Mission
The mission of Rule of Five is to be the premier organization for mature, thoughtful, and focused individuals who value competitive online play within a structure catering to working adults. We are open to any player who meets our values test (outlined below) who is 21 years and older. We recruit only players who have a paid account, trial accounts are not accepted.
History
We started this journey as a gaming group in April, 2008. The CEO was a refugee from Empire PVP and big alliance 0.0 politics. The initial inspiration was to find a simpler gaming style, good mature people to game with, and to focus on meaningful team goals. From there we built a team of leaders, recruited a good group of core players and began working towards our goals. Rule of Five is a new corporation created from old corporations.
The first year was very successful, though it was filled with what would seem endless wars, a betrayal, and tireless conversations about the future of the organization and our future in EVE. Although trying times test people, they also reveal character; the team is stronger and more committed to our principles. After a year in the corporation growth grinder we have consolidated several corporations into one house and created a 0.0 PVP wing to provide that gaming experience. Rule of Five is the foundation corporation for our new alliance, "The Junta", and operates under five core principles.
The Five Principles
Rule 1: Maturity Gaming. We are a gaming group dedicated to older members. We advertise to the working, studying, family oriented gamer that doesn't have time for meaningless e-peen measuring, psycho, megalomaniacal leaders, nor rampant juvenile stupidity. We offer a reasonably clean environment of good, solid people. We do specify a minimum age of 21 to enter the corporation but exceptions can be made if a justification is demonstrated.
Rule 2: Real Life Is Real. We realize for some hardcore gamers real life is what you have to do between gaming sessions to pay for electricity and Ramen noodles. Our focus is a little different; we encourage and want our members to take care of: the job, the home, and the children, and when extra time is available have fun with us. We are very understanding and tolerant of peopleÆs real lives and will make any reasonable accommodation to help.
Rule 3: Leaders Listen. As adults, we want our voice heard, we want our say in decisions and that need is respected. Most decisions are made on Ventrilo or after lengthy forum discussion. Decisions that are pressing, urgent, or critical are made by the leaders as needed. Responsibility comes with authority, but as adults we discuss everything that can be discussed.
Rule 4: Openness. Our organization does not focus on what "kind" of person you are, we accept anyone who finds our values appealing. We accept any type of person onto our team, regardless of your background. Our core commitment is that games are escape from the hassles of the real world, we try hard not to let them interrupt our fun.
Rule 5: A Player's Community. The primary goal in any online gaming group is to have fun and to do that we must know our members. We ask everyone to use the Ventrilo voice software and our forums to participate in the community. Our PVP team requires Ventrilo communication for maximum effectiveness. We understand that there are reasons when you cannot use voice communications or the forums but we ask that you use them whenever you can. We want to avoid the "I don't know you after a year" problem.

We are open to any player who meets our values test (outlined above) who is 21 years and older. We recruit only players who have a paid account, trial accounts are not accepted.
EVE Mission
Our goal in EVE is to see The Junta as a deep space holding alliance. We are focused on building the team internally and expanding laterally as our needs and capabilities expand. Rule of Five is primarily an Empire organization where as our sister corporation is a pure 0.0 organization. Rule of Five is open to any member regardless of your previous in game experience. Once you join we have two primary divisions: Security and Engineering.
Security Division
This division focuses on training new players in combat by preparing them for PVE elements: mission running, belt ratting, exploration, and worm-hole space to assist in making money. The division also provides basic training in PVP and engages in low security and deep space roaming fleets to test tactics and build enjoyment. Activities the Security division engages in:
- PVE Training - PVP Training - Complexes - Exploration - Level 1 to 5 Missions - Low Sec ratting - 0.0 PVP Roaming
Engineering Division
The engineering division is the refuge for players who want to build and create within the game. This division pools the industrial talent of our players and uses a shares system to reward them for their hard work. Activities that the Engineering division engages in:
- Mining Operations - Ice Mining - Gas Cloud Harvesting - Invention - Hacking, Archeology, and Exploration - Tech 1 Production - Tech 2 Production - Trading - Science and Research - Logistics
0.0 Division (A Different Corp)
This division of accepts members who have a minimum of 10 Million skill points and who have the skills necessary to earn money. The deep space team focuses almost exclusively on PVP, where both large fleets and roaming gangs are used. If you are working towards a 0.0 or PVP career we can make the transition easy. If you are interested in a 0.0 dwelling corp let us know and we cna put you into contact with another set of recruiters.

