Combat missions? Train Connections to 3 will get you lvl2 missions, which will pay in both iskies and in standings if you decide to go back to mining. Trade missions? Same as above, don't know if they're worth your time, but will advance you towar...

The stories about people stealing POS are because they lied their way into the anchoring corp and scammed them. Only people in the anchoring corp can offline/unanchor POS and POS modules. If the corp has 0 members, you could probably petition CCP ...
