For non weapons i suggest:
2 Support Generators on EVERY ship As many Batteries/Cells as you can fit ECM, ECCM, Sensor Array Combat/Deflection Drive
Engines, Shields, Weapon Generator and Flak systems should be standard
If you get VERY stuck on Sneaking ill be happy to make a video and upload onto youtube. Ive also got videos of other missions (only the 'interesting' ones atm )
Try and update these at every possible moment, they are just as important as your weapons. 2 Support Generators and batteries/cells give you a bigger and faster recharging energy reserve and most of the missions having subsystems on +150-200-250% is usually the difference between winning and losing.

Been following this thread with some interest. Is the game good? I think I saw this game on the shelves in my local game store, so I just wanted to know if it is worth the money?

Yes, it's good. Real-Time Tactics with awsome graphics.
It only costs 10 euros on Steam, or IRRC it's 10 dollars if you're in the USA.

There's stealth missions?
I'm terrible at stealth missions, just killed everything in sight in Splinter Cell.

The first part of the mission is almost harder then the final mission. Good luck Mitnal, you will need it.
Edit: The Stealth Mission is not that hard. If I recall right, just watch your decloak timer and use the Nav Points to evade the Patrols. You will have to near the marked radioactive? Asteroids when your Cloak deactivates for a few seconds to stay undetected.

Hmm I think ill have to do a video for Sneaking, I tried several different routes but there is one that for me has the highest 'percentage' of not being caught but it be better to show then to explain. Ill have it on youtube by tomorrow

Edited by: Lewyrus on 14/04/2009 22:12:12 "Sneaking" is where you navigate in an asteroid field with only the Angelwing, and a cloak timer. You can, however "rest" at the navigation points, to regain cloak. If you deactivate the cloak, it will reactivate in about 20 secs, and it's 5 minute cloak timer will be refilled.
"Titan" is the two-part mission, where first you're supposed to sneak near a Gorg battlestation and destroy an ip blocker. I said supposed, because all I ever do, is launch the gunboats and let them do the job. Sneak parts skipped. If you you think it's an easy mission (you won't) try to finish the mission before the Balthazar is evacuated (did this on pro today). Not a terribly hard mission, just the Battleships are a little fragile. Deplete the fort shield fast.
The third sneaky mission ("Peace Negotiations") is when you meet a Gorg battleship in the coma of a comet. Fortuneatly, it's easy to make due until backup arrives.
The fourth sneaky mission ("Blockade Breakers") will be easy.
Personally I think stealth is well designed, but somewhat poorly executed or perhaps poorly balanced. Most modules have two emission ratings, witch contributes to the decetion of said module and the detection of the ship when said modules are activated; the sensor modules are designed to pick up these emissions, but all ships have basic, unmodular sensors as well.

Thats the 'Titan' mission. Its the most frustrating mission in the whole game, IMO. But if you're REALLY lucky, the Gorg Siege laser misses Norbank's battleship and you dont have to do anything.

Yep patched to 1.01, also allows for save games in First Blood.
Not sure if I patched or if it came as 1.01 when I bought it.

Replayed First Blood.
Took down all but the battlecruiser with NO losses \o/
I had a saved game from where I was closing in on the second destroyer, took him out and in the time it took to activate the IP drives, I managed to swarm and just take out the battleship.
Clearly going for a cruiser first was key to this, as was the ship set-ups. I learned how to balance the tanking, the smaller ships can stay out of the shield and annoy the Gorgs and the Angelwing and Avalanche can pop in and out of the shield to rest then come out firing missiles.
I didn't have the target data to attack the IP drives but the big difference in taking down the ships was the use of fighters/gunships they really speed things up, especially against ships with no shields. I think I used them well, first attacking the last cruiser to keep it busy then pounding the battleship.

You should cripple their Energy Cells Mitnal, they don't last much longer without any energy to fuel the dakka. Especially when they just lie there, crippled in space... slowly rotating... oxygen levels running out...

I used a modified version of this:
Mitnal:
Once the shield is up the gorgs retreat to a safe distance to use the seige laser, i generally dont remain within the shield for very long as i pursue them with all haste.
I shot the EM bomb directly at one of the escort cruisers, it takes out like 80% of its shields and then with a coordinated focus fire from the fleet it shield and then hull gets destroyed quickly.
If your lucky when the fort-shield goes up youll catch a gorg within and with focused fire and without shields it goes down quick aswell.
As you saw i lost one of the frigates, those really are insignificant and as you dont keep these ships (there for that mission only) they are expendable and better have the gorgs focus on them than your main ships.
One of my personal preferences, i dont like my fighters getting shot down so i use them sparingly in engagements.
Alwas fit the best equipment you can. For that mission my loadouts were as follows:
Angelwing 2 Bubble ES 2 Particle GG Overload BS Neutron HT 2 Spark Fighters
Sparta 1 Energy Shell 2 Silver GG 2 Spark Fighters
Brutus 2 Energy Shells 1 Silver GG 1 Spark Fighter
I believe I went two gunships not two sparks on the Angelwing.
What is critical is bombing the cruiser asap. Then swarm it, by the time you kill the cruiser, the first destroyer should be getting attacked by the supply ship. You can help finish it off or charge the bomb again and go after the second destroyer. Try not to bomb the destroyer when your small ships are attacking it
Use the Avalanche and Angelwing at a reasonable distance and wear down the second destroyer with the torpedoes that fire through the shield, once the shields are down you can take it out pretty quickly.
Once you get the third ship down the last two will IP jump out, it's possible to kill one of the battlecruiser or the battleship but not both unless you can destroy their IP drives.
I found that unleashing fighters helped take down the last big ship.

ah now i remember how it's played
just scary, how much luck is involved 8[
once i figured out they love to primary the little... what was it... thunder? anyways, just park him inside the shield. overload the brutus' shields here and there if rudolph finds himself too far ahead again.
after you whacked the first one, your fortress deploys. whack another destroyer/corvette... whatever the smaller ones are. then send gunboats after another one's IP drive. work the last dessy/corv's shield yourself with shells, then ruin its ip drive aswell. once the drives are down, just pop the biggest one and hope you're in time -.- voila, 100% k/d
for the stupid titan mission, i (eventually) chose 3 particle + 3 light lasers for the sneaky part. remember to disable the fortress right after the blocker - while you are there -.- for the other duo, i picked shells as far as possible to remove the shields in the siege guy. the aforementioned light lasers then finish off the subsys nicely. again, it was close but the balthasar managed to survive, even though the general had gone on vacation already. i sent the tiny ships home with their ip drives; they manage to get wept away by the titan's explosion somehow.
generally i prefer the "focus" setting; when overloading my guns, i want my commands to use up all the batteries - not some (relatively) wasted shell shots on another ship while im hull mining right here. i dont (really) see the point in fighters. sure, they do some stuff the gunboats kinda suck at, but still... - putting the gist back into logistics |

I see what you mean about the Titan mission, only tried it once but it didn't end prettily.
I think I did the sneak mission on my fourth go, I had a few problems with the destroyer between nav 3 and nav 7, once I timed it it was fine.
