No I haven't, but I have read about it in some of the other threads (after the time of this topic posting). It's nice to see some of the bugs are being worked out if they are, but with no correspondence about the issues they might as well not be (especially since the sound falloff / camera zoom nonsense doesn't seem to be getting any improvement).
It really goes to show how much they care about their sound presentation... honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the devs themselves started the 'EVE has sound' meme.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Again you are wrong.
You would be better spending your time informing yourself rather than posting misinformation.
Unless that is your goal?

Well if you had logged on to the test server you would have figured out that ccp have pretty much fixed all the sound issues people have stated and it will no doubt be released as soon as its done. But you knew that already.

He is not wrong. I am on test, and they have not addressed the sound fall off problem. Unless you consider silence outside of 10km to be a fix. It is obvious they are fiddling around. However, cut outs, clicks missing elements are still there. It is also obvious they have a major problem, that does not seem to be easily fixed. It also clear CCP is doing their level best to not respond on the forums about this isue. I would be surprised if the person who supported this sound engine still works for CCP

I already stated I hadn't logged onto the test server.
The line he quoted wasn't meant to be a statement of fact anyway. More of my perspective on the situation based on my observations. But since it seems (there it is again, omg) like your goal is to make me look dumb, here's your chance.
Or continue to patronize me instead of posting something informative.

What people are asking for is to simply hear the game. How hard is that?
Intrigued by your experiance I logged on to the test server and had none of those issues. Guess its still acting up for certain audio chipsets. What kind of audio are you using?

Sorry to side track the thread but: Realtek high def, 7.1 and 5.1.
I have not seen anyone say they have found a way around the sound at camera crap. Are you saying you have fighting sounds beyond aprox 10km? If so, how far out, and please post your sound set up in the issues forum, in the 7k view thread about this problem.

Hi all
The reason for a number of problems with audio in Eve can mostly be linked with the implementation of a new sound engine. It hasn't been without problems but we're almost there now. We're very sorry it has caused you such grief but hope you'll forgive us.
Most of the issues that have been discussed here have either been dealt with (in release 1.1) or are being fixed now and will be released next month.
An issue that has been raised here is Sounds (turrets in particular) getting muffled as you zoom away - this is intentional. However, before rel 1.1 it did happen much too fast - this has been addressed now. The idea of placing the listener at ship position is a good one - we will look into if we can have an option of allowing the player to choose between hearing sounds from camera or ship position.
Thanks for taking the time to write about the sound in Eve - we will do as much as possible to address these issues and future ones.
We will shortly do a special Sound blog which should help us all a lot.

Well knock me over with a feather. CCP has deemed to respond to this issue.
Sound at camera is a good idea ONLY if the player base likes it. Give us the option to get rid of the silly sound fall off. Seriously, I believe everyone expected this box release to push the player counts to new highs. Instead, they've gone flat and slipped. This was not due to worm holes or tech 3 content, but from removing sound from your game. (And breaking what sound was left.)
On test right now you've cut the fall off back to 5km. If some players like to run around in a silent game fine, but I sure don't. Please make it optional!

Thank you for the response, CCP Baldur. There were some noticeable improvements in 1.1, at least on my end. So I'm glad to be proven wrong about that
And especially thanks for this:

Hopefully this will become a reality, and soon (no TM).
Looking forward to that blog!

I'm really sorry.. but if you at CCP think that the new sound distance model is what you define as nearly perfect you've got to be joking.
Zooming out but a small distance and all I hear is my PC's fan and the UI. The other sounds are muffled like they'd been stuffed up a Dev's bum cheeks then sampled from the next room.
I've an X-fi.. Not some weirdly exotic chip like Realtek God forbid. Yes clean install and blah I know what I'm doing. Besides.. developers work towards the default library that is called DX9 and in turn so do the hardware vendor's who make drivers for DX9. Every other game with way way better sound engines will be faultless.
To recap: A: Your vision for sound in Eve is space**** B: Fix it and the technical crap too. I'm tuning out.

You do realise, that you can't pilot some ships even half decently while zoomed at the ship. You also won't have a really good situational awareness. These are some basic realities of EVE, so how could someone come and suggest the sound muffling when zoomed out without getting some common sense slapped into him? Why would you ever even want to force players to choose between proper sound quality and playing the game in their own style? The idea only has merit, if it is implemented as an option. So please make it just an option and give us a choice between camera or ship position sounds.

Sound in eve is like the game's bastard child. It rarely gets acknowledged and somehow has always been inferior to every other aspect of the game.
I mean for gods sake we moaned about the sound back in 2003 at release and we're still moaning about it now (although I take on board that we've pretty much being moanin about every aspect of eve on and off as a community since 2003 )
All in all the sound does need a bit of a major refurb and I don't mean in terms of just getting rid of the annoying pops, crackles and other oddities that crept in but in terms of functionality too. at the moment soudn (when switched on)is used for simple things, gate activation, I'm afk and I'm being shot so run back to pc (usually a little too late for most heh heh or simply as an occasional heh I switched sound on to remind myself the game has it.
Sound in eve needs the same kind of treatment that the gfx got when they upgraded the old models and ships.

The last sound blog was by RealX and maybe the first in several years. He promised a followup within weeks but it hasn't happened in almost 5 months.
I hope you're being serious here, since sound in EVE is incredibly poor. After planets and celestial backgrounds get updated to Trinity levels, graphics will be at an acceptable level until Trinity 3. Sound however, hasn't improved much since 2002.

a Friend stop playing EVE he said in the year 2009 a game without sounds in battle (zoomout)is very poor for the game. why did ccp not make a option for people who dont wants this sound !!! why all the players have to unsubscribe. I am a missirunner and i want overview about in the battles but i got no sound now only looking big red cross is so boring. perhapst i frozed eve and play sometihng other and hope ccp fix this ******** very fast. And the best CCP dont repost anything here about this Theme. 1 option is for turrets to put the sound off why it is not use for all zoom distance. Some people play without sounds and listen musik but the most eve player play aktive and want sounds !!!!!!
plz ccp make a option for this and dont make backstep¦s in sound in eve

The sound is one of the nastier parts of the game. I get those "popping" and sound cutting out problems but as the sound isnt great (and also the sound drops out when you zoom the camera out) so I always have it off completely and play music instead.

Still think the new sound engine is crappy compared to pre Apochribba sound. Please start an official sound thread so devs and players who enjoy playing EVE with sound can discuss the sound development.
