Some software in that category messes the patching procedure up.
3) If someone has had the patch complete, but get errors when starting the game, could you please try computing a md5sum hash value set using this program:
Inside
and post the result here. The program is fairly easy to use, all you need to do is to install it and start the Inside/md5sum/Create md5sum program, and point it to your EVE directory. Please uncheck the "Include subfolders" option.
See next post for a complete md5 list of my EVE files.
Nearly a week later, still receiving crc errors with every download. I've seen no responses from CCP regarding anything except on the Fanfast thread. Tried the above m5sum checker quoted above (yes I even disabled my virus scanner, etc), which is a great thought if you can patch, but for the rest of us who for instance, can't patch because we had to reformat our hard drive, are screwed.
At any rate, here's the result of the installer:
EVE Installer: D:\fail\EVE_Premium_Setup_85476_m.exe Md5Sum: 98e3ba6892be303436bdcefc92fec7746c86786f Sha1: a7ca45df5fa7be291b0c28cba703fbabb5b27c22
The installer creates the following EMPTY directory, then error out: "C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\"
At this point, I see four options:
1. Purchase a hardcopy from a game retailer, and hope it works. 2. Cancel my subscription and let it run out. 3. Try to download sometime in May or June, as I don't see a resolution to the issue anytime soon. 4. Ask someone with a working client to zip their entire EVE directory, upload to an online host, and post a link to it. At this point, I have nothing to lose but time my money was spent on account renewal, just prior to the Apocrypha release.

If you have been trying to make this work for a week, please let me try to help...but you must be willing to do some work too. I will assume you have a good internet connection, and the hardware/cabling on your laptop is fine, but CRC errors can be caused by glitchy cables and/or equipment. So just be aware. If you have access to another computer, see if you can install Eve there. This would be especially good if you could use the same internet connection that you're using for your laptop. The reason for doing this is to establish whether or not Eve can be successfully installed on another computer at your location. If successful, then you may want to reformat your laptop and start over...I've tried to cover the basics below - you probably know these things. If unsuccessful (assuming the PC meets Eve installation requirements), then maybe the problem is not on your computer, and having your ISP/cable company check your modem for errors is what you should do next. Ok? Your operating system has a complete PC backup feature...if you're not already familiar with it...check it out. Also, you would do well to have a large external drive (USB is simple and reliable) to back up your system. If you have files on your computer you absolutely want to keep, back them up. If you have your original Vista disk, great, if you have an HP recovery disk, that's fine too, except for one thing. I always have to load the Vista disk in order to do the complete PC restore to my last backup. I am not sure how HP handles that without the Vista disk. Optional: Find a hard drive utility for your drive and wipe it clean... either load zeros to the whole thing or do a low level format. Reinstall Vista. Go to Windows Update and run it until your system is up to date. Don't install a virus scanner yet. Just be careful browsing (your firewall should be on.) Download and install the latest bios for your system and the latest mainboard, video and audio drivers, if windows update has not already installed the ones you want. Optional: Allow eve online (ExeFile.exe) unfettered access through your firewall. I recommend this...not sure if it matters. Download and install Eve. Run Eve and sign on just to make sure it works. Exit Eve. Back up your entire system to an external drive using the Complete PC Backup feature of Vista. If all of this works, you can now play Eve on your laptop and you have a way to completely restore your laptop to this point. Good night and good luck. |

LOL windows
I'm pretty versed with windows installs, and have several registered copies of OS's, so the basic backup, firewall, etc is covered
At any rate, not an hour after posting my previous response, I had to reinstall my OS yet again; this time I'm rolling back to XP Pro, as it had the fewest issues thus far. *Go go gadget SP3 *
At any rate, I'm going to try the hardwired download method, as I agree the wireless can be a bit bumpy.
I'll post my results, hopefully this is all related to my vista installs.
Thanks for the tips, any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!! Insert witty pun here |

EVE has NO SOUND (lets not be coy... what little sounds are left dont count and after zooming out no sounds exist at all till i relogin and reset camera)...
Also, for those having CRC and other problems still, i highly recommend downloading steam and using its service for getting EVE Online, while the auto-patch for EVE installed VIA steam failed once steam patched it themselves i downloaded it and had no problems what-so-ever on the patch side (not counting the numerous bugs in the game itself both continued and newly introduced with 1.0.2), CCP thank Steam for delivering a patch 100% better then you are able to GG KK THX BYE

