Edited by: Skywalker on 09/08/2004 14:48:10 Edited by: Skywalker on 09/08/2004 14:26:40 Its now possible to download XP sp2 from: link removed But remember that those files might not be virus/trojan free.... Microsoft will release the servicepack in a few days.
My question is if anyone have tested eve with servicepack 2 yet. I know sp2 contains direct x 9c, and that might be a problem i suspect.

A lot of us have been using SP2 (in all its pre-release forms) and have reported no SP2->Eve specific issues.
Be lucky!

Had Win 2k sp4. All sort of problems untill i downgraded to nvidia driver version 53.03.
Upgraded to Win XP Sp1. No problems with 53.03 drivers Upgraded with SP2. No problems with 53.03 dirvers
NOTE: when downgrading drivers windows will retain many of the newer files. Theis will result in you not having a "clean" installation of 53.03. So this page for information on cleaning your old dirver out. (Follow the directions VERY carefully. If you miss even ONE step you WILL frag yer windows install. and DO run the cab cleaner too) http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/

XP SP2 works fine, currently running on 2 workstations, both with eve clients. No issues as yet from M$, altho CCP really have buggered this patch up.
For best results with SP2 do a clean install of Windows XP and install SP before any drivers.
If you have slipstreamed the SP2 install to create a new XP installation disk please be aware that M$ have updated there nvidia driver. On installation of 53.03 it will ask you if u are sure that you want to install a older driver, obvious answer is yes, it will restart and install the driver.

Sorry my reponse wasnt a reply to your question, but I might suggest a clean install as SP2 is a fundimental change to the XP source. If you dont wanna do that try running it in 98 compatablity mode.
As for the Ati part, sorry but I have no experince in Ati drivers.

Same here. Post SP2 (might be related to DX 9.0c) I received the black screen upon login with screwed up looking text (what little there was)
- Changed drivers out (completely cleaning each time) back and forth between Catalyst 4.7 and beta Cat 4.9. These changes made the problem different, but not go away. - Wiped my entire HD and reloaded from a new WinXP slipstreamed with SP2. Reloaded my standard Cat 4.7. Same problem.
This is getting very aggravating as everything was working just peachy until SP2 was loaded. EVE is the *only* game giving me problems. All my others work without flaws whatsoever.

I have the same problem with Windows XP SP2. Launching the game when SP2 is installed results in hundreds of these errors in the game log:
174859 : [Unknown] in in unknown source: HRES:D3DERR_DRIVERINTERNALERROR(Driver internal error) Failed to Lock() TriVBuf
The game runs really slow and consumes ever increasing amounts of memory. It won't let me in beyond the titlescreen. Visually, a large black panel is placed on top of the titlescreen, almost completely obscuring it. You can just see a little bit of the rotating Eve logo behind the panel, running incredibly slowly. It grinds the entire system down to a halt, forcing an 'end task' of the Eve process.
Going into Program Files\CCP\EVE, right-clicking eve.exe and setting Win98 compatibility allows the game to work, although I'm not sure why.
Windows XP SP2 is officially released now. I'm not using a beta. It's just not up on Windows Update yet. I downloaded from MS itself. This is probably going to be a much larger problem soon as more people get a hold of SP2 or get systems that are preinstalled with it. I haven't noticed any other problem with any other application or game, and I have a bunch installed. That wasn't a dig againt Eve -- I'm just trying to provide as much information as possible.

Your comment has no bearing on the greater reality ;) Almost every XP installation is running SP1. Eventually, it will be the same for SP2. Soon, as I said, people upgrading their installation automatically via Windows Update, people buying WinXP at a store, people getting WinXP with their new computer, people PIRATING WinXP, will be using SP2.
I am saying that someone is going to have to deal with this eventually. That is why I am posting.

Just to show that this is casued by SP2... At the moment uninstalling SP2.... As MS has actullay made it uninstallable (sure this will arse my machine again)
If Eve works after this.... Then CCP... Best get to work on making it work on SP2 machines...
