Well i have a crappy comp fine, but for some reason classic graphics will not patch. I have heard a rumor that there will be no more classic graphics and to be honest my computer cant handle premium. So is there anyway i can get my money back for this month if i can no longer play? -- Like the storm that's in the making, When the rumbling thunder runs, And the hills and valleys tremble. |

You will need a video card with Pixel Shader 2.0.
If it's a desktop, you can find a new vid card for around $50-$60.
What kind of slot is on your motherboard? AGP? PCI-Express x2/x16/x16 2.0?
If you know, I could help you more...kinda depends on how badly you want to play Eve I suppose

I've got the exact same problem. My graphics card cant handle premium graphics and i just paid for 3 months. I'd really like to know if there is still going to be a classic version and if not, i expect to be reimbursed.

If you're like me, you're probably stuck with AGP graphics -- no PCI Express for you!
But there are some AGP boards out there with Pixel Shader 3.0 and more horsepower than my 5 year old Radeon 9800xt, once the king of the market. So get one for 70 bucks or so and you'll be fine.

The topic of classic graphics being taking out of the game has been on the forums for a bit now... so i doubt you'll get your money back.... I still dont understand this move by CCP.... IMO its one of the stupidest ideas they've had yet..Lots of customers who have paid for years won't be able to play now because of this... Hell.. 0.0 warfare lags enough as it is without them forcing people to bump up the graphics...I know everyones response is going to be "OMG YOU SHOULD UPGRADE" But talk is easy... In reality most cant afford to go out and buy upgrades or new computers entirely... Id like to see exactly how many accounts they've lost so far... Personally i can run preimum lite... But the installer doesn't work... i keep getting "Archive extraction failed: Extract error" every time i attempt to install it... This keeps up CCP will lose another 2 accounts.

I run eve on a Dell latitude 630, using intel integrated graphics. Its not upgradeable. I suspect thousands of users run eve on laptops and cannot afford, during these times of crappy economy, to upgrade their entire laptops. CCP, YOU ARE MAKING A BAD, BAD MOVE! you will lose thousands of accounts if you dont BRING BACK CLASSIC GRAPHICS! I run three accounts myself and am absolutely disgusted with the entire QA process and the decision to remove classic graphics. So fix this asap or I (and thousands of others ) will close our accounts.
- a Disgusted, disgruntled, eve account holder. PS. the patch is downloading at 45kb/s and will waste 2GB of my bandwidth and 17 hours of time before it tells me it cannot run. absolutely terrible, CCP!

I feel compelled to point out that the recent marketing campaign on sites like Yahoo.com to give a free 14 day trial was working. However, now when somebody new decides to try this game version and they can't run the client smoothly: THEY ARE NOT GOING TO SUBSCRIBE.
The irony is Iceland is in a massive financial disaster with the possibility of a dissolved government and CCP is actually making money. One would think that encouraging more players to create subscriptions would be their number one priority. In fact, more irony, this new version is an attempt to entice more people to sign up with the wormhole feature and the new tech 3 items.
However, the system requirements have been steeply increased to render computers just two years old unable to play the game smoothly. This has significantly and detrimentally affected CCP's earnest desire to increase revenue.
(A quick note about the discussion of removing Classic content in the forum: Most people were playing the game and didn't even consider that CCP would make such a tactical error to affect their earnings.)
Much to CCP's credit, they have a functional framework to make necessary patches effectively. Although this version is a thunderous disappointment, we should encourage CCP to dedicate some development staff to revive the Classic Graphic client.
They may find that their recent advertising campaign may keep and sign on more paying customers if they do.

After reading all of the random posts and what not carefully i have come to the conclusion. Believe it or not but we classic users who have been playing since 03 and 04 will not be able to play anymore.
CCP is trying to keep eve online current and in doing so they will and are going to lose alot of old players, but they will receive an entire new market of fresh ones.
Goodbye eve online, but on a side note when u have a game running so long its not because everyone wants to play eve its because many of your original players continue playing.
I hope directors and ceos and alliance leaders arent stuck in the same situation i am in. But from a game that allows trickery and game mechanic's to topple the largest alliance in eve i guess screwing over longtime customers must come as second nature. Say goodbye to my business.
on a side note I got a couple characters for sale. send me a e-mail for info [email protected]

Bolded for clarity... You ignore login messages but claim not to be ignorant? - Looked in a dictionary lately?
Also if you had read the Dev blog you would know that the requirements for Lite are not the same as for full Premium - i.e. Lite needs SM2.0, Premium needs SM3.0 (Even my non-eve-playing fiancee knows that part!).
Lite and Premium are the SAME CLIENT, you just press esc before you log in to change between the two (if I read the blogs right).

