I'm glad that you slow down. If it was realistic we would have to turn our ship around 180 degrees and fire it again to stop..Think about a 50 jump trip doing that..lol

because MWDs provide additional power to the engines, instead they create a mini warp bubble around your ship, and the warp bubble is what moves, not the ship. When you turn off the MWD, warp bubble dies, and you go back to moving your ship with MWD again, Micro warp drives are made in such a way though that you can still fire in that mini warp bubble, and manuever.
I think its basically that Micro Warp Drives amplify your engines by creating that micro warp bubble. once the bubble goes away, you stop going super fast.
Its like, why dont you continue going 3AU/sec when you exit out of warp? Because your ship isnt actually moving
I dunno thats the best I can come up with. ................. |

Nice try Cruz, but you missed one part:
You also slow down when you turn your afterburners off. Afterburners don't create any warp bubbles do they?
For the original poster: In real space, there is no friction. Eve obviously doesn't exist in a friction-less space.
Or as some other poster put it, physics<balance.
Peace through love, understanding and superior firepower. Real men structure tank! |

pretty much spot on afaik. you are in fact only moving at like 150m/s its just the bubble thats moving at xau a second. as soon as the bubble vanishes, you go back to the speed you were at before the bubble formed. -------------------------------------------

Ok, so you can talk all day about warp bubbles and all that... but tell me... why do you slow down when you turn your engines off? Why don't you keep accelerating while your engines are on?
It's obvious Eve doesn't model physics very accurately. If it did, all the planets and stations would be moving very fast and it would make FTL navigation very interesting...
If you wanted an explanation for it... I'd go with this: In order to make space flight easier to deal with, the inertial dampeners on the ship (we'd assume all ships have these, considering the G's they'd otherwise pull) also create a sort of inertial resistance so that the ship behaves as though it was flying through an atmosphere.

as i recall you dont cut your engines in eve, you set the little throttle jobbie to the speed you wanna go at. so yes if you startt moving you should keep going at that speed until you come into contact with another object. but if you dont actualy control your engines, only the speed at which you wish to go (think not of a throttle, but more of a cyclist on a velodrome, no brakes, direct drive from legs to wheels, if you want to slow you have to slow your pedaling, you cant "coast" or turn off your engines as such) then it makes sence. as simply flying doesnt cause you to lose cap its not an issue, if you DID lose cap thru ordinary flying then the question would be raised as to why you cant just stop using cap and coast. but we dont so it doesnt so ner :P -------------------------------------------

Are u kidding? You want it to be more realistic?
So, space has no air, therefore no sound, THATS FUN! Stargates wouldnt be invunrable so a group of BS could just isolate themselves in 0.0 space by killing a load of stargates.
Undocking would be impossible at minmatar station, u move out half way through and your ship crashes into the stations and blows up and taking out the station with it. Better hope your not in a BS.
If everything actually orbited the sun your bookmarks would end up nowhere rendering them useless seeing as bookmarks dont orbit as well. That means no insta jumps. So you get a BM for a mission, you go to it, and the mission is 12000 KM away. You warp to a station, and by the time you get there its gone.
I doubt space has chatrooms so bam theres goes the chat channels, you have to speak to everyone by "hailing" them.
So far we have a game where u float around in space as planets fly past not being able to speak to anyone with no sound to hear anything finding it nearly impossible to go anywhere or instajump to anything even if you can somehow find out where it is.
GREAT GAME WOOOOOOO!
Also, a BS now takes about 6 months to make should be fun!!!!
