"The ChimeraÆs design is based upon the Kairiola, a vessel holding tremendous historical significance for the Caldari. Initially a water freighter, the Kairiola was refitted in the days of the Gallente-Caldari war to act as a fighter carrier during the orbital bombardment of Caldari Prime.
It was most famously flown by the legendary Admiral Yakia Tovil-Toba directly into Gallente PrimeÆs atmosphere, where it fragmented and struck several key locations on the planet. This event, where the good Admiral gave his life, marked the culmination of a weekÆs concentrated campaign of distraction which enabled the Caldari to evacuate their people from their besieged home planet. Where the Chimera roams, the Caldari remember."
So the Kairiola was originally a WATER FREIGHTER...SO...how exactly can you refit a waterborne ship to fly in space so that it can crash into Gallente Prime... Bet you'd need a lot of crazy glue...maybe they borrowed the glue and tape from the Minnies...
This weirdness just really irks me...

You must be really stupid. When it said water freighter it meant it hauled water/heavy water through space.

"where it fragmented and struck several key locations on the planet."
Were the keys there when the debris struck?

Actually if you read the description of the Wyvern they *do* mention something about it being adapted from a seafaring design. So while the Chimera's description seems unambiguous, it wouldn't be that weird at all.

I too, thought both were boats!
This doesnt mean they have to have sails, pointy hulls and lots of propellers ofc.
I can easily Imagine the lower part of the chimea to act as a kind of hydrofoil.. EVE history

Well, since we're talking about the Gallente-Caldari War here, this is before the patch that limited you to 1 MWD per ship, so it would have been a trivial matter to get it to those speeds.

You'd need alot of 100MN MWDs to get it off.

The Rupture was very clearly a wooden pirate ship, at least before the Trinity graphics upgrade. The wreathe was a steam locomotive. Gotta love those crafty Minmatar ship designers.

Guess that means the Hel came from when they managed to launch one of their tent style homes into orbit during a weapons test, and the Nidhoggur simply fractured off the back during launch/leaving the atmosphere. Thus they decided to refer it as a mini Hel.
