits Eve quite well. Also we did Tournament Coverage as well as 11hrs of the Bob/Goon coverage live from Delve.

If you listen to EVE radio all day you should probably expect it be rather boring after a while.

Agreed,
Quote: Below the Astroids, and the brilliant remix Above the Astroids, is the very heart and soul of EVE's "native" music.
Not heard it but will check it out.

That would be pointless, and would render EVE Radio pointless too. This is not a complaint im simply trying to get some feedback going, but thanks for posting I guess. |

You've probably heard "Below" without knowing it, because it's part of the ingame background music. "Above" is available for free at Alienhand's site here. |

Depends on what time you are listening. US TZ generally has MUCH MUCH more variety then the Euro counterparts. They like Techno, trance, house way too much. It's scary lol. |

Im in the UK, but I listen to the radio throughout the day while im at work, hoping to keep up with latest EVE related news, unfortunatly this proves to be difficult since at the moment it seems to be 95 percent thumping bass and 5 percent the DJ telling us what the song was called. |

I was recruited as a DJ for EVE-Radio just after the new year. I play mainly heavy music, but there's a few trance-ish tunes I like to play once in a while.
But as it was pointed out, I'm a great fan of a bit harder music. If you tune into my show, chances are that you will be listening to Metallica, System of a Down, Rammstein, Slipknot, Rage Against, Rage Against the Machine, HIM, Linkin Park and other in that genre.
Of course, if there's a tune you want to hear, let the DJ know. It can be a daunting task to play music for 1-2 hours ish and not knowing what people are in the mood for. I'll always play a tune if I have it, as long as it's not Rick astley |

I can't tell if you are being serious or not. I find that people who say that they like the rock genre quite like those bands. Thus, I throw them together.

I didnt mean anything negative by that, its just in my experience talking Genre with a DJ is usually a nightmare in itself. Its nice to see a DJ that doesnt conform to the Genre's so strictly a refreshing change. |

While i do think you're merely trolling Xan Shephard and this should be posted on EVE-radio forums not here.
It is wholly dependent on what DJ and what time you're listenning in.
There are other radio stations apart from ER also, if the DJ on station isnt your thing, maybe switch to another one.
Actual metal music i find is probably the least suited to eve, whereas Classical/opera fits it so well.

This is the only constructive thing in your post, and therefore the only part that interests this forum thread, you can cut the rest out thanks
Also thanks for your oppinion... Im not a fan of Opera/Classical although I can see how it would go well in EVE |

I would tend to agree, but then I am baised by my choice of music also. (Chillout/Ambient)
But as stated, there are multiple stations, as well as your own music, there is enough choice out there for you to find something that suits your taste. Hijak Saturdays 0400 - 0700 New Eden Radio |
