All Goons are hereby banned from the exploration channel. You destabilize the neutrality of the channel and ridicule people trying to get information and support there.
One of the channel operators is a goon, or was a channel operator. He frequently abused the channel by posting personal goon killmails in the MOTD and finally went too far by banning an entire alliance from the channel, INTERDICTION.
On top of this he claims to have kicked CCP Greyscale from the channel (I have no evidence for this, but Dev's are welcome in exploration for the benefit of the player base). The ban on INTERDICTION has now been lifted and goons are now banned in their place. If An Anarchyyt wishes to apologize for these actions I will reinstate goon access on the release of the next patch.
An Anarchyyt will not be allowed his operator privileges back. The general attitude of goons in the channel is off and they are consistently the only group that has to be reminded of the only 2 rules of the channel, which is to NOT discuss alliance politics and don't be an ***hole.

I disagree. Most people I've met face to face seem to be decent human beings. The only time people act like idiots is when they receive a cloak of anonymity from the Internet, or when they are in large groups. It has been a hostile environment in Exploration channel for as long as I can remember. Ask a question while AA or the goons were on and it often resulted in pure ridicule or just plain lies and disinformation.
I recall hearing AA once state that since he was a admin that the purpose of the Exploration channel was to "Spread disinformation so as to discourage and demoralize new explorers for the purpose of reserving exploration knowledge for the elite (GS)."
This banning is a win for all future explorers and could not come at a more opportune time, just days before the release of Apocrypha.
I suspect GS members will pretend they don't care, but we know, its really Q_Q'ing! Bout time the rest of us got to NOM NOM NOM on GOON TEARZ ZOMG TASTY! Troll that.
Oh, and tell it to my backside cause I am outta here.

I concur. A few times I have seen Anarchyyt belittle and ridicule people seemingly for no other reason than his own amusement, or because he considers them - or their alliance - fools. If he sets-up and runs his own channel then that's his business, but if he's doing this in supposedly "public information channel" that's there to help people figure things out, then it's counter-productive and detrimental to the exploration community.

I haven't bothered with the Exploration channel in a VERY long time. Simple questions get you mocked, complex ones get you yelled at, and really- it's been pretty much a nest of ego-stroking *******s since day one.

Thank you for finally acting on this. I've been in this channel for a while hoping to get tips on how to explore better and have seen mostly abuse when anyone asks a question.
Apart from the ego issues Anarchytt clearly has, who wants to sit in an Exploration channel and hear about Goons non stop??
Hopefully people can use this channel now for what it was intended.

Luckily CCP was kind enough to include a personal block function and my right-click block twitch reflex is well developed from years in the npc corp chat. Unlikely. It's just not well-run; the prevailing attitude is that people shouldn't be bothered with simple questions or stuff that's elementary to them but opaque to the newb explorer. I've always wondered why people who obviously hated answering questions would run a help channel.
Wait until Apocrypha hits, it'll be a real cesspool then.

Almost everything I know about exploration I learned from reading the guides, reading the forums, and listening to other people ask the same generalized beginner questions over and over again in help, exploration, and the noob corp chat channels that were covered in the guides they were referred to. Really, if you can't pay attention to the information given you why should anyone try to assist further? If you have specific issues or are missing something critical, ask specific questions. (Yeah, we all have those moments of <durr!> we miss something important.)
Will kicking these guys really improve the channel that much? I think it's still going to be on the elitist end of the spectrum, just not with as much asshattery and.
PS Oh, and to whoever posted about the angry buzzing bees.... probably, even if just for the lulz for a few days...

It's quite funny that OP talks about tolerance for people trying to get information, I was banned for asking a simple question about exploration, within the first few minutes of joining for the first time!

In the begining the channel was very helpful,didnt have to be afraid to ask a question and usually many people answered. As of late ask a question and get banned. I hope it goes back to the way it was.

I rather enjoy the exploration channel. It used to be a lot better. Last few months it's gone downhill. Maybe now people will start using it again.
I use the discovery channel too. It's rather helpful, and the people are nice. But it also has far fewer people in it.

Too Little, Too late.
You could have made this decision months ago when the it was aparent the channel was no longer helpfull to new players, and the tradition of belittling players interested in the Exploration hobby had been instilled in channel regulars wanting to look cool infront of the channel mods. The fact the discover channel had to be made should have told you that there was a serious problem that needed to be addressed.
Discovery channel Numbers grow each week, and its quite aparent which channel will be recommended to new players with the M10 Patch.
Your Decision is a step in the right direction Phyrr, but honestly you could have looked at the numerous complaints in the forums over the last couple of months and stopped the attitude in the channel before it was ingrained in the culture of members there.

