( You often see mission runners complaining about trade good rewards. As a dedicated trader/hauler character, I gain nearly all of my income from buy orders and region jumping tryin to find trade goods to buy to sell on for a profit from agent runners. After afew months watching the markets, what I was wondering, was how do agent runners look the the issue of dealing with trade goods?
Do you hoard them and put them up in one go once a month?
Do you trash them?
Do you look around for a price and sell them yourself?
Do you put them on the market as you get them at the same price?
Do you try and undercut the lowest price in station/region by a small amount?
As a trader, I look first at the amount being offered and then at the distance from the highway system. I won't, for example, make a run of 5 jumps for 5000 units which are at slightly lower than NPC, but I would make such a run for 2000 units which are 50% of the NPC price. I usually take ~100 isk/m3 or 50% of base value as a minimum when cold-buying from the market otherwise it's not worth my while.
I'll often see 300 units at 30% of base cost 5 jumps from the highway, but it's not worth it. I could make more buying and running NPC goods toan NPC station for all the profit it's worth. Thing is, I don't know if there is a stack of 5000 units at 32% of base cost under that tiny stack . . . .
Another question, is do agent runners, if they *do* put their trade goods up on the market do they check them to see if they're being undercut? )

Hoarding them for now.... Someday I might do something with them... or CCP might actually give them purpose, and I will be really good then....

I ran pick-up trades for months prior to Castor so I have a fairly good idea of what prices should be and who buys what.
Consequently, I cut out the middle-man: YOU
And sell the goods myself.

Gee....
If I were to, sort of, "KNOW" what you might be looking for I'd be more than happy to forward them your way....as long as the buy price was better than "insulting".
Sometimes I do the "quick sell", sometimes I throw 'em on the market if the price isn't stupid within a couple of jumps of where I am. I'm not looking to make a killing - simply a fair sale.
When the prices look stupidly low......I just recycle.

Edited by: Sammira on 05/08/2004 20:51:33 ( Yeah, i know alot of agent runners sell their own goods. hell, my main does ... well, did. Personally, after a while I found it more profitable just to do the missions and put the stuff on the market. Depends on the goods and player, I guess.
There's alot of stuff out there, trade good wise (excluding the ammo/modules which are often best just refined and I'm curious about how other players deal with it and how many other salesman-type traders there are out there.
Oh and it's middle-woman if you don't mind. )

Edited by: Daolin on 05/08/2004 22:42:53 If one of my regular mission destinations buys the trade goods that I get as reward, I sell them myself.
Otherwise I wait until I have a nice batch (about 10,000 pieces usually) then put up a sell order 25-50% below market average. Usually sells within a week.
From the viewpoint of the agent runner, it would be nice if the player traders would set up buy orders (either region-wide or at highway stations) for decent prices. Usually you only have some region-wide orders for ridiculously low amounts, and the scattered NPC buy orders.

I let them build up until I can be bothered to haul them. Today I sold a couple of haulers worth for around 15mill.

Edited by: PaulLRyan on 06/08/2004 06:39:23 to be honest they gather dust in my hanger. I try quick sell but as with most things you get that warning that you are about to sell something for 0.000000001 isk against an average of something in the hundreds so they just sit there.
I have not done the maths but I'm sure you could make a profit puting up buy orders that were reasonable.
There are two things about the market that really annoy me. Buy orders for a price that nobody will accept and buy orders for an amount in the millions which seems to stop you selling your stuff to anyone else, even at a lower price.

( Yeah, there are alot of these catch-the-unwary region wide buy orders at 0.01 isk/unit. About the widest order I would ever consider doing is constellation. Anything wider and I'd need a corp of my own to gather the stuff up to sell unless I enjoyed leaving stuff gatheirng dust until it made a pile large enough to collect.
As a trader I set-up select buy orders at station or system wide for specific goods I know i have a market for. To be honest, I hadnt thought of setting up a "buy-hub" for most goods as I expected most agent runners who will haul their goods would just haul em to an NPC for a better price. )

I guess it depends what you wanna do in the game. I wanna blow stuff up and I'm not gonna spend ages moving things about. If I can get a reasonable price where I get them then I'm happy to sell em on and let the other guy profit by moving them. I refuse to give them away and would rather just trash em than sell at sill prices.
When I first started and really needed isk I noticed that my agent was giving out shuttles and was located in a station with a reprocessing plant. There wer lots of buy orders up for shuttles at 1 isk and other stupidly low numbers. I just put up a but order for 1000 isk and reprocessed all I got and sold the trit. Made some money that way by not being too gready. I also mae a huge mistake one day and put up a system wide buy order by accident. It took months to shift all the shuttles not at a station that could reprocess them

That's what the "min. volume" field in the buy order is for You can make buy orders in a way that will give you at least a hauler full of stuff in any particular station.

My problem as agent runner is that a) for most trade goods, the stations who buy them are both off my normal courier routes, and off highway, and b) the amount of stuff a particular NPC station buys at a time is usually less than what I would bother hauling.
I know I could make some profit hauling the trade good rewards around myself, but I make more isk/hour if I simply leave them in my hangar and continue to do courier missions.

I tried it for a while and got very little sales using it, so I went back to the 1 unit purchases. Possibly I was too hasty. Yes, I could set up a region wide buy order at 1 million units at 50% cost with a minimum order of say, 3000m3 worth. Thing is, how often would that get filled and would it get utilised? Is worth looking into certainly on a trial basis again. )