I'm a patient person, who doesn't give up easily at anything, but this has pushed my last button and here are the honest reasons:
I've downloaded CRC fail 30+ times in 6 days. I've reformatted my hard drive multiple times with 3 OS's: 32 bit XP Pro, 64 bit Vista, 32 bit Fedora 9. I mentioned already, I'm pretty versed in windows and linux installs/OS's, and I use every option open to me, yes, these installs included all updates and drivers. At this point I've tried wired and wireless downloads from 3 separate locations with 3 completely different computers, all of which failed.
For what it's worth it was fun, and I'm upset because I never got to go inside a wormhole or get podded by a sleeper, but that's why youtube was created. The real kicker is my account expires in mid-July, which is four months of lost time (no its not a time code, its paid).
This morning I futily attempted to download using two of the three computers, which failed, I'm done.
Fly safe, happy hunting and all that. Insert witty pun here |

There seems to be a lot more crashes since the inception of 1.0.2 My corp members and I are crashing in and out during combat and while using the fittings window to outfit our ships. It's not just vista that causing the problem if that's what you may be thinking. Members in my corp are using XP, Vista and Windows 7 (he's a beta tester). I think the game was far more stable before the latest patch. If I were to venture a guess I'd say it was a memory overflow error, but windows seems to think it's because your trying to run executables from memory, that windows can not identify, and shuts the game down because it thinks it's a virus. I don't know if any of that will help.
Any idea how long before we can see some fixes?

Edited by: Astria Tiphareth on 01/04/2009 16:55:54 Strictly it's been occurring before the 1.0.2 patch, but it's become worse since: quite often now, on exit EVE will either hang for a while and then crash, or just crash straight away. I've done all the usual suspects of reinstall and cleaning cache and updating drivers. I haven't logged a bug report because I don't know what to say beyond the above. I can't provide any reproduction steps or logs because it's completely and utterly random. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Has CCP considered implementing a crash dump utility like other programs? Submitting crash dumps to Microsoft is fairly pointless - I want to send them to CCP not Microsoft. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... This is my experience too. I myself run XP and before this patch EVE very rarely crashed, close to never actually.
I havent been with EVE for a very long time, but i have browsed these forums alot after the last patch to find some help with the issues you mention here, but no.
What i miss the most is some kind of response in this thread from the devs.
I have found EVE to be THE MMORPG i have been looking for and im having a blast in this game. So i really hope this is something that will be looked into.

I have also had this same problem, and a crash dump utility would be good in any case.

same here,
crashes since last patch. the unpatched expansion was still ok, but now, since thursday a week ago, crashes, mostly in missions or while fitting screen open.
deinstalled eve completely already, ereased everything eve related from my drive manually after that (yes had to resort all the bookmarks ), tried playing with sound disabled, updated to the latest drivers (most where up to date anyway), no success, still crashing to desktop randomly, sometimes 3 times in 10 minutes, sometimes only every 2 hours.
...lost 10 million in drones yesterday because of constant crashes in missions btw
system is win xp SP3 geforce 8800gt audigy 2 zs soundcard asus sli deluxe motherboard nvidia chipset 2 gigabyte ram amd 4800 dual core
with all latest drivers and direct x
hope you guys at ccp will find the reason soon, because its quite dangerous to fly around in expensive ships + drones when you crash all the time...( i already avoid Factional Warfare PVP since the crash festival )
thx

I previously played Eve for 3 years then left for a year. The news of this new release convinced me to come back. However, since the 02 patch, I continue to have CTD's and lock ups. Usually as soon as I leave a station. I'm hesitant to attempt any travel through low sec until this gets resolved. I'm sure they're working on a new patch. I remember going through this multiple times in the early days. Tis just a matter of being patient.

What happened to all the DED complexes? I was online a couple days ago and went plexing and logged in this morning and not one will show up on the overview. Do we have to scan for them now? The other beacons show up like celestial agent sites and such, just not one DED complex. That is a big part of my entertainment as I don't usually have super long periods of play time. They were like drive-throughs...and now they are gone. What happened?
Oh yeah, and I also experience occassional crashes while fitting my ships....