I'm still pretty new to RoF, but this corp has been great. Everyone has been very helpful. I haven't felt left out because I'm still new to Eve. There is a very motivated and active core of players and an active forum. I hope to be here for the long haul.

Hey Rivven! How've you been? I've come back to EvE after I saw the new probing system and promptly started drooling. I don't know if your current operations would actually be a fit for me, but I thought I'd drop you a line (and a bump)!
That said, let me state that I spent quite some time with these guys and I can tell you that you could not wish for a more mature, friendly, and dynamic bunch of corp mates with a CEO who is the very embodiment of the concept of stable leadership. ùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùù Un fol enseigne bien un sage. ùRabelais

I read an article on mmorpg.com and I think it was very similar to the Rule of Five, is this the same person or just a coincidence?
How many people would you say are Active during the EST time zone?

Edited by: Buthepan on 27/03/2009 21:04:42 I'm interested in a mature-ish player org - I'm very new to EVE but a veteran of the MMO scene. I'm moving away from WoW, where I've been an officer in my guild for about 3 years. Looking for a direction to take Buthepan, and an opportunity to work in a group with people roughly in my timeslot. I am friendly, very rarely accused of being a "serious" person (though I take fulfilling my role in a group very seriously), and I love working as a team. I'm also easily impressed by literacy.
So questions.... 1. You take fresh off the boat newbies like myself? I'm not on trial account, but still floundering about looking for some direction while I build up some core skills and some capital. 2. How many members do you have? How would you describe the atmosphere? 3. What's your vetting process for new members? 4. If I sign on at 7pm PST, what's usually going on? 5. Do you have a website? Do you schedule events ahead of time?
Thanks!

It's possible, we've had articles written about the clan but if you send me a link in game I can tell you specifically.
We have a healthy U.S./CAN presence, contact me in game for specifics but the range will be between 15 and 30 __________________________ CEO - Rule of Five Alliance Leader

1. Yes we take new characters as long as your not a trial account. We'll be happy to help out a new player with advice and assistance.
2. I'd describe the atmosphere as similar to a work crew after they are off the clock and enjoying a beer at the local watering hole. The core guys are in their 30's with the range being from 25 to 55 so a good bit of variety. Our numbers are 80+ and we keep between 15 and 30 guys online.
3. Speak to me in game about the vetting process.
4. at 7pm PST we are usually in the middle of mission ops, or whatever 'scheduled op' is happening. Officers are typically doing their thing, recruiting, logistics, production, etc.
5. Website, yes. We do have some scheduled events for example this weekend we have a frigate 'king of the ring' with a prize. We also have another prize/competition for creating an alliance logo. __________________________ CEO - Rule of Five Alliance Leader

I like the idea of establishing a presence there (which is why I'm also considering Wessex atm) ... does RoF have any ambitions in this direction? We have been running some W space operations, I'll be honest and say that we won't be packing up and moving to W space and trying to live life on the fringe but we do use the resource. We had a W space op just last night. Get with me and I'll lay out the full plan for you. __________________________ CEO - Rule of Five Alliance Leader

I've been with this group since May 2008. You will not find a better group to play with in Eve.
From high sec to low sec, we are playing in most aspects of the game. Opportunities abound for all types of players.
We have stable leadership and the five principles really do bound our existence.
Come talk to us.

Hello,
I'm glad I took the time to browse through the forums at work today. Tonight will be my 3rd night playing EVE as I finish the tutorial missions and get past that point in the game. I've been looking for a corporation and am pleased to hear that you'll not mind taking in someone fresh off the boat.
I would like to know if someone as new to EVE as I am would have a better time of it getting started with eve university or if I would be more comfortable joining with your corporation instead? I'm 23 with 2 jobs, a wife and baby, so you can imagine I don't have a whole lot of free time to play. I am actually here because I'm quitting playing the eternal treadmill that is WoW. I've been an endgame Raider in EQ/WoW for the last 9 years, and frankly don't have time for that kind of an in game commitment any more. To top it off, it gets old fast when you have so much more to take care of in RL :)
It's nice to see a group here that recognizes and accepts that.
So, think I would be a good fit for you guys? I'm really enjoying EVE so far. After I'm done with the tutorial missions, I'll probably be poking around with questions and looking for new friends. Did I just find a few? "Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome." |

Excellent Organization. Fair treatment for new players. Vast game knowledge and experience. In place strategies to get newer players involved and progressing through the game. One of the best out there for new and old players alike.
Wormholes, level 4's, mining ops, pvp training and experience; what else could a player want?