You could have made this decision months ago when the it was aparent the channel was no longer helpfull to new players, and the tradition of belittling players interested in the Exploration hobby had been instilled in channel regulars wanting to look cool infront of the channel mods. The fact the discover channel had to be made should have told you that there was a serious problem that needed to be addressed.
Discovery channel Numbers grow each week, and its quite aparent which channel will be recommended to new players with the M10 Patch.
Your Decision is a step in the right direction Phyrr, but honestly you could have looked at the numerous complaints in the forums over the last couple of months and stopped the attitude in the channel before it was ingrained in the culture of members there.
I have been in hospital and have some very serious RL issues to deal with. I have been back in eve for 2 weeks or so and I have been looking at the evidence. I disappeared from eve in september so as you can see thats quite some time for things to go askew. I shall be appointing new moderators over the next few weeks - those that show their knowledge off proudly and are active will be approached. Even if I am not talking I search the chat logs for things to moderate what is going on.
The culture will change. An Anarchyyt - say what you will about the guy is hyper intelligent, he joined the operator list before he was a goon and used to be very helpful. He has apologized for his behavior to me and explained his side extensively, he also understands that this is not personal.
I am now in the Discovery channel too, to learn and to help. More options is never a bad thing, a monopoly on information channels intrinsic to game mechanics is never healthy.

I'm going to have to say I haven't found it that bad. When the guides are right there and players still insist on asking, step by step, for the most basic information then I think it's sensible that they are directed to those guides.

About two weeks ago Anan was being rude and caustic to me and a couple of beginners who were asking questions. I final said he needed to mind his manners. He proceeded to bounce me from the channel.
Good decision, something needed to be done.

My only complaint was a little too much of "READ THE GUIDES IN THE MOTD OMFG STFU!!  " sort of attitude whenever someone new to exploration comes in and asks a question
Protip: If they knew everything they probably wouldn't be in that channel in the first place. You're bound to get plenty of newbies, people just wanting answers to simple questions (that yes, you may have been asked 1000x before and may be covered in whatever guide) but when the regulars act like asses it dosen't help the channel much. 
Most of the time it was fine though (though I haven't been there in a few months)

Not sure all goons make comments like An Anarchyyt did, but ive certainly seen people being ridiculed on the Exploration Channel, and it doesnt fill me with confidence in asking questions. So i quess the right decision was made, to protect the intergrity and impartiality of the channel.

I know what you mean. I was trying to find out whether an agent in space showed as a static. I couldn't find it in the guide, looked high and low. Asked in the exploration channel and was told to 'Read the guide n00b'. I didn't get the answer from the discovery channel either, but at least they gave it a bit of thought before dismissing a basic question out of hand. I'll wait a while before I try the old channel again. See how it goes I guess.

Last 2 months i just looked and monitored what happens at this channel couse i was banned. I was (am) noob too and i hate when someone always says to me 'ask google'. I know that, i learned a lot from there, but please, do not talk to all with dissrespect. Better stay mute, than type google crap. Someone might answer. When i talked with anarhyst about his attitude, he banned me.
I help to noobs sometime, why not. And i give them google link if i can find his problem faster and easier than he(she). i do not need channel when i always get 'ask google' answer.
Maybe my questions are for someone noob bothering, but for someone is just lack of experience. If i talked only with people at my level i couldnt ever find anything with probes. And i am not tired when i see same question on channel every day. there is more than 30k people in EVE.
I suport this channel and i hope anarchyst will come back. With mute or answers where is not 'ask google' in it.

I dont know who is this guy in his RL or whats happening there, but the final result is that this guy is bringing his bleeding RL butt in this internet video game, and starting to stroke his e-peen in your channel using the rights that you gave to him.
No doubt he feels better doing it but soon enough the channel is turning into complete garbage and it becomes a place where bored "srs bznz" 0.0 dwellers are just mocking the "stupid carebears" and all the newbies.
Every your question is bringing you only frustration and if the "extremely inteligent guy" is online you can be banned.
On the other side, some explorers, disgusted with all of this are making a new channel - "Discovery", where you can actually get a help and answers without a mocking or a ban.
For the time i've been in "Discovery", ive never seen somebody banned but most important - i've never seen somebody to need to. It is just the channel culture and the kind of people that it attract.
On the other side, "Exploration" become a place where people are hanging just for "da lulz" of mocking somebody or watching the channel admin doing it.
I dont know what explanation this guy gave to you but he is neither "hyper inteligent", neither decent and i cant imagine what reasonable explanation he can give you for turning this once decent channel into complete garbage and mock fest.
Check this tread for better understanding of the situation.
You seems a decent guy and i really wish you all the best with your channel but im affraid it is way too much spoiled by now and will continue to attract people that want to have some lulz or just want to demonstrate their awesomeness like the channel admin used to.

I don't think the channel will die anytime soon. As for those that don't come back,...it doesn't bother me or anyone else in the channel, it's bigger than us, I just want to keep things on topic and I moderate as such, power games will no longer be present in the channel.

true but im neutral with regards to the channel...so I have to keep my personal views separate when it comes to its moderation. You think my corp doesnt have an extensive red list? Even goons deserve a stated chance to prove themselves and other wrong. There is no third chance.

Oh I wouldn't count on seeing An Anarchyyt anytime soon if ever after he jumped headfirst into the shallow end of the gene pool with those deleted comments.