Edited by: Inspiration on 05/04/2009 20:12:45 I can confirm random crashes when closing EVE clients.
SO far this has been no big deal to me as at that point I am not likely as loosing anything....unless the day comes when it messes up my local files of course. It seem to happen to me at about 10% to 20% of the time. This is an estimate and the numbers could be a bit off as I use 4 clients and then it becomes hard to keep track. It is an issue that has gone worse with the expansion ans it means something has changed that causes this to occur more often. I am running Vista 64 bit if that has any significance. And what can be made broken and be made unbroken......will it happen soon or not, that is the question!

This is just my opinion, btw:
I often crash on exit, and it is always creating a sound loop, so I suspect it is soundcard related, especially worse since the last major patch
I use an Audigy card too, new drivers make no difference ---

I am having issues still with the EVE On-line Installer for this latest patch. I have tried to download this twice now - and each time it has failed after downloading the 1985MB of files - with 99% done and time remaining 0:00:00. I have loads of disk space left - so I presume it isn't that - but it simply doesn't seem to want to go any further and Vista just reports that the program has stopped responding and kills it off. --------------------------------- Mining Director. I haven't thoroughly tested this yet, but the sound related crashes seem to be related to the 'world sounds' slider. I have yet to have a crash with just that slider set to 0 with all other sliders up. When I have tried to bring the world sounds back up, I will eventually get crashes in combat or in station. I notice the issue with the pod model and the pod cloaking model appearing at 90 degrees to each other is fixed, this is good...
However, now when warping in a pod the warp animation appears vertically aligned to the pod instead of being in the direction of travel. (Its surprising how disconcerting I found that the first time :p )

Edited by: Amerus on 21/04/2009 02:48:22 I am not going to rant, but I would like to express how upset I am about what I have had to go through to NOT get the program working.
1. On patch day I used the autopatcher that eve automatically runs. I received the corrupt files error which told me to reinstall eve.
2. I uninstalled eve and all user files.
3. I downloaded the offline installer (all 2.2 gigs) and attempted to install. I got the corrupt checksum error.
4-9 I re-downloaded and attempted to install eve FIVE TIMES with the same checksum corrupt installation files error. That's a total of 10.6 GIGS of downloading. My ISP's safeties have engaged and now my internet is moving at 56k speed. Thanks.
Still not working. Tried downloading it and installing twice today alone.
What can I do? How come ccp doesnt respond to this thread? Please remove the checksum feature all together because it is useless.

Ok I just wanted to say I found something that works on the corruption issues. (at least for me)
If you are using a Nvida video card make sure you have the latest drivers that were released at the beginning of this month.
Once I updated the video driver, I was able to get the offline installer to work. However when I tried to install a second client I once again had the corruption issues.
I decided to give the normal Downloader a try again and was able to install two more clients with no corruption issues.
A few key steps.
1) delete the original install folder. 2) make sure you delete the last install attempt in your temp file cache if it doesn't auto delete. 3) cross fingers 4) thank CCP 4 all their trouble shooting help and great communications with their player base.. (sarcasm)

This is bull****! sort this ****ty patching system out for ****sake or i'm off else where. Every ****ing time i HAVe to download the full client due to the imcompitance of the monkey programmers at CCP who can't even program a decent system to patch a game.
I'm on Steam, I am unable to download the patch due to the fact that it cannot download the patch. It's not on the site either.
Now what? Download the full client?

I've not experience major patch issues before, but I'm currently getting "Update failed with following error: Unknown patching failure. Error Code 18". This is despite using the inbuilt downloader with eve, the manual patch updater, the offline installer of the full client and the online version of the full client. It is interesting to note, however, that the current "full version" does not include the most recent patch, which then requires you do download the patch... you you see a pattern here?
8 pages of posts so I didn't read all of them... anyone else with the same?

Same for me - I've never been able to autopatch and have had to download the full 2gb file each time there's a patch.
This time - its just not working and its not the files are corrupt. I was able to download a working client file to an old desktop and got it to install without any problems. What's weird is that after copying the file to a portable HDD and trying to install it to my main PC (after reinstalling the OS no less) the working file comes up as corrupt.
The only difference between the 2 PCs is that the old one is XP and the new one is Vista. I've tried everything I can think of - disabled the internet security software, switched off account management control. Nothing works.
My game is totally dead.
