Eh, gate camps are bad news for the unprepared/unwise, sure as hell. But, a lot of times it looks far worse than it actually is, particularly at larger camps.
You can be sure at least half of everyone there is probably a horrible km ho with no tank, mass Sensor Boosters and damage mods and with things like a Gatling Rail in that last highslot and whatnot.

gatecamps can be boring and frustrating but no matter how you look at it, they are core operation to defend space. They themselves are self-nerfing by being boring, however you can't escape they're functionality.
I dislike gate camping, I dislike having to bust through gate camps, however I recognize their value. (on occasion you can get decent fights from them too )
If you do not, you're naive. |

The intent was to point out how it's not feasible to eliminate the biggest obstacle to more players getting into losec.
Ok. But auto-attack after five minutes? Do you know how many AP peeps who go afk are going to get blown up on the first day alone? Bad idea.
not really....just two or more of the same corp or alliance hanging around, unless there are loads of autopilot fleets that I haven't seen
EDIT....those involved in factional or concord sanctioned wars are exempt |

mm tasty thread.
I'll bite though. Gates need to spawn their faction's ships as the guns engage for longer. this means that gate camps either break up due to not being able to take the guns and the faction rats or try to take out as many faction rats as possible and loot/salvage for good loot. Have the spawns escalate so that eventually You have to bug out, as well as the fact that it will be a little safe for people passing through the area for a short time.

Gatecamps are a necessity. Dictors offer an alternative, although they're less viable for catching everything. |

Gatecamps aren't the problem, and never were. Barring the bombin' mom in Rancer and other kill-everything-for-da-lulz outfits, lowsec camps are a tool of absolute last resort when nothing else is going down near your gang. Camping is extremely boring and tedious, and frankly not much if any more fun than being on the receiving end of it.
So if you want to 'fix gatecamps', suggest more stuff to do in lowsec to bring people out there. Then the action naturally goes back to the moons and belts like it was in the early years instead of everyone clustering in the one part of lowsec where you occasionally see a non-allied player. _________________ [IMAGE REMOVED] -- aka Cpt Bogus -- Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

Gatecamps shouldn't be eliminated, they should be brought into the game design.
Blockades like in that other.. spacey... game, I-WAr or something, where they put a spiderlock on a wormhole. Mines, traps, gatebusters etc.
They need to bring more then "warp disruptor" and "warp disruptor disruptor" into the game.

Edited by: Tippia on 11/02/2009 09:14:23 How to fix gatecamps:
1. Give us new useful interdiction and anti-logistics mechanics. 2. Allow area weapons in low-sec.
Before #1 is fixed, gatecamps get to stay. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Gatecamps are a valuable source of income for pirates.
Ships you catch in missions or ratting in belts hardly yield any considerable profit. It's the freighter filled with POS modules that pays your bills.
If losec is too unforgiving I'd suggest staying in hisec.

Wait wtf what? What sense would this make? Gatecamps are a legitimate playing style. (albeit boring, I admit) Adapt?
/me hates camps. I prefer frigate pvp. ----- Why doesn't anyone ever read the forums before posting?

Why would we want to get rid of gatecamps?
Though I think they're the single most boring form of PvP, they are 100% legitimate and force people to pay attention to what they are doing. I think they're a valuable learning tool and a lot of players actually enjoy them.
I think the penalty for suicide-camping is still disproportionate, but that's another discussion.

Originally by: Arthur Frayn Give gate guns(not station guns) dps comparable to concord. Make them auto-attack any player who sits on a gate for longer than five minutes. Add a popup message giving players fair warning after three minutes, then count down until the guns fire.
Doesn't affect scan probes or station camping, warfare or any other kind of PVP.
if this was brought in wich it will never be there would be draw back etc auto pilot

1. Jumping through a gate transports the player to a random location in the target system.
2. Jumping in a fleet transports the fleet, en masse, to a random location in the target system.
3. Gate Power Up limits activation to once every 5 seconds between activations.
4. Due to instability, caused by the gate itself, warp drives cannot function within a 15km radius of any gate and any ship approaching a gate, at warp, drops out of warp immediately, similar to the current bubble effect.
5. Large station generated warp bubbles, again with a 15km radius, are placed at all stations as a safety feature, to keep yahoos from coming in too hot and crashing into the station itself.
Fixed.

How about you grow a pair and treat EVE as a game and work out how to get into lowsec without being podded - many pilots have....
