YEAH F***ING RIGHT!! Liar. Something like %65 of our (USA) population is overweight, so this "training" you speak of is absolute bullsh*t. It would, however, be a good idea. Seeing so many overweight and downright obese people absolutely disgusts me. Pathetic, what people will do to themselves.
As a matter of fact, I think the opposite of your statement is true: people in the US are pretty much fed that it's "OK" to be overweight and has become somewhat of a norm.
I believe Ruze is trying to point to the fact that in some cultures and time periods fat/plump has been the idolized perfect beauty. While fat has become the norm in many countries today, it is not the ideal figure. What you see on the cover of the most popular magazines would be the perfect beauty in our culture.

We already know that CCP deemed that looking at your (or any) ship while in station is not required. Apparently anything that hints that you are 'in space' is also not required.
I don't know where you got that from. It was deemed not feasible to have windows looking into space because of technical constraints with the EVE server design. I do agree though, windows would be awesome

What about being able to go into the hanger and look at your ship? like what was in the first video we saw of wis.
Just to get a real sense of the size of the ships.

Just settle with they are big. Look at your ship and look at all of the decks of windows you have.

I'd imagine that it would be possible to have windows looking into space WITHIN the server constraints, BUT what you would be seeing would be a generated "pretend" space. IE: an animation with random ships flying about, NOT a live image of what's actually out there.
Personally, I'd like to even have that, although I can understand why CCP didn't implement it. For some people it would be immersion breaking.
Still, it's too bad that there can't be a single window looking out with a view that corresponds to a static camera stuck on the side of the station. Similar to the CCP Tank Cam concept. However, with the number of stations and cameras that would entail it would be incredibly load-inducing. I suppose you could also have the unusual situation of the server being a client of itself and causing some kind of crazy "divide by zero" problem causing the EVE universe to implode. ---- Fix the Wardec System! |

That was exactly the point. And the 'training' I was referring to is our TV, video games and magazines. Our media, so to speak.
People in the US have a tendency to be fat and/or obese, but they're also trained to hate themselves and each other for it. And as research shows, depression and self loathing only hurts the issue.
It's a shame you are so disgusted by the human body, Tueur. And you don't think you've been trained?

Don't worry, CCP has plenty of time for nerfs and other balance adjustments, based on Sisi testing.
The shiny suit is faction equipment and cannot be used on trial accounts.
The pictures shown have skinny people because they are taken in alpha testing, thus only fresh clones are shown. If your character walks through the canteen area of the station regularly, he/she will pick up weight at approximately 1kg per week.
About hand gestures, how are your Social skills looking? Not to mention people flying around in a pod all the time probably don't get to use their hands/arms a lot...

A few, actually. Kevin James, Camryn Manheim, Wayne Knight, Leon Rippy, Paul Sorvino, John Goodman.
Not all of them are obese, but all are overweight. In the event of an emergency, my ego may be used as a floatation device.

Edited by: Bethulsunamen on 11/03/2009 21:21:34 And to end the "USA trains ppl to think fat ppl are ugly" conversation.. Many widely regarded UBERHAWT women in USA are in fact a tad bit on the chunky side. If people in USA were to live in Spain, Italy, France or Sweden for a month, they would call everyone anorexic. In fact USA trains ppl to think chunky is the new normal, even though we ALL decended from Africa, where people ran around hunting and gathering for food while their ribs were showing due to the fact that they had to WORK for their food, not just sit in McDonalds.
So if you wanna be really anal (pun intended), being slim is the norm. It sort of sickens me how society works. First it was a sickness to be obese. Now its considered a sickness to be slim. Geez. Why cant we all just get along, no matter our size?

Well this really does change things. I like space, I dont want to be cooped up in what looks like a metal box judging from those screenies.

Yeah, WIS seems a lot less appealing if there is no interaction with the regular EVE universe...
At the very least I'd like to be able to see docked ships. You cant honestly tell me that the server cant handle simply telling the client what ships are currently docked...that would take virtually no effort from the server.
I can live without more camel toe, but we need windows.

To set the record straight. The reason our population is characteristically overweight is because our massive supply of corn. Corn syrup is used to flavor almost anything we eat, which is harder to break down. This combined with the global trend of people becoming less active is what leaves us where we are today.

Do you have ANY idea how many ships are docked at a stations at any given time? Hell, at my alliance's outpost alone I have no less than 30 rigged ships ready to be flown.

Well, you can make a "Screen window" where its like a T.V that plays a timelapse of space outside and ships going in and out. MUCH easier.

Popular Science recently did an article on some of the interesting things that effect obesity: chemical effects from certain plastics on the genetic-level processing of fat; the result of a society that uses air conditioners (and doesn't regularly force their body to do the work necessary for temperature adjustements); the increase in sugar substitutes, which bypass the bodies natural hunger mechanism; etc.
That being said, there's a very difference between what is 'obese', and what is fat. As I've said and stand by, especially in the states, we're shown daily that skinny people are the thing to be.
Of course, everyone seems to have a different definition of what is 'skinny' and what is 'fat'. Me, personally?
That's not fat. That's obese.
And that's not thin. That's skinny.

Some type of representation that 'we are still in space' would be nice. Even necessary.
And yes, I still want to view my own ship.

AAAUUUGH! MY EYEZ!!!
a little back on topic, what is the general science behind windows on a space-craft or station? obviously their are going to be different rules since the see-through portions are weaker than the rest of the structure. I know on modern day shuttles, the windows are very small due to weight and limiting the exposed areas that may be potentially weaker than the rest of the hull.

Quote: Hell, at my alliance's outpost alone I have no less than 30 rigged ships ready to be flown.
Thats much less than a billion.
BFD. How much bandwidth could it POSSIBLY take the server to define what type of ships are docked and how many? We don't need to know what rigs you have to display them on the client...rigs aren't displayed graphically anyway. We don't even need to know most of the modules.
How many total ship models are in the game? 100? 500? So assign every ship model a number between 1 and 500, and transmit each number to the client. That'd take a few k at most.
All the processing (such as it is) could be done on the client side. All that needs to be transmitted from the server are the basics, and that is a trivial amount of data.
Some WIS is better than nothing I suppose. And they could always enhance it later. But no windows would be a let down for me.
