i do't see any similarity or reference in the slightest between amarr and america so i don't even know why that question would come up.
if anything there seems to be some ancient egyptian style to the amarr with the gilded designwork and slave use. the amarr ships have greek lettering on them anyways so i dunno what that's for, other than to create the impression that it is an ancient race steeped in ritual-- kinda cool.

I always thought the Amarian names had a cleary Arabic sound to them. But they are cleary the Super power of the moment with the best weapons so maybe the America analogy holds true...

Ok I have though about this a lot. Basically each race is a mix of other real world powers.
Gallente- French and American. French names and the whole free state with rights and such is very american.
Amarr- Italians and British. They are all descendant from Roman Catholics, and I always found they seem distinctly latin. The British bit comes from them controlling the largest empire, and enslaving peoples they conquer, and only backing down when they are beat down.
Minmatar- Africans and Asians. They got enslaved, the fought for their freedom, they're are um, black. I think the Sebiestors are a little more like the Indians in their look and style as clerks e.t.c
Caldari- Japane and Korea. The beginning of the Gallente-Caldari war reminds me of the WWII, a relatively small scale attack by the Caldari followed by mass bombing of their homeworld by the Gallente. Very Hiroshima isn't it? They made a come back though and are now the universe's leaders in technology and so on. I think their military attitude and state workings is a little like Korea too.
This post was not intended to offend anyone it's just an observation I have made. If anyone takes offence just say and I'll delete it or a mod will, whoever sees it first ------------------------------------------------ I've always owned Kehmor, cheap as chips off Ebay

Here are my views. Remember also that with the game taking place so far in the future, some races might dissappear with others emerging to take their place:
Amarrians: Italian, Arabic, possibly Latin American. The original Amarr ancestors were Catholic, and Italy and Latin America are predominantly Catholic areas. Some Amarr portraits remind me of these three ethnic groups. I think that at some point, these settlers intermingled, and their religions modified and combined into one over the millenia. The Empire is also very Roman in theme.
Ni-Kunni: Arabic and Egyptian, but this is only a best guess given some of their names and portraits.
Gallentean: Mostly French, of course, but their acceptance of open immigrations probably means there is a healthy ethnic mix.
Intaki: I'm clueless here.
Sebiestor: I think the areas originally settled by the Minmatar ancestors were probably of diverse ethnic makeups. They strike me as mostly European, with some emphasis on the Nordic areas due to some of their language. There's also probably a little bit of everything given the many tribes. I also think there's got to be some Mongolian influence in there, some of their portraits and customs are similar.
Brutor: African and Arabic, and possibly a few other ethnic ancestors.
Deteis: There's definately some European genes in there, and maybe some Slavic ones as well. Of course there's the Asian influence, but with the new races coming out that might be lessened.
Civire: Russian! Their names and portraits remind me entirely of Russian and Eastern European ethnic groups. Probably some Asian ancestry due to some of their names and intermingling within the Caldari state.

But then you could argue all day about what other countries American is made out of.
Originally by: Frost88
Gallente - French and American. French names and the whole free state with rights and such is very american.
Are the French not Liberal enough for you? I seem to rmbr a rather large statue with a torch that came from France. I've never been to see The Statue of Liberty myself... But the Europeans must be alot more free thinking than Americans, surely?
Amarr - I'm agreeing with the Egyptian Theory.
Minmatar - Makes me think of Africans, Native Americans, of Aus and New Zealand, hell any "Native" race that got stamped on by the European expansions. You could stretch it as far as Britsh invading India.
Caldari - Japan and Korea is a good idea. I caught myself thinking something very familiar too. Capitalist Koreans though? Not likley...
But then I realised that these are simply four good ideas for different racial stereotypes. If you take every race in the world, you could fit them roughly into these four catergories.
People who are controlled by the media (rights/democracy)
People who are controlled by tradition (monarchy/religion)
People who are controlled by predjudice/oppression (and the fight against it)
People who are controlled by captialism _______________________________________________ Be Warned. There's four of us. We're in Rifters, and we FOUND OUT ON THE FORUMS how to use them! |