Just to offset all these negative posts regarding low spec machines:
I installed Eve on my little EEE PC with onboard naffy Intel 945 graphics. Runs a treat (wouldn't want to be in a 100-man fleet in lowsec, mind), even a slight framerate improvement over classic.
Considering how p***-poor the Intel GMA onboard graphics are, I'd say CCP have done a fine job in supporting low spec machines....

I don't see what all the confusion is about the classic game mode, as far as i can see eve will only have one flavour from now on (the 1.95gb full graphics version) and will play on your pc as long as you have the min spec required just like any other game you put on your pc. Shader 2 is a very basic spec and should be ok on 99% of players i would be more worried about disk space

In the forum thread about the change in client architecture and removal of the Classic Client, CCP had already learned that there were some customers who would not be able to use the new client.
However, as they explained, the logistical nightmare of maintaining two client builds with different graphics engines, was going to be worse than the unfortunate loss of a few customers. The customer feedback from the thread indicated that the proportion of clients who would be unable to use Premium Lite was tiny and, of course, would continue to shrink over time but never reach zero - There would always be at least one dinosaur out there
At the end of the day, CCP are a business and have to make commercial decisions. Painful in the short term but freeing up resources that could be better used elsewhere in the game development.

This is all true of course, but I can't help thinking that it wouldn't have been too difficult for CCP to make the Premium Lite client "lite" enough that more people could run it. I saw threads where people said that if you can run Classic you should be able to run Premium Lite. I had my doubts, but this seemed logical. After all, surely CCP wouldn't deliberately cut out a not insignificant segment of their long-time user base. How wrong this optimistic assumption was since, after trying various workarounds, it's becoming pretty clear that I will not be able to play Eve as of today and I'm pretty ****ed off about it. I cannot afford a new laptop and will not be able to for the forseeable future, which means my Eve career is over.

There are SM2.0 and SM3.0 >PCI< (NOT PCI-EXPRESS) cards in the market.
You can get a geforce 6200 or brandnew a Geforce 8300 GS with 512mb memory!! For example: Sparkle SF-PC84GS512U2LP PCI for 60 EUR in my country.
Alternatively if you have a very good CPU (3000+), you can use software SM2.0 rendering.

If you ran the premium client before this expansion, your opinion in this topic is mostly irrelevant.
I ran the classic client with nothing but love for the game.
Now I run the premium client with all graphics settings set as low as possible and the game is unplayable. I am sure I can do more "tweaking" and eventually be satisfied. The promise by CCP was that the new premium client with all settings lowered would be faster than the classic client. This is simply not the case.
Does anyone know of any good guides to tweaking eve performance under the [new] premium client?

It's very unfortunate, but a fact, really. Honestly, I wouldn't be playing this if my money situation was0 in question, and my interest in playing games would have to wait if I couldn't afford PC upgrades every few years. I'd just find such to be common sense.

now i dont know of tweaking your gx card, but i -was- playing premium client on my desktop, (ati 92000) worked just fine. even with all the bells and whistles going and everything cranked to max. now i cant even get past the splash screen because my "hardware doesnt support shader model 2" (it does) but ccp decided that only 9500's and up are the way do go. oh yes, "buy a new card". shure as soon as i win the lotto, because thats about the only way ill be able to save up the cash now. this time last year? shure ill drop 150$ (usd) on a new gx card. now? lets see; pay cut so i can keep my job (or get fired), rents up, water bill's up, state tax is up, county tax is up, city tax... up, food tax... going up next week, electric bill... up (same w/h as it has been for the last 3 yrs). so buying a new gx card... isn't in the cards.

One topic that I saw thrown around on post replies is that CCP has provided information for the last 2 months that they were going to end of life the Classic content. One person called the other ignorant for not reading the news when they logged in.
The fact is that everyone is different in how they receive their information. If someone has the time to read all the updated news before logging in that is great. Other people have a lot of time to be active on these forums and know all of the up to date information about everything EVE.
Personally I just want to play EVE. I don't read the news when I first login because I just want to get into the game and start doing my thing. If I'm having a problem that can't be solved in help chat I'll use the eve-wiki or browse the forums for my answer. If the news was pertinent to major upgrades and related changes it would be one thing, but most often it is storyline news. I read the little messages above the login prompt but I don't recall ever seeing something about the Classic client going away.
All CCP had to do was send an e-mail (or an eve-mail) to every subscriber and let them know that EVE will no longer support the Classic client. We are paying subscribers and a little communication from those who we pay would be nice.
I admit, I was a little freaked out yesterday when I installed the patch to Apo...whatever and there was so much lag I could not even play it on my laptop. They could have been a bit more clear on the "Premium Lite client" by not calling it a "client". After I turned down all of the graphics to low it was at least playable, except for the sound. Why do they have to have a problem with the sound? It was the one thing, aside from the beauty of the game that made me keep coming back.

