I have very few gripes with Eve but sound is one of them. I frequently have an issue where panning the camera makes the sound pop in and out, usually when I'm using the map for probing.
Would really, really like some sort of fix.

'...new sound programmer...' does not need to worry about a blog, just a fix to the terrible coding the previous one couldn't deal with. The problems are very well documented and very easy to repeat, these are not rare or obscure bugs.
Oh and please add a 'sound at camera/ship' option, this is standard in other games as you need one or the other according to preference and circumstances. I want to hear what's going on with my ship if I zoom out on the Tactical Display for instance.

IŠve been asking him to make a blog but he seems shy, what do you guys think? Do you want a sound blog?
As long as it includes the line "I'll be changing the sound of shield hardeners so they no longer make the inside of your skull vibrate."
Hahahahaha, QFT.

I was carebearing in a golem to sc**** together some ISK. I got distracted by a work email, and then lots of work hassle. Never mind, I had my headphones on. I didn't hear the torps hitting my ship. I didn't even hear my ship blow up. I did hear the tiny chirp that announces a new email; in this case it was the insurance mail. D'oh.
If anything the sound has got weirder and less balanced than before Apocrypha.

I presume a blog would simply give a long explanation as to why the sound is fubar, and why its been sooo difficult to fix. blah, blah, blah. The whole thing has been discouraging, and frankly surprising. This company has always demonstrated pride in its product, and when things went wrong effort was made to correct it. Not so with this debacle.
If you're serious about doing something, please provide an option to remove the sound at camera. If a player doesn't want sound there is a device called a volume control.

So am I, still have the problems though. Sometimes I just stop scanning and log off it gets so annoying. The background pops can even stay on when I come out of Eve which means a reboot. The sound is seriously borked.

You are having the sound problems too, you just haven't discovered where they are yet.
I'm using an X-Fi Extreme Audio (PCI Express version) and I'm having them too (with latest drivers), so I really doubt that only because you have the higher-end version of my card, that you don't experience them at all.

Nice to know that it's not just my old Audigy 2 that is having problems. Was pulled into the tail end of a nice battle last night and thought I was going crazy as the sound came in and out. With frigates, cruisers, battleships, and a swarm of drones all in battle, you'd *think* the sound would be quite busy, but it was like the system was making it's own decision on what ships would make sound. I can't believe this has been an issue for so long. I'm still new to Eve, and it's a bit discouraging to see a company that doesn't seem to care to focus on such a serious issue. I haven't read every single response on this thread, has anyone from CCP even responded yet?

Yea, that's what the blue bar next to the topic title means.

Not meaningfully. After nearly four months of this being an utter joke they have just posted one reply in April stating there would be a sound blog soon (which never appeared), followed by another reply almost 3 months later asking if we still wanted that blog.
If you think you want to play Eve long term you'd better be prepared to put up with some ridiculously poor standards of software development, quality control and timely bug fixes. CCP releases are the most buggy and poorly balanced software I've ever seen, and I'm bloody old. It's like a previous poster said, most of the DOS games I played had better sound than this, EF2000 to name just one.
Up until recently the norm with CCP has been that it's bad enough to be almost funny, but lately it's been so bad it stopped being almost funny at all. And now that Eve is in maintenance mode because CCP is using the cash we've invested in them to make a vampire game I wouldn't expect things to get better anytime soon.
At this rate they'll be rolling out their next upgrade before they've even made the last one playable, which is a first. On the plus side, I've just learned of a new TacOps mod being made for UT3.

Edited by: Mal Vagio on 18/07/2009 20:35:02 I resubbed recently and until yesterday, the sound worked. I was getting the clicking and buzzing on occasion, but that was it. Now I barely have any ambient sounds and no UI Voice or music.

I'm also going to add in another request for an option for sound at the ship instead of the camera. (shouldn't be hard to code in at all)

I have definitely noticed a lot of bugs with the sound engine. And for a game that is otherwise so finely polished, this really sticks out like a sore thumb. The common theme is that sounds randomly drop out, either out of one ear (map) or both (too many people firing weapons at the same time).
A blog would be a good way of providing reassurance that CCP is aware of and addressing these problems.

I think his finally being totally deaf was his demise. When they asked him to make the coffee and he eventually did it they kept him around. When even yelling directly into his ear didn't get the coffee made, he was let go.

This problem is still apparent, 1.5 going to fix it?
I have a Auzentech Meridian - a very good sound card and I have all the same issues. Opening the map, crackling, loosing the left speaker, then the right speaker - sometimes if I rotate the camera around my ship it "wakes up" the speakers
In combat not hearing all the booms, low bass and missing turret sounds REALLY SUCKS!!!

100% unacceptable :( Good sound that does not make loud cracking and popping noises is a pretty vital part of a good piece of gaming software.
It's really really annoying. Is anyone even working on this? Have any of devs actually played eve with sound on lately?

Please just reqork the sound from the ground up so it becomes enjoyable again. No cracks, pops, hisses etc
Also make the sound a lot more selectable. Check boxes for what sound you wish to hear would be good.

Sound blog - yes, would be cool.
1. Fix the turret sounds stopping to happen, until i zoom out and back in 2. Fix the damn buzzing looping sound, probably of shield hardeners or shield booster, it's driving me nuts 3. Aske Eve to stop changing my speaker settings from 5.1 to stereo on random occasions. I really like my 5.1 sound, thanks. 4. Bring back the "you cannot warp because you are warp scrambled" sound. 5. Add sound at camera/ship position switch. I want to hear 3d sound.

Eve has sound?
Yes I turned it off a few years ago because it caused horrible lag whenever allot of effect sounds occurred, such as during combat (This I have never seen in any other game how the hell did CCP manage to screw this up I may never know).
I turned off the music because there are only one or two ok tracks and after listening to whales mate/barf to synth music for a week or so it gets old quick.
I left all sound off because it also makes listening to ther FC/ your scouts/ friends hard with random loudness and clicks for no reason and if you do turn it on it makes combat a lagfest, which could be easily fixed with a press to mute and a bit of a cleanup to how eve sounds eat your computer.
Sound is 20-30% of any game and adds allot to the ambience, and eve is set in space.. an otherwise big empty void. So yes a blog would be good on this issue.
To be honest I am surprised anyone was being paid at CCP purely to deal with audio other then to add some more whale barfing/synth and more sound effect bugs once a year.
I liked the effects originally the guns and explosions where nicely redone 2 years ago but thats it. At this point given the 'development' seen on sound the last few years take sound out of the game completely and refund 20-30% of our future subs please or start fixing these issues.
