These ships are really quite useless IMHO, they're weak BSs with the ability to jump, and portal others. IMHO the jump range should be at least that of carriers, if not higher.

Well, let's see... Maybe because you generally have more lows to contribute to your tank then shields? 2 Mid Slots Modules != 2 Low Slot Modules And those Gist Amps are hard to fit in, but yea, best shield > best armor :)