Upgrading every now and then is a good thing, and if someone is so ****ing poor, they can't even buy a comp that can run premium lite, they shouldn't be playing a game tbh and trying to fix their real life instead.

exactly who do you think you are to stereotype anyone for what kind of computer they can afford or judge someones life as problematic based on their income, or to tell ANYONE what they should or shouldnt do, for that matter?

I ran the classic client with nothing but love for the game.
Now I run the premium client with all graphics settings set as low as possible and the game is unplayable. I am sure I can do more "tweaking" and eventually be satisfied. The promise by CCP was that the new premium client with all settings lowered would be faster than the classic client. This is simply not the case.
Does anyone know of any good guides to tweaking eve performance under the [new] premium client?
now i dont know of tweaking your gx card, but i -was- playing premium client on my desktop, (ati 92000) worked just fine. even with all the bells and whistles going and everything cranked to max. now i cant even get past the splash screen because my "hardware doesnt support shader model 2" (it does) but ccp decided that only 9500's and up are the way do go. oh yes, "buy a new card". shure as soon as i win the lotto, because thats about the only way ill be able to save up the cash now. this time last year? shure ill drop 150$ (usd) on a new gx card. now? lets see; pay cut so i can keep my job (or get fired), rents up, water bill's up, state tax is up, county tax is up, city tax... up, food tax... going up next week, electric bill... up (same w/h as it has been for the last 3 yrs). so buying a new gx card... isn't in the cards.
Where in the hell do you live so I can make sure I don't move there by accident.... I live in THE TAXES state, aka Connecticut, so I don't see just how much worse it could be for you. Your take-home in your check should actually be close to about $18 to $20 more since they issued tax-cuts just last month nationwide. If you're saying that you're so pressed for cash that you cannot afford putting $5 to $10 aside every check to save for a new card... then you sir, should not be playing EVE to begin with.

Your assumption that we who can afford newer systems or upgrades are brats with daddies who pay for everything is insulting. I work for a living. I build new computers and sell the old builds off on the side. I keep up to date. I pay my EVE subscription with my paycheck. I'm sorry if you have a poor livelihood, but don't take it out on the people who just happen to be better off and make insinuations on their situations.

No, you are wrong with the opinion of a 9200 beeing able to do Pixel Shading 2. The R200 chip series (Radeon 9200) only supports DirectX 8 and hence only Shader Model 1. Sorry to disappoint you.

That's nonsense. Suitable cards can be bought for far less then the assumed $150. Slow down your drive, I understand your enragement, but simply check were you can cut your costs for a couple of months. EVE is just a game, you will not die without it. Sort some things out, save up a couple of dollars, buy a suiting card for about $30 max and you're settled. When you return, EVE will still be here and waiting for you.

Crytek aren't calling it Crysis lite though or treating it as a new 'feature'. Nice try marketting but no dice.)
its about 4.5 - 5 fps in stations. just enough to change skills and very carefully and slowly do market stuff. maybe chat in corp.
outside stations it can go from 2 fps upto 12 depending on what im looking at its reasonable for a gma950 i guess, abit annoying that the changes had to be made but at least i can log in.
I bought a low profile ATI HD3450 for our media centre a few months ago from ebuyer for 40 pounds or so and it deals with premium nicely money isn't really an issue when an upgrade costs as much as a brand new game these days.

My machine can load the premium client but it crashes after running for 10-20 seconds. I can do everything just fine until the client locks up and dies. I have a GMA4500 here, with is a terrible graphics card, and I'm running Windows 7 so I can't really complain, but it's a shame as the classic worked great!

It is a shame, but as others said, it takes alot of time, effort, and money to support two separate clients as they have been. Not to mention it probably means ISK farmers are likely shafted. ---- "Sounds like a bad case of pikal envy, if you ask me."

To answer the op's question as no-one is actually reading posts anymore but just replying "OLOLOLOUPGADE!"...
Classic has been discontinued. There is a light version of premium avaidable which should provide about the same performance (or even better). To get to this you will need to download and install the premium files first. Seeing these are not linked anymore and I have no idea which build you are on, you could try installing them via the client (esc > graphics > should be a premium install button there) and then patch the client via the autopatcher from there.
If you don't mind downloading an extra gb you can always download the full client from the download page to your left. Which would probably be easier. _

I don't feel bad one bit for people too cheap to run a modern gaming machine, which can be had brand new for as little as $200 without a monitor/LCD.
Cry and complain all you want, but if you want to play a 3D video game, don't complain when your integrated 3D-EMULATED graphics chip set cannot run it. If you intend to play a 3D game, do it on a real computer with an actual 3D card. I cannot understand how someone is willing to tolerate minimum to bare bones performance out of anything they do willingly for the sake of saving a bit of money by using a computer for 8 year stretches at a time; it's absolute insanity.
If you are too cheap or too stubborn to do so, I do not feel bad for you one bit; please go play games your machine is intended for, such as minesweeper and solitaire. I appreciate your absence reducing my lag.
