Has anyone here never met another EVE-playing human being? I've been playing this game for 4 years and 4 months with no breaks, and I have never met anyone who plays EVE. I even have an EVE shirt! Yes i wear it when i am not showing off my immense gamer muscles. Do you people even exist?
I have however met 2 people who have played it in the distant past, and a few others who have HEARD of it. I don't count my friend who I got into EVE a couple months ago.
I think all EVE players just spend all their time indoors... playing EVE.

You've been playing for 4 years and 4 months without a break, dude you must be exhausted.
Alas no i have not ever met anyone who plays or indeed has played EVE. To be honest i think your lucky that you've met people who have even heard of it.
However as an EVE player i do not spend all my time inside playing EVE, in fact im finding it hard to find time to play it at all.

I know my hands are such bloody stumps that i now type with my nose. Good thing it's so big.
Is it common for pod pilots not to know any other players? Are we just unlucky/live in the boondocks?

I've been playing since 2003 and have never met anyone who plays Eve...not counting the one guy I introduced the game to. But I have met a few who have heard of it, mostly WoW players

All the "gamers" I've met have been into other things. A number of them have heard of EVE, most of them react with "Eww" when I mention it.

Yes, the guy who got me into this game is an rl m8 of mine and I've managed to get a few of my other RL m8s to play it.

My wife and I both play and have met (in person) one person of our last corp (he actually attended our wedding). We have plans to meet one of our current corp members when he comes over from Europe later this year. I think a lot of it is knowing where your corp members (and others) are from. I tried to recruit one person into the corp who only lives about 45 minutes from me, but don't know them well enough to actually suggest hanging out. I have heard of several corps who do their own version of Eve Fanfest. As for running into someone and then finding out that they play EVE, we haven't had such a meeting yet. I have been more apt to run into other gamers and found them playing WOW (or another MMO) and try to talk them into playing EVE. |

I started playing Eve independantly, then got my work colliegue into it, he now has three (No wait... I think he made another the other week there - so four) active accounts. Then met a guy (A customer who came into where I worked) who saw it on the PC at work, and mentioned he had been playing since early 2004. Then I got the guys at the local coffee/gaming/lan center into it, and they roped in a few of thier customers... As well as someone who reactivated thier account because the guys at the coffee shop had started playing. Oh, and my little brother, and HIS friends. (Little bastard won't tell me his charname or corp though) And the coffee shop owner knows a few people who play/used to play as well.
So, from me being bored one day, ended up with a small community or IRL friends and aquantances playing. About 6 actual friends, and another half dozen or so that I know/know of in the local area.

Edited by: Dantes Revenge on 01/04/2009 12:16:53 I've met up with a few over the years. If you're that keen on meeting other Eve players, may I suggest the fan fest.
You should know that ALL MMO gamers are basement dwellers and never go out because mommy does all the shopping. By the time you figure cigarettes, booze and Eve subs, all the benefits money is spent so what would they go out for except to sign on every two weeks?
Go down the dole office and you'll find all the MMO gamers you'll ever want to meet.
Edit: TBH, that last statement ISN'T a joke. Almost all of the wasters on the dole play online games of one sort or another so you'll see loads at the dole office.
-- My subs run out 1st April. I'll probably be lurking in the forums but won't be able to post after that. Fly Safe peeps. |

Hey now, I'm not embarassed of playing EVE. I'm a fan of it so i have a shirt. If people dont' know what it is, it doesn't make sense to them. It's just a cool shirt.
I have been thinking about going to Fanfest actually. Never been, partially cause before a few months ago i've never been abroad. The main part however is that i'm a poor college student lol. But traveling and meeting new people has got to be one of the best ways to spend your money.
I'm a little worried of planning that far ahead though. I've played EVE a long time, but I'm kinda at a point in my life where anything could be possible and in 6 months i might not even play EVE anymore. (yeah right, who am I kidding. But seriously...)
I haven't really been too motivated to get other people into EVE with exception of my gamer friends. I suppose i could try. Right now i'm 1/3. Two got bored with it, (partially my fault), and one has an addictive personality, so win.

Fanfest aside, one person. Only had a chance to discuss the game very briefly though, and neither of us actually identified our in-game characters. We just kind of summarized what it is we do in-game. Haven't had the opportunity to talk since then. Oh, and there's a guy who works at a nearby liquor store who I've seen playing when business is slow, although I've never talked to him about the game.
I'm not opposed to meeting other Eve players. I know that online personas aren't just transpositions of RL people (which is good when it comes to this game tbh.) Oh this reminds me I should really check in the Events forum to see what the status is on that south Florida meetup.
