well done ccp u managed to kill my vista boot loader after i updated the client
i am actually able to type this cos my asus motherboard has express gate lite operating system on it which is proof my hardware is running fine. now vista fails to boot due to a disrupted bootloader............. the ONLY change i made to my pc since yesterday was to download today patch from ccp and btw the client did load and ran for 5 mins before it locked up my pc again resulting in me now not being able to boot windows
since apocrapileofpoo deployment my pc has crashed an average of 12 times a day --- always while playing eve --- always a lock up requiring a reboot
no other game caused lockups --- no other game had any other issues with hardware in recent months. now im faced with the task of trying to repair my vista bootloader. this new client seems to be getting worse by the day.
SIG: if my message has spelling errors its cos i fail at typing properly :P |

1/10 for effort...
In the off chance this is legit, good luck.
I suggest swapping out your hard drive for a new once since it sounds like that's getting corrupted. Also consider your motherboard chipset, but seeing rarely anything gets written to it, it's more likely the hard drive. You can rule out faulty ram / CPU as well probably. Like you said, express gate is booting so it's most likely your harddisk. _

Correct me if I'm wrong (I don't own an express gate motherboard) But I believe express gate boots of a flash chip on your motherboard. Avoiding the hard drive all together.
In any case, there is _no_ way EVE could have corrupted your boot sector. The boot.ini was an unfortionate accident. But the bootloader uses a different, non accessible partition by default where the patcher doesn't go in any case or screwup.
I still think it is HDD corruption with the info you have provided.

I'm glad to hear that. Now do yourself a favor and scan your harddrive for errors with a check and backup all important data on that drive just to be sure (hey, it can never hurt...). _

it is a very basic version of linux and allows u web browse / play online flash games / check email / skype / and do basic pc maintainence
it is actually quite handy
I'm pretty sure it's on a read only flash chip, intergrated on your motherboard. Splashtop is the original name for express gate:
Quote: Splashtop is intended to be integrated on a read-only device and shipped with the hardware, rather than installed by the user. It does not prevent the installation of another operating system for dual booting. It boots in about 5 seconds,[8] and is thus marketed as "instant-on."
Source
EDIT: reading now that express gate Lite is hdd based. That might actually have been your issues since that does messes with your boot sector. _
