The problem with audio is due to hardware acceleration ( EAX, DirectSound 4.1,5.1,7.1 ) not working correctly. The simplest solution would be to give user an option of software stereo emulation ( 2.0 ) that doesn't use any hardware acceleration.
User/Player would then disable hardware acceleration if he/she has problems with it and use only stereo 2.0 software emulation ( like audio players do ).

You guys are a bunch of dorks. Sound at camera position is MUCH better than ship position....WTF....so when I zoom all the way out from my ship the sounds are gonna be just as loud as they are if I was zoomed in on top of the ship? Thats the stupidest idea in the world.
And no...this isnt a troll. Im serious...

So I'll trust you are being honest here and reply, that some people obviously have a different view at this. Some people do want to hear all the informative sounds at any distance. That is why a check box has been suggested a number of times already, so we could turn this falloff 'feature' on and off as needed.
And that is only half of the problem. As you might have seen in this thread and the others, there are also a lot of actual bugs around. Or do you consider crackling and muffling speakers a feature as well?

Honestly, I've gotten past the problem with silent EVE. I prefer listening to other music anyways.
It's when EVE interferes with that other music that I start getting ****ed off. Even in High sec, I'm forced to scan at a SS, since anyone entering my grid while I have my map open causes my left headphone to shut off and my sound (including all non-EVE related sound) to go crackly and fuzzy. ****ing ****es me off CCP! Not only have you broken your own sound, but you've broken my compy's sound.
On another note, when I first tried to post this, my post was (of course) deleted, and I was brought to a new "Reply to Topic" page. Your forums are terrible, CCP.

A good game sound engine does exactly that kind of abstraction layer, so that the programmers dont have to worry about that stuff. Looks like fmod would have been the better framework.
On the zooming issue: Full sound on zoomed in and the farer away you zoom you should get less highs and slightly less bass. On max zoomed level you should still hear it but on a really low volume (the loud sounds). Its just seems like they have completly f*cked up the loudness, which is not a linear equation.
And the sad thing is i know games from DOS times that had better mixed sounds than eve.
Please fix it. [i]Computer games dont affect kids. I mean if Pacman affected us as kids, weÇÖd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music[/ |

I have tried everything I can think of including the obvious like changing sound card and with each trying various drivers, updating directx, playing with hardware aceleration settings, clearing eve cache. I cant get any reliable sound when missioning except a very loud "hummmm" from my shield hardners. On the positive side, its quite a good noise though...heh

Damn this is bad, when I took my break with apocrypha, I still remember that the sounds sucked, and this still is not fixed? I liked the old sounds, they actually worked, currently I have nothing in combat. I also really can't believe you ( CCP ) are sattisfied with the current situation? Even without the obvious bugs, the zooming out and getting no sound sucks, so we need an option for that! What is even more disturbing is that I got even more bugs and less sound than right after apocrypha went live, so we are going backwards ...
I am sure that alot of newbies left or did not subscribed because of this.
Often the sound and the music is equally or more important than visuals, imho.

Audio is indeed a problem. The old sound engine worked fine, all shots could be heard, even my rapid-fire lol Ferox with electron blasters had the sound working just fine for each weapon. Now only half if not less of all weapon sounds, both launch and impact, can even be heard.
Would love to know what is so much better about the new sound engine. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

Since the lastest Apochrypha update when I start Teamspeak it says that the audio is already busy and I appear muted in the TS chats. Of course every single other game does different and works correctly with TS.
I am using my latest audio drivers and latest DirectX update. So what am I supposed to do?
Another U G L Y effect, if I look at something from the side from far enough that one earphone should be almost muted, the earphone CLICKS PAINFULLY HARD and shuts off (no more noise off that ear side). Then I close in again and it CLICKS PAINFULLY HARD again and "turns on". - Auditing and consulting

As long as it includes the line "I'll be changing the sound of shield hardeners so they no longer make the inside of your skull vibrate."

Second dev post in this thread!!! I think it's becoming semi official
A sound blog would be extremely welcome (for those who play with sound enabled). If your new (and only??? ) sound progammer is shy, he should be prepared for the usual "EVE has sound?"-trolling and lots of whines and cries. But hopefully a lot of constructive feedback as well.

Shy? Surely he can be...persuaded?
Primary issue I have is not hearing sounds when I should. It seems rapid fire (like my 75mm Harpy) doesn't work well from an audio standpoint. Also agree on the shield hardeners, it does blur out other sounds. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

I definitely want a sound blog! For probers who spend a lot of time in the solar system map, the sound issues are getting extremely annoying. As you move the camera around, the left or right channel will suddenly shut off with a pop, which at some occasions, actually hurt my hear a lot (wearing headsets), not to mention it made me jump. I would very much like the reassurance that this particular issue is being worked on. I know a lot of other players have this problem as well.
Thanks.
