Originally by: Renfrew Shrufan Just to chime in for those that are having problems on older rigs, I'm ditto for the SM2 Intel Integrated graphics here on my older laptop also. It's one of the Intel Mobile 945 Express Chipset Family on XP Pro with the most current 6.14.10.4926 WHQL 2/15/08 driver.
I have the same specs as Renfrew on my Dell Laptop and I get the lockup plus the blue screen of death at Accel gates. Everything else appears to work fine.
For anyone still following this - my issue has been resolved.
My solution, the safe - but long road... Uninstall by add/remove programs, say "yes" to when newly asked question of if you wish to blow away any cache/settings. Reinstall intel chipset and then graphics drivers (don't forget the reboots!). Reinstall off of the currently posted "EVE_Premium_Setup_84609.exe" or similar.
I could have sworn that I did an actually clean reinstall before I posted, but upon thinking about it - I may have just nuked (manually deleted) the old client and left the cache/settings behind as it's never caused me any issues before.
Note: The new "uninstall cache/settings" seemed to work fine, as I didn't actually find any to nuke in the usual directories.
I'm guessing that my GMA issues were due to some kind of cache/texture/install/whatever corruption. I was just trying to get my issues fixed fast, rather than do any more useful troubleshooting - so I'm a bit unclear on where the issue actually was. I do tend to load some funky crypto drivers (both video and the more normal disk), so I really should have checked better prior to posting.
For the more non-technical, cache locations and etc can be found here.

Tried the fix, it does seem a bit better, can zoom in at the acc gates, but if I move the camera around a bit it starts to flicker, not sure if it locks my PC up, I zoom out again after the 1st flicker

I got the same 'we are aware of this problem' response from CCP, although there was no indication in the bug report of it being 'linked' to an existing issue...
I gave up and bought new gfx cards, which has fully resolved the problem here. I switched to a GeForce 8400 GS, which I picked up for $30. My client now runs at an acceptable frame rate in full quality graphics mode, all effects turned on, with no more crashes.
Not a solution for those playing on laptops, buy if you're experiencing this on a desktop PC, the upgrade is worth the money for the improved graphics even if this problem gets fixed :-) -- Rishal's Blog |

A friend has this issue.
Latest Intel-drivers, a complete reinstall of EVE, including registry clean with CCleaner, but it remains the same.
This is serious!

The sad truth is....CCP does not give a damn. I am having this exact same problem with the acc gates. Not only does it happen when engaged in combat in a room with an acc gate, it also happens when the room is empty. The only way to avoid it is to zoom right out....using the tactical map for ranges etc.....so you cannot actually see whats is happening....THUS DEFEATING THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS MAJOR GRAPHICS UPDATE. CCP, your business plan sucks. They will not fix this, as they don't give a damn. Removing players who run eve on their laptops is going to be the worst move you have ever made....Wait and see....You actually expect people in the midst of a global recession to go out and start buying new video cards, or in the case of us laptop players, whole new machines...? Are you serious? Are you crazy? This kind of techy arrogance is symptomatic of a group of techy geeks who look down on us mere mortals who don't have this WEEK's hottest, supercooled, anti-matter driven, Big Bang calculating GIGA core machine!....Shame on you! My machine is only 1 year old. Then again I am only a mere mortal....CCP get a grip. I believe that your purpose as a business is to generate profits. You are letting the techy, cyber douches run the company into bankruptcy...because they are running it like their own personal social club.....So go ahead.....surprise me and fix this problem....or better yet just roll back this useless update. The best game ever to hit world in the history of the Universe is in the hands of morons.....How typical!....Such a shame.

I received this response to my petition :
Quote: Thank you for reporting this issue, what you are describing sounds like a technical bug with the effects on certain objects in deadspace, like acceleration gates. From the reports we have been getting, this issue seems to be isolated to the Intel GMA graphics cards. The next patch should resolve the BSOD problem, but unfortuntately until then there is no known workaround.
Best regards, Senior GM Xamother EVE Online Customer Support
Which sounds emenantly positive. No idea on the timescale of the patch however.

FPS has improved a lot today I notice, not sure what improved it but I will say i deleted my settings, you guys might want to try it. Still crash at acc gates tho. Still, the reply from CCP sounds positive.

Checked my bug report. Says the defect is fixed in TEX 1.0.2 which strongly implies its fixed in tomorrow's 1.0.2 patch.

Set the shader to medium quality! i have this bug on an intel 945 chipset, they work when using medium shader and texture quality. Setting it lower causes crashes

I have the same issue (game works until nearing a gate, then hanging requiring a reboot) on my laptop. However, my laptop has ATI mobility radeon x600 graphics (supports shader 2.0) rather than Intel. Haven't played much since Apocrypha because of this, hope this is fixed in the patch. |

Add me to the list.
Have a: Dell E1705 945GM
Crashes near jump gates and sometimes near NPC Stations.
Trying the Medium / Medium setting like the above poster recommended and it at least got me away from the station I have been stuck on for the last hour. Haven't had a chance to test near a jumpgate yet though.

I have this same issue on both my laptop (Dell Inspiron) and home tower (Dell Dimension) both with onboard video. All drivers are current and up-to-date. I will get a video card for the tower, but getting a new laptop; just to play a game is out of the question. I can play all aspects of the game EXCEPT the acceleration gates. I can zoom all the way out, but then it like playing Pong. I really hope they can scale a little bit back, I know all of the true gamers have the wicked good systems, and see everything in premium "oh gee look at that" graphics, but there is a majority of us that play on how does CCP put it..oh yeah "low/minimum spec machines" truthfully I'd rather have fun playing the game and interacting with corp mates, than see the turrets spinning and BSOD on 99% of the missions.
I have had fun playing for the last year and a half and made quite a few friends along the way, but if it comes down to having to put real world necessities in front of online video enjoyment, I will have to put real life and family first. Flame as you want, but this is only a game.

Hope they get this fixed pretty soon, I can't participate in any corp things atm and it is getting old sitting in stations.

Also post ur OS info, maybe this problem only persists with Vista
Running XP Sp2, Home Edition. Got the graphics settings on low/low and no bloom.
I tested again just now and it's working. I was only flying a Kestrel, however. I was in a Basilisk and Drake when the problem first occured, o I would like to test those ships again when I get back from work.
