I have installed SP2 and had the following results.
Desktop PC Geforce FX 5900 Latest nVidia drivers AMD 3200+ 1 gB RAM
Result: EVE runs smoothly.
Now..
Laptop ATI FIRE GL 9000 128mb RAM Pentium 4 mobile
With the latest ATI driver: Hardware failure; display driver crash. (Not related to SP2, because I had this also before SP2) With the ATI driver before that: EVE login screen appears, with only the black box, which should contain the license agreement (see screenshot in this topic) Before SP2, EVE also didn't run well. After 5 seconds, the screen got all scrambled, but I managed to logon however.
CCP, get your butts out of the Shiva room and start making the engine stable again! :)

Edited by: Kabara on 13/08/2004 13:22:52 Just to reinforce what everyone has been saying. Sp2 fuxxored Eve. Fails to run on Log-in screen. Runs fine in 98 compatability mode. Cleared cache and loaded latest ATI driver - no change.
I'll echo previous posts. HELP...CCP.

Since installing SP2, i have had serious net connection problems. With it either not connecting at all or only staying on for 5-10 mins. When I try to login to Eve, it doesn't get past the stage of "Establishing connection to server" then just tells me that the connection failed, then about 30 seconds later I get disconnected.
I've since uninstalled SP2 but Im still having this problem.

on two different machines that recently upgraded to SP2, uninstalling EVE and reinstalling EVE fixed my particular problem. if you're getting a weird black box over the logo and can't even get to the login part, give that a try..
1) installed dx9c (eve works) 2) installed SP2 (eve breaks) 3) uninstall EVE, reinstall EVE 4) EVE works again without need for win98 compatibility mode setting
both computers had ATI (9800 pro, 9600xt) cards with CAT 4.7 drivers installed through all of the above steps.

I made it work by clicking on the eve.exe file instead of the shortcut, but it appears that it doesn't always work. If it fails, it seems to work to first start it in win98 compatibility mode, close eve, and then start it from the .exe file.

Maby unrelated..but at least a warning to peps with dual mobos on amd chipsets.
Earlier today my auto uppdate installed 3 or 4 hotfixes from sp2 that was available on the ms web ( not the complete sp2 )
this totally killed my machine.. im running a dual amd mp system with amd's 762 chipset ( MSI K7D Master-L ).. after about 6 hours of trying to fix and reinstalling i think the problem is that the agp-cpu bridge on the 762 chipset gets seriously messed up.
it hangs during the xp startup where you have the blue dots that shows the loading process. nothing i did during the 6 hours helped. the only thing that got the pc thru the xp load was deleting the amdagp.sys driver wich basicly disables any hot graphics card u might have.
Im back on W2K now wich works without a glitch.. im not touching XP again untill i get a new PC.

Edited by: Commander Krager on 15/08/2004 16:21:32 Lets keep off sp2 for the time being then as we have firewall probs and dx driver probs
disable update in your control panel for the people not pc savvy
for the rest
go in to admin tools then to services and find it in the list then stop it then disable it then restart pc
for the people intalled sp2 then if poss remove it and install dx driver's 9.b
and if poss format and install just sp1 and manually install hot fixes that way....
or play in 98 mode by creating a shortcut on desktop and rightclickin in to icon properties that way

good luck
and safe flying

If you have a firewall problem, I doubt its SP2. I run eve with it enabled & have had no problems. Eve is not a server, it is a client and as such will open up its own ports, it does not need any port forwarding rules setup. (you may need to tell your software firewall to allow it to connect though e.g. Norton Firewall)
As for ATi and the square box for an EULA, I had that is SP1 as well. I think its to do with ATi and some other hardware device.
I would NOT disable auto update, this could do more harm than good.

After installing a fresh copy of WinXP & SP2 I have been running into slowdown and lag when ever I am fighting rats, though when I am just warping/traveling etc without any battles its fine.
Check this out:
SP2 Issues
No mention of EVE, however the firewall issue seems relevant. After disabling the Windows firewall the lag is almost completely gone.
I just installed ATI CATALYST 4.8 so I'll see if theres better performance or not.
No guarantee of sanity under this line: --------------------------------------- Dance Dance Mammoth - Revolution |

i installed SP2 last week when it was made available on fileplanet,
i have not disabled the XP firewall, or changed anything to do with Service pack 2 apart from install and Eve works perfectly like it did before.

That's it, I'm reverting to SP1. If they can't even make their own software work properly with SP2, it's not finished.

Cannot say I'm helping out or solving any problems, but I've got my pc up and running with SP2, and haven't noticed any strange anomalies yet.
Installed EVE for the first time about 5 days ago, and it runs fine.
The MS list of programs that don't like SP2 is interesting, I use NOD32 as my antivirus-software. As far as I can tell, the program runs ok. No loss of connectivety on my behalf.

I also installed SP2 and it hangs on the initial screen. I will try the compatability mode but this is not a long term solution at least for me. It worked under Win Xp and it needs to work under SP2.
