I've got a Hulk now, and I'm using it, but it occured to me that one use it can be put to is AFK-drone mining. I've pimped the cargo bay to a bit over 17k m3, and it can field 5 T2 mining drones, and drones have a much longer range than the strip miners I use, so I could warp to a belt, select five juicy asteroids, and go AFK.
But are there any ships that are better at it? Specifically some kind of drone ship that can be pimped to a large cargo bay, and has a 25 m3 drone bay, and gets a bonus to mining drone yield?
Or just a ship that has 25 m3 bay and can get a larger cargo bay than a Hulk?
I'll be doing most of my mining actively, but I think a little extra income from AFK-mining could be nice, and as far as I now it isn't in violation of the EULA.

Doh! And I tought you were talking about shooting drones out in 0.0 for their alloys, for what I would have suggested Paladin.
Anyway - afk mining with T2 drones is not a good idea, as NPC's go for mining drones first usually, thus you would need to replace those drones rather frequently.

I don't think AFK mining with drones will work. Because i don't think they will move on to another roid after finishing the first one |

The Orca I believe would be superior for AFK drone mining, and if you have a Hulk, you already have a good chunk of the skills. Bigger cargohold, I believe, and it can field the 5 drones.
Now, would I use a 500M+ ISK ship for that pittance that 5 mining drones could bring in? That's a better question :)
Oh, also, in .8 or above systems, no rats. Right? So just make sure you mine there, or else...Yep. Your mining drones go pop fast.
If you truly, truly want to do this, I'd suggest checking out the ISK yield that 5 mining drones bring in, compared to the ISK yield of AFK mining Ice, as both require zero attention, other then docking to unload periodically. Iuno which is superior, but my money is on ice.

But by all means... if you want to load up the hold of the Hulk, use the Strip Miners.
And if you are off for a day and want to mine afk... use an Orca, get 5 t2 mining drones and select 5 asteroids in 0.9 or higher, then send 1 drone after each asteroid.
Make sure you scan them first to be certain there will be plenty of ore in them to keep the drones busy.
And last, pray you don't get suicided on.

Hulk, expanded to 17k. Fly to belt, lock ice roid, activate miners. Come back in 30 minutes to dock, dump off ice and return to belt. Attention interval on ice is 30 min on ore it's 15 min (assuming you find big enough roids). Dock - undock cykle takes approx 3 minutes.
I prefer hp buffer and combat drones orbiting myself when doing it to miner drones. Buffer makes you more costly to suicide and drones return agression to NPC's that attack them or you.

Better at it, no.
Enough drone bay for five T2 mining drones and a big cargo bay, Orca. Even with zero cargo expanders you're looking at an all day AFk mining session only having to change rocks the drones are working on. So, fit a tank instead and mine your merry little heart out.

AFAIK, and I might be wrong here, the hulk has the largest cargo bay of any subcap while still possessing a drone bay.
So I guess that would make the hulk the best bet to AFK drone mine with.
