Edited by: Bethulsunamen on 23/03/2009 10:09:03 Its been asked a hundred times since Apocrypha, and i'll keep asking until i get an answer.
When will we get proper sounds back to Eve? The current way that every single sound muffles out at like 3km is a friggin joke, your sound team spent months updating the sounds, the sound engine itself, and you just throw it all away by muffling out the sounds so we cant even hear them?
Pre-apocrypha: Combat sounds everywhere, lazers shooting, explosions, smartbombs, warp scramblers thumping sound, shield boosters being heard. You could actually hear what was going on behind you without needing to turn the camera, you could HEAR if the dude behind you was boosting his shields, scrambling you, or shooting at you.
Post-apocrypha: Now you can only hear lame hit-effects on your ships, no enemy weapons AT ALL, which means that you cant hear from where you are being shot with what weapon, nor can you hear scramblers, nor can you hear shield boosters or even the new neat hardener sound on any ships other than your own. Heck we cant even hear explosions anymore unless zoomed in on them!! It friggin sucks. It's like being deaf and loosing all sense of spatial perception.
Please CCP reply, but not with "its working as intended". I know it is. I'm just saying that its utterly idiotic and the sound muffling needs to be removed / changed (set a new muffling-range at like 75-100km). I play all games, including MMO's with sound. It enhances my experience. So are you going to fix/change this or not? It's like a 5min job, just friggin remove the muffle effect or add an option.
K thx. To be repeated next week until a proper response.

No?
If I want my ship to be a tiny, invisible dot and still hear the sound, I should be able to. End of story.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Ok now.. take the Story explanation:
You are in your POD. There are no sounds in space. But that did drive a lot of POD Pilots crazy. So the made artificials sounds. As you are in your pod you actually wouldn't be able to see anything. so they invented cameras, that enable you to see and zoom freely. As far as this storys go, I think its very neat.
Now comes the point: WHY THE HELL DO I HEAR THE SOUNDS FROM THE POSITION OF THOSE CAMERAS? Cameras dont have ears. they don't create the sound. its created in our pod. SO this change from CCP is a) ABSOLUT NONSENSE and b) VERY POORLY DONE.

dear OP: here is some sound data for your tiny brain to compute
Sound travels in waves like light or heat does, but unlike them, sound travels by making molecules vibrate. So, in order for sound to travel, there has to be something with molecules for it to travel through. On Earth, sound travels to your ears by vibrating air molecules. In deep space, the large empty areas between stars and planets, there are no molecules to vibrate. There is no sound there.
and up close you can hear sound , why? because anything affecting your ship can be heard due to there being air inside your ship
PS, i got this from a grade-school web page just for you.

Dear Gun Gal, please check your logic at the door because NOTHING in this game works like it should (My guns only shoot 200km in a frictionless vacuum?).
From a game play point of view sound is fun, EVE does not have sound but if it did I would theoretically want to be able to hear it as long as I was in the game no matter what I did with the camera.

That's right. Sound at camera should be an option for tactical uses, but is really an unfriendly mechanic to force on everyone.

Sounds from up close are rather crap mas well since apocrypha. It doesn't seem to have much to do with how far you're zoomed out. I used to like the sound of my blasters, now a homegrown pee shooter sounds more impressive...

EVE is a game. EVE doesnt simulate molecules, nor even newtonian physics. EVE is a game. Epic fail that you took the time (for my sake! so cute) to google something without realizing that eve isnt real life

You mean like the zoom in/out mousewheel function that is inverse to pretty much every other 3rd person game you've played?

Fail!
The Jove added simulated sounds to the pod interface as pilots found the audio feedback was useful/helpful. This was asked by the first Caldari ever to pilot by pod afaik.
And FYI where wave transmission is concerned light and heat are exactly the same thing. There is an average of one hydrogen molecule per litre of space in the solar system, though this is indeed far too little for a sound wave to carry there are in fact molecules in what you mistakenly presume to be a perfect vacuum.

I don't understand the OP question.
½ when are you bringing back sound to Eve? +
CCP just answered by Apocrypha > Eve don't have sound. Well, a few, if you are lucky.
More seriously, I totally agree with the OP. This effect is stupid and must be removed, or an option who permit the user to enable/disable it, must be created. |

along with sitting ang spinning ships in-station for far longer and enjoying it far more than i'd freely admit, making your own sound effects is one of eve's guilty pleasures. |

You want to go there?
Then why is it after you have reached a particular speed that you intend on traveling at, lets say 900m/s, you keep your thrusters on? There is no friction to slow you down so you are wasting fuel.
Should we look at other ways CCP has ignored basic physics because it would make various aspects of the game boring? |
