Uninstall of SP2 a success... Go MS you got it right  ... Boo CCP you got it wrong....
Seems that the SP2 which has the DX 9c update in is messing Eve... Yes I also have an ATI card... but since I just rolled back to a base XP install (No service packs or updates... just DX 9b installed) Eve is back and working...
CCP.. guess you need to get another fix out to work with the DX 9c code...
Look forward to you update.. ASAP please...

Im running sp2 installed from the MS website and ATI 9800Pro with cat 4.8 drivers. I have no probs and eve seems to run better. I did install DX9.0c seperatly the other week so maybe thats the difference.

I installed DX9c a week ago, and Eve worked fine. I then installed SP2 last night from the official release on MS's website, and Eve stopped working (unless run in Win98 compatibility mode). It seems uninstalling SP2 solves the problem. I might do that until this issue is resolved.
I have an ATI 9600XT using the 4.7 Catalyst drivers.

Well it ran fine without SP2 on.. and DX9b.... Logged in fine... Help in Eve said it was the new firewall... So installed SP2 again...
Guess what... Same issue again...
How do I run in Win98 compat mode....

tbh, I had a bit of trouble getting EVE to work after I installed but I put it down to the EVE patch last night. Bad Idea to do both on same night but after switch the windows firewall off and using my own it all worked out. Then I couldnt log in but thats a different story...
To use Win98 Compat I think u right click the eve icon and it will be in one of the tabs there to switch on.

The XP SP2 firewall was disabled the moment I installed it.. I use my own router-based firewall. So it's not the new XP SP2 firewall that's causing this problem.
It's a graphical corruption that occurs anyway. Here is a screenshot of the black box that obscures the normal Eve rotating 3d logo window:
EDIT: I think the license agreement is supposed to go in that box ....

Update
Installed my machine clean again.. Installed the following...
Windows XP (base)- with U320 adp drivers
Intel 1Gb drivers
ISA firewall Client
ATI 8.03 drivers
DX 9c
Eve
All works fine... I will try installing the SP2 later on tonight but have other things to do now...
Hope this helps... Its not the DX 9c thats causing the issue....

I had this problem many months ago on a really outdated system. Turned out to be GFX drivers, and that was running on XP SP1.
Can I suggest you try downgrading/upgrading/re-installing your GFX drivers?
(Well, i can suggest ... but will you follow!?)

That error appeared in the ATi series 4 Cat drivers. It has changed to a horrid mix of wrong shading with the new Bets 4.9 drivers but is still unplayable without doing the following.
The only way to fix the problem without a re-load is to run in win98 compatability mode for eve (Right click the shortcut link & choose properties, choose compatability and put a tick in the top box & choose Win 98/Me).
I now play with this enbaled and it has had no effect on my gameplay at all.
-edit- One point I will make is that it does not seem to affect everyone.

So we don't keep talking in circles, complaining about the same problem and repeatedly offering the same advice, here's what DOESN'T cause the problem:
1) DirectX 9.0C
Verified now on two computers that the game works fine under DX9C. This is not a DirectX 9.0C problem.
2) ATI 4.x Catalyst drivers
I was happily running 4.6, 4.7, and even 4.9 beta, without a single problem with Eve. This is not an ATI driver problem.
Then we get to WindowsXP SP2.
Aye, there's the rub. Install SP2, doesn't work. Can't even get to the login screen. It hangs on what I think is the License Agreement screen. Uninstall SP2, it works. It's a problem -specifically related- to some change that SP2 makes, on at least two computers, and from what I've been hearing on the forums, quite a number more. As more people install SP2, I bet we will see more problems.
Before anyone suggests anything, I am a patch harlot. (use a thesauraus; how i hate bot censors). Every single thing is up to date on my computer. It has also been shown that the 99% useless suggestion of "reformat your harddrive" does not help matters at all.
Temporary solution:
Running eve.exe in Windows98 compatability mode allows the game to work.
I can't think of anything else to say, so that's it from me :)
