ok im gonna complain and whine or what you wanna call it.
As you can all see this is a fairly new char a alt even. I make it its to simple to create now. Took me less than 1min to make. here is the thing even if i did wonder why i didin't get to pick skills before i logged it in. I had no idea what they ment by that but ok.
here is the alts or new guys start with 56k sp... and like 12 skills. ok ... this i dont get what kind of a " smart " person from ccp thought that would be a good idea. See now even with the 100% boost its gonna take minimum of 2-3weeks to get it to 1.6m if not more it might take little less time i dont know i dont care. Thing is how does it go from after beta when we had less than 100k when we started then annoyingly enough they boosted it to 800k than back to 56k... i mean comon... Not only is it bad for new players as well us that have been playing longer. Worse for new ppl as its the isk they need to spend for all those new skills. As well pausing training on our main chars for 2-3 weeks so our " alts " can train like basic skills to use a cyno or something along those lines.
Why not just make it like super easy for new ppl and instead of having 100% boost why not just like insta train... it would make them pretty happy, us older guys pretty happy and eve would be a better place. Maby i am wrong maby this new this is awsome 100% boost is the bestso a new player in his noob ship can work his behind of with his 15 skills and 60k sp for the next 5-6 weeks just so he can afford skills...
I honestly have no clue what ccp are actually thinking considering how eve is a carebear world these days they do their bidding in 95% cases anyways. So why not change this ?
Anyways i let you ppl think about it. i gotta keep training my alt for alteast 5days now so he can run a corp ...

Its been calculated that after about a month you have exactly the same amount of skill points as the old system. The difference is that you can now customise your alt better. And with the skill queue addition its easy because you dont have to sit there waiting for all you level 1 skills to complete.

You used to start with even fewer SP, and had no double training speed.

Thats just it. Only alts were really using the starting skills fully.
Most people on their first time will not know what they want to do, and CCP has designed it thus.
The speed boost means alts can get learning skills out of the way extremely quickly (and science 3 is already trained for cybernetics).
OP just go biomass yourself. You are just ****ed because you cannot create an alt with corporation management 5 instantly.

i agree, the 100% bonus time lets u modify ur player a little more effectively essentially making ur character a specialist rather then a jack of all trades. but i do understand ur point.

Edited by: De Guantanamo on 27/03/2009 05:02:40 New system is great for alt creation. I haven't done the exact math, but with dedicated neural remap and proper skills, I'm guessing you could make a cyno alt in a matter of days if necessary. I'm currently making a POS gunner alt; trained cybernetics 1 immediately for +3s, then remapped neural stuff for memory/charisma, then training learning skills from EveMon, then anchoring to 5 and starbase defense to 4. I think its going to be around 13 days total. Pretty damn good IMO. Total sp will be around 1.3 mil
I think you can do almost do something similar with a T2 transport alt as well. You couldn't get the covert ops one (by this I mean with cov ops cloak) but you could get the fat, +36k m3 rigged one with +2 to warp strength. At least it would be very close to the 1.6 mil sp mark.
Anyway, I personally like the new system; new characters have a few options open to them. Remap and train learning and wait, train some fun stuff, or a little bit of both.

You're wrong about having to spend a lot of isk getting the skills, do the tutorial and you'll get a huge bundle of skillbooks thrown at you, and make a pretty penny, for a new player, too.
I think this system is vastly superior to the old. ==================================================

Edited by: Renarla on 27/03/2009 05:20:52 The new system is vastly superior to the old one for new players, and depending on what you want to do with your alt it can go either way. A better experience for the new players is what really matters, though, and it succeeds greatly in that.

This is way better for new players. In the old system player had to make important descissions before they even know the game... I know it took me more than 30min to create my very first char.
With the new system you just choose some looks and race and thats it. Do the tutorial missions and you will learn a lot about the different aspects of eve. By doing those tutorials you will get the books needed to specialize in those aspects. This is way better for new players.

You get double training speed to 1.6M SP, and your combat character doesn't start off with Mining 5. Enjoy!

If you made a character right before Apoch, you get both the starting skills plus double SP to 1.6M =D
I personally prefer the original system - for alts because you could have instantly made a Miner/Trader/Industry alt that was somewhat established, but also for new chars.
Sure if they actually play for over a month its decent for them, but it makes their first few weeks even more painstakingly boring. It gives new players a higher chance of saying "This game is BORING!" and not playing long enough to take advantage of the new system.
Plus, it really hurts the free trials. By the time your trials over you will still be working on learning skills before you have anything decent, and also by the time the trials over you will be under or only reaching the amount of SP you started with before Apoch...

You sir, are wrong! If you do the tutorial missions you will get almost the same skillbooks as when you did before... The only thing that has changed is that you have to earn your skillbook by completing a very easy mission where you also get paid for. You don't have to spent anything

This.
For a new player this change is only a disadvantage as you'd have use for pretty much every single skillpoint provided, instead of being able to fly a decently fitted frigate after 2-7 days it'll now take you 2 weeks.
This is great for old pilots who wish to quickly start up trader, scanner or hauler alts. Slap in +4's, train only the absolutely necessary learning skills and you'll be ready to go in no-time.
What's interesting is that characters created before Apochrypha also got the skill training boost.

it is fun, in last three days I have helped my 3 friends with entering this game. Current system is great, while it will not flood you with lots of skills which you have no clue about, you have few basic and boost to learning speed. This works perfect.
You mentioned that you could fly decent frigate in 2-3 days, but actualy they are doing tutorial missions, try to gt to know the UI itsef, they have no idea what it means decent fitted frigate... they would need to go EFT, buy on market, etc.etc. really this system is really benefit for NEW players.
...and it is nerf for alt creation for old chars, when you could have your alt quite perfectly working for anything after 1-2 day of training befor Apocrypha. Lucky those who created such alt before apocr. and now having also speed boost :) __________________________________ I do it myyyy wayyyy... Milky Way. |

Noteworthy that the beginning combat arc gives a tier 3 frigate with a limited fit. You don't need all level 4's or 5's to run level 1's or scour belts, so it's okay.
And yes, you get some skill books from the arcs, and some skill books from the tutorials. (You don't need to be in the starter arcs to see the tutorials, check your help screen.)

This is why I created my 3-char Achura research/cyno alts BEFORE the M10 update.
Added bonus - you start with free needed skills at V, and still get double learning speed until 1.6M.
Research rats had 9 MR/PE slots and Metallurgy III/Sci IV in less than a day. Cyno pilots will be ready within 3 days of needing them.

Holy crap! Bs 5 in nearly half the time on an alt anyone? That is if you can get your learnings a nice set of implants a remap and bs to 4 before you hit 1.6 mil. Quick! Someone do the math I'm drunk.

Believe it or not, CCP did not create the new system in order to cater to existing players.
The new system works really well for us 'old timers' as it allows for a much faster and more focused alt breeding. The instant griefing can-flipping combat alt is no more though which I will shed no tears over personally.
For a brand new player who have read all the horror stories about the "Eve Learning Cliff" the slow introduction to skills and game concepts is dead-on. The tutorial is pretty damn nice now.
