A little update for any canadian players wanting to buy the box, just checked with local ebgames store their computer has gone from saying it was being released on the 11th, to coming soon, it does not bode well for us canadians looks like atari messed up the canadian launch big time.

This is funny... a short, one page thread about selling Eve-Online gets CCP responses, but 20+page threads about problems get none. :)
This is just too funny...

Yes. It can be used for multiple installs.
I am already a subscriber (one account only) and would like to know if buying that box would help in anyway (Aside from the plus side to be able to put this nice product into a shelf)? e.g. Is it possible to use the key contained therein to extend and existing subscription? What is this "special edition ship" which is mentioned on the cover?

Are these retailers aware of the 'sucessful' deployment of Apocrypha and the state of the server?

Aussie here.
I was advised by the good gentlemen of Games Warehouse today that Atari have decided not to import any copies at all. As they are the sole distributor atm that leaves us SOL.

Called into my local "Game" store here in the UK, Manager plays Eve and told me they have the boxes in the back and will be on sale Friday 13th. His advised price is 30 uk pounds but that may change on the day.
Funny thing is they have only 2 copies, he bought one and I put my name on the other.
No promotional material in the 2 stores I visited. If that is an indicator of all stores then there wont be many new players buying on impulse.

I read Australia has banned the sale of MMO's in Australia because they dont fit under Australias stupid broken rating system :(
Which means NZ dosent have too much real hope of getting them if Aussie isnt :( --------------------------

The version in the retail box does require some patching as it had to go into production before the final build was ready.
What a joke.
So, with all the KNOWN issues arising from the patcher system from SiSi, you expect new players to buy the game and then suffer all the bull of the autopatcher, checksum errors etc etc? Not hoping to get many new players then are you?
Got goats?
You're an idiot.

Hmmm not looking good for us Aussies getting our copies locally. We might have to order them from the US.
Looks like Atari are treating Eve as a small circulation title of small importance. I wonder if they made out their intentions differently to CCP? |

So will the current boxed version be replaced in the near future by an actual Apocrypha edition? I'd happily buy a copy myself considering the patching issues i'm having (2 failed 70 hour downloads so far :( ) but there's no point if I'll still have to patch it. |

Edited by: Freyya on 13/03/2009 13:13:48 Rollout in the netherlands (shops in my living area at least) has failed miserably. Free record shop received its shipments but no EvE Online. Same goes for Musicstore, Bart Smit, Intertoys and Dixons.
Friend of mine who works at the Free Record Shop could even tell me they don't even have a listing of how many they are going to get which means it could take a while before they receive their shipments.
Fail
TBH i feel that it's a shame there wasn't a bit more effort put in with a nice cardboard and posters or something. Create a small fuss about it, release enough copies on time and you'll get to sell more than you do now. Marketing 101 i'd say Atari ___________
NOW COLLECTING ISD AND CCP AUTOGRAPHS It'll be worth something someday. -Rauth

DONT buy it from EB in Canada (I just did). They sent me the "Special edition" box, which is an older version, and guess what, I still need the 1.3 gig patch. I'm on dialup so I"m screwed.
EB says that is the ONLY box set they have in Canada. I'll start calling Walmart I guess....

You did get the correct box, Troutish. Eve Online "Special Edition" is the new one being sold now. I finally found a copy today from an EBgames after phoning them since Tuesday (I'm in Edmonton, Canada) and I also had to download the Apocrypha patch, about 1.4GB, although I'm lucky to have a cable connection so it didn't take too long. I did a search on google and it seems that other people are saying the same thing, Apocrypha wasn't included on the disks just the 9 previous expansions.

the patch wasn't finished untill March 10th... noone could have possibly thought the full install would be on the retail disc.

BTW I work at Walmart, SO I GET TO USE MY DISCOUNT! ---

thumbs down to my local gamestop.
went in to preorder on the 9th and the guy told me it would be in on the 10th and he would call me.
10th, no call, 11th, 12th, no call
so i call them on the 13th and he says they won't be getting it come in and get a refund.
so i had to drive 20 miles to gamestop then 20 more to best buy to get it. needless to say next time ill skip the gamestop attempt.

Also in the UK is Gamestation not stocking them?
being the pikey swine they are, i immagine they'll have lots of pre-owned boxes for sale soon enough.
frankly, i wouldn't buy from them just on principle, 80% of their trade is stocking pre-owned stuff. i mean, next, they'll be copying the damn games themselves :P

Well, I live in the Alanta, Georgia area and I must say, presence in stores is rather lacking.
I have been to every Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target and Gamestop within reasonable driving distance from the Decatur, Ga area and the only place that I found was carrying EVE Online in the actual store was Best Buy. The bad news, they were sold out as of Friday.
Good news for sales, bad news for market coverage.
Something to note for the US market. Target and Walmart list the game as for Web sales ONLY. I actually had the store manager for the Target on North Druid Hills in Decatur confirm that Target is not carrying it on the shelves, web purchase only.
If you found it in the store in a Target or a Walmart in the US, it's a rare thing.
Any other US players having any luck finding it in the stores?

In support of Eve i bought my copy of Eve at Best Buy. I had a really hard time finding it. Best Buy put Eve in the children and family section on the bottom shelf next to dora the explorer. So I moved 20 copies or so to a better location next to WOW.
