Er, because both visuals and sounds are artificially generated by the pod, it is just as easy to move the sound around with the camera.
It is actually quite useful - by zooming out from your ship you can get repetetive gate activation sounds to shut up, without disabling sound entirely.

I for one, am happy at the sound changes. When you play marathon sessions, a lot of times late at night, the sounds can get pretty loud and are hard to balance among multiple applications without the options to muffle them a bit from the client. Well wearing headphones that long starts to inflict pain on the ears and the neighbors don't like to hear hours upon hours of *BOOOOOOOM* .. *BOOOOOOM* .. *BOOOOM* while I continuously mess with sound settings.

Edited by: Melor Rend on 23/03/2009 14:26:06 I'm having the same problem as the OP. Can't hear anything unless I'm zoomed in to the max.
Wasn't there an option once to play sounds based on camera position VS. sounds based on ship position? I'm not really sure but I though I saw something like this a while back (but havn't checked in ages because I usually don't play with sound).

I agree, this problem needs fixing.
To the people going 'no sound in space lol', read the fluff. It says that the sound is artificially generated to improve perception for the pilot (not to mention that even in space you can still hear stuff hitting your own ship, your own weapons firing, etc) Guide to forum posting |

Does anybody else get a sound reduction, or whatever you call it, when something like a rat explodes? Whenever a rat explodes it causes all my sound to temporarily lower dramatically with a crackle. I'm on an X-FI. -----------

Same problem, liked it the pre Apo way....zooming FAR out removed the sound nearly so you could do that, tooo

There's definitely a problem with the sound post-Apocrypha. When in station everything is loud enough to give you a headache, but when you undock....near silence.
All the would-be funny guys aside (yes, Eve has sound--it has to do with IMMERSION in the game world) after you've played a while you begin to unconsciously use the various sounds as cues to help with your situational awareness. By taking those away we have to work harder than necessary to replace the removed information, e.g. moving the camera around a lot more, zooming in/out more, etc. It just makes it a less pleasant experience when something useful (and just plain fun) like sounds are removed.
I agree with the OP; CCP needs to tell us what's up with sounds. Lots of folks would like an answer. |

For the real sci-fi geeks out there, in the Original Battlestar Galactica, Boomer (aka Sharon Valeri) was not an asian female but a black man. His callsign was Boomer because he regretted the fact that space is a vacuum and thus had no sound. So when in a dogfight with cylon raiders, when he fired his guns he would shout "boom ... boom, boom".

Yes it needs tweaking
And now that the most critical stuff got patched i assume its on the already fixed list and part of the next patch.

Guess again.
On test they have cleaned up the desync problem, and most of the pops and crackles. However, they have also REDUCED the sound fall off yet further. Anything beyond 5km from your ship is absolute silence. This effectively means ALL sounds are gone from about 90% of gameplay. Somebody at CCP has decided sound in general was ruining their game.

Forcing people who like sound to stare at their ships close-up to hear it is just their way of getting more people to appreciate all the hard work they put into the only part of the game they actually care about (the graphics).

EVE is a game. EVE doesnt simulate molecules, nor even newtonian physics. EVE is a game. Epic fail that you took the time (for my sake! so cute) to google something without realizing that eve isnt real life
Epic fail on you for not thinking CCP wanted to add a bit of realism with the sound this time around? Do you have proof otherwise?

This drives me nuts! At least I know others share my dislike for this. Why on earth don't they have an invert mouse wheel option in this game?

Here's my real problem with all of this.
When I have tactical overlay on, and need to see wtf is out there, I've got to reduce the size of my ship in order for the TO to be of any use. Sound is almost inaudible, and even though I can fly by instruments (that is, looking at my UI, shield level, etc.) I am used to checking my shield as I hear the volleys hit.
Last night doing "Stop the Thief" level II (mining alt in a cruiser to get some corp standing) I'm being pummeled by what appears to be HAMs and can see the volleys, can see my shields go half red, and CAN'T HEAR A FRIGGIN' THING.
I'm all for the new sound at jump gates, jeez beforehand that turbine roar every time someone jumps really sucked after awhile, but the total relative silence while in combat and using the TO has got to be fixed, or at least some options on sound levels really need to be considered.

Wait realism? I thought this was a lazor pew-pew science fiction game in the far future in another galaxy with 4 different factions with their own types of spaceships and space-soda called quafe, and wormholes appearing at random leading into unknown space that has a bunch of aliens that likes to take naps and gets very grumpy if woken up
You must be playing some sort of EVE Nasa-edition i havent heard of (offtopic, how much isk you guys wanna bet, that the nasa-mmo will still have sound in space?)

Use di.fm if you need a soundtrack to your adventures.
I like to think of di.fm as the background radiation being interpreted by my pods computer systems, and transformed into beautiful music.

This. If EVE changed to an internet submarine game the game engine would actually be slightly realistic. Actually this sounds rather cool. CCP please make an Archimedean Dynasty style MMO. Thanks.

I think the sound should be fixed. Its not like we are in first person perspective shooting from a ****pit. We are looking from a third person view capable of seeing the whole picture, inside pod, outside pod, everything. Sound or lack of just doesn't work in a third person perspective GAME. GIVE IT BACK!!!
Oops, you censored that thingy pilots sit in and operate all the control thingy's. LOL.

HAHA this is such a funny post....
So Eve should be Scientific now? Well since you're quoting science, how about the fact that faster than light travel is impossible? How about the fact you'd need infinite mass.
Is that enough for YOUR tiny troll brain?
I know Eve appeals to the more anally retentive personality type...but this really takes the biscuit...lol.
How about you realize it a frikken game made for **entertainment pruposes**, most people like even the **option** to have sounds in space...

I, for one, really like the new sound design. It is cinematic and much more interesting compared to the old more cartoonish sound scheme. But it all comes down to personal preference, of course. So maybe there ought to be an option to switch between the two styles.

It was the same way before, just less exaggerated. Maybe if you actually listened to it you'd know that. Or you were referring to the actual sound effects which is an entirely different story?
