I've had this in a tab for a while now kept meaning to listen to it.
Generally though I hate podcasts, sitting there staring blankly at nothing listening to people talk, I quickly get bored start looking at something else.
I stuck at it though, and listened to most of these casts, I'm very glad I did! Even though they did drag on a bit I learned a lot and really got some inspiration. I think I'd prefer shorter casts, more frequently.
But what was more interesting where your short bite pvp solo videos.... this is WAY much more up my street, even though it was 1am watched them all. it goes to show that A video doesn't have to be long, intricate and amazing, just these short examples have helped me adjust my attitude a bit more to pvp. Though I think you should work on improving the quality. even though its 1080p the text was blurry and couldn't read things like distance, ship types and velocity very well.
I always imagined solo pvp or small gang to just be a case of suicide where your always going to just get blobbed, but some of the tactics you reveal show that its just not as simple as that.
I did have some questions / comments though ;
Hyperion - Several times I hear you go on about this ship as some kind of 'win-ship' but I dont get it, why? what does it have that the megathron or dominix cant do much better? You mentioned "destroying pirates with a hyperion" but deliberately not going in a hyperion to not scare them away... Video of this pls? or some explanation as to why you hold it with so much reverence.
Where to start - a lot of what you talk about is interesting but quite deep, I've got a few characters 20m sp and 50m sp and even with this much sp and a reasonable amount of ISK I'm always apprehensive of pvp. Where should a beginner start to build up confidence? frigates, cruisers or BC. It seems BC's are the best place to start and you talk about the HAM drake a lot.. but what about other race's BC's
ISK fund - How do you guys fund yourself, have you got a massive bank roll by now and all you care about is getting at least one kill before going down, or do you have to stop and make some isk. You say a HAM drake is a cheap ship.. and to me it is, but what about other newer players, should they fit all t2 like you do, should they insure etc.
sorry, Im rambling on a bit myself now lol
Anyway... MOAR videos... less gibber jabber :) |

I've not actually listened to the later podcasts (shame on me, will do one of these days) and still think I can answer that. Ships in general have reputations. If you want to have good fights, you have to make the ship you are sitting in perform better than it's reputation, so people engage based on the rep and still get surprised.
Now, the Hype is a very special case since it's reputation is far better than it's actual performance. People see "tank bonus" so "hard to kill" and "blaster bonus" so "omg he's gonna have wtfbbq dps", so the semiinformed campers that you generally look for while sitting in tank heavy ships will treat it about the same as a Maelstrom, which has half again as much tank and dps, in their threat assessment. So gangs that you actually can fight with Hypes will, generally, run, since the Hype does not, actually, perform any better than Megas or Domis who still get viewed as less scary.
This is speaking purely from a traditional armortank (dualrep) solo view. Shield gank Hypes are scary but hardly work on their own. |

Say, base EM resist is 0%, base kinetic 40% (for the sake of simplicity). In this case kinetic missiles deal (100-40)*1.25 % of their base damage while EM ones deal full 100, so it's 75/100 ratio. Let's assume he plugs in 2 invuls and his resists go up more or less this way: 50% EM, 70% kinetic. The damage output is now (100-70)*1.25 for kinetic and (100-50) for EM. The ratio is 37.5/50 - still the same.
Even in case you're doing like 0.1 damage per missile (due to sig/speed ratio or whatever) loading more suitable damage type will always give you the same percentage difference. 2008, CCP Zulu(park): "command ships are fine as is" 2011, CCP Greyscale: "is the Nighthawk actually underpowered?" Nice progress, guys. |

still shooting with bonus dmg is always a good idea instead of constantly reloading, trying to find a hole, unless you clearly can't break the tank |

You also have to take into account the fact that you have to go through their armor too, mostly important when shooting at canes where it actually makes thermal damage better than EM even if they don't have an em rig |

Thanks for the correction, not sure why I thought damage mod and resists were independent

Miriam hit the nail on the head - I hope we weren't referring to the hype as a godly ship, I definitely don't think it is (in fact it may be one of the few ships ive never gotten a decent fight in). It's more that it typifies the brawly kind of ship traditionally used for busting pirate camps in lowsec, in instances where enemy ships are slower and match the hype's ideal damage range. |

Episode 6 is up. The infamous Garmon joins us to chat about a whole bunch of random stuff (including garmonation 9)
We probably should have had a bit more structure going into this episode, but hopefully you guys like hearing from one of the best small scale pvpers the game has ever seen. |

6th episode was a great listen as usual.
I found it really interesting to hear garmons perspective.
I think it would be really cool if you guys had well known or experienced solo pvpers on as guest speakers more often. Not necessarily to do an entire episode devoted to them, but just to have them add their perspective and input to your usual episode structure to spice things up a bit. New voices and perspectives definitely adds a lot of entertainment value while increasing the educational value at the same time. Latest PVP Video: Laktos Intolerance 2

A good podcast again.
However after having listening to it and gone over my thoughts I agreee with Garmon, you should probably have edited out somethings.
Touched up is a sensative subject, ie, the very low opinion 0.0 folks and pvp'ers in general have of high sec mission runners.
In the same breath its also stated that generally, 0.0 folks dont care about isk! Why? Obviously because they have access to virtually unlimited amounts of ISK.
0.0 folks guard their cash cow to such an extreme that they alientate new players who are forced to make isk in the only way they know how, and admitadly get stuck in the mental trap of quest for ISK. Perpetuated by those same people who force them into that mind-set in the first place.
It might be ok for some of you guys to go out and burn hundreds of millions possibly billions of isk a week in your quest for 'a good fight' but to mission runners thats like asking them to snuff out months possibly years worth of farming.
These pod casts have been very good attempt at trying to glue those two cultres together, to show that its not just about isk but just having fun in general. However, without answering the ISK question, and talking to someone on your cast who has no limits in this regard, this cast is a few steps back in the wrong direction.
In my opinion. |

Whats funny is that I actually did edit quite a bit of it out =)... Left in the parts that seemed entertaining and took out the horrible awkward ones, haha.
It is interesting comparing this approach to the normal format, though. I wonder if we would tend to get more entertaining shows this way and maybe more informative ones the other way.
Glad you guys liked having garmon on generally. We will look to do more of this in the future. If anyone has opinions about particular people they would like to hear from feel free to let me know. Ideas so far include some other prominent solo'ers like Prometheus, Fon Ravedhort(sp?), and it might also be possible to get some ccp people on. I wonder if CCP Tallest would consider talking to us about balance at some point =P
All said, I want to maintain the original purpose of the show which is to make small scale pvp more accessible and interesting, keep up the feedback and we'll see you guys in 2 weeks! |

You guys are getting better and better with every new episode. Really enjoyed this one with the informal format going on, good stuff! Looking forward to more guests showing up to talk to you in the future, not saying you should start bringing in guests left and right since I really enjoy your more structured and informative regular episodes aswell.
An idea would be to post in this thread asking what questions ppl have for an upcoming guest and maybe have a dedicated section of the episode called "player questions" or something. I dunno, just a suggestion I think would be entertaining.
Keep up the good work!
