I iz stuck.
I'm using GameFaq 1
FAQ 2
and Game Faq 3
And I'm still stuck on the First Blood mission. I have two shield bombs so I can take down the two destroyers pretty quickly. Then I tend to screw it up. The two destroyers you get in the mission have a tendency to wander off and die, which is a bit of a blow as they're additions to your fleet.
Other than that I don't come close to taking the cruisers or battleship and eventually they take down the supply ship you're meant to be guarding.
As far as I can see it I have three options:
1. Concentrate all fire on the escort cruiser and try and bring it down. 2. Take out the capital ship flak guns and then use fighters (difficult as I am top heavy with hull guns) 3. Try and take out the shield laser (see 2).
Any advice gratefully taken and yes, the game is recommended.

My only advice is that ccp should buy the rights and make a wtf pwn online rts from the engine being developed for the sequal.
Think bf2 ctf 60players 1 ship each. = instant win.

It's been a while since I played and every time I do, I try to play a different way. I had to go read what the mission entailed. But I think that last time I did it I tried something like this...
Hide in the fort shield. Use your Energy Bubbles since they're fairly long range. Once a ships shields go down, use torpedoes on them. They have very limited ammo, but they hit HARD. The idea behind this is that you can fight almost entirely from inside the fort shield because your bubbles and torpedoes have such huge ranges. The other possibility is loading up on the smaller guns and bubbles. But then, you have to leave the shield to do any real harm.
If you try to go straight for the siege laser, you'll probably die fairly quickly. But each time you kill a cruiser that is helping with the siege laser, you buy yourself a bit of time.
Oh yeah, make sure to launch ALL your fighters, blob them up around the support ship and send them in a giant wave. You'll lose more than you like, but you can use them like a scalpel to cut a "problem" away. |

Edited by: Gambit Stryder on 07/04/2009 12:57:45 It's been awhile since I played Nexus.
But if I remember correctly, what I did was zerg rushed the battleship with gunboats and had them all focus fire on that siege laser (ignore the flak guns, you WILL lose most of those gunboats, but at least that laser is taken care of). Use fighters and bombers to screen them.
If your ships tend to wander outside of the fortress shield, put them on passive and order them to guard the support ship.
Also, use lots of artillery so you can fire while in the shield, but be careful using missiles when your gunboats are out and about because they'll all get instapopped (I don't think shield bombs affect them, fortunately).
Edit: Genei beat me to it (kinda).

Oh boy, that mission is indeed one of the toughest I can remember. Took me 4 or 5 attempts to get through it.
I think if you let the destroyers "guard" your Cruiser they'll stick close to it and should be fine. You'll be relying a lot on manual control for the guns though.
I'm not sure if the following is the right way to do things, but it may work. (I love taking apart subsystems, I rarely destroy ships, they tend to end up disabled instead )
Basically you want to disable the battleship ASAP. Give everything anti-subsystem guns if you can and nuke its engines. Especially the little destroyers with Combat Engines are lethal here, they make awesome subsystem snipers due to their agility.
If it can't close range it can't hit the shield generator ship. Use one of the shield-bombs to drop its shield for easier acces to the subsystems. Once it is immobile you can start picking off ships that are getting uncomfortable close to the support ship.

Avalanche: 4 elim torps and 2 energy shells
Angelwing: Drop the datascanner on the angel wing and fit 2 magma PG (or whatever the ones you have are), and 3 energy shell.
Sparta: Full compliment of heavy lasers (whitelight/burningfist or whatever are available)
Brutus: Full compliment of light lasers (crystalpin or whatever level ones you have).
Tactic: initially hold in the fort shield, with all fighters deployed guarding the station, wait for the first enemy ship to breach the shield and light it up with the torps of the avalanche and the pg on the angelwing.
While you do this, move them to the edge of the shield nearest the enemy and designate a medium sized ship as the target of the energy shells (their shields should not be at maximum so it should be possible to have broken it by the time you have blown up the small ship), don't forget to overload weapons on avalanche and angelwing, and shields on brutus/sparta.
While the cruisers kill the medium sized ship, send the destroyers to engage the other small enemy, focussing on disabling shields and weapons generator (these should be your first targets always when using lasers).
The siege laser should now be trying to assemble, you have 2 choices:
1) send the cruisers to kill the shields on the BS and the destroyers/fighters to kill its IP drive, rinse repeat on all enemy ships disabling IP drives before weapons (though if the fort shield is getting too heavily pounded kill off the battleship's weapongen). The goal here is to kill them all
2) Kill the smallest ships comprising the laser so the others try to run, try and use lasers/fighters to disable the ip drives when they try to retreat.

Which is why the sub-system disabling lasers are so great. Most lasers punch right through shields and taking out the shield-generators is generally a lot easier.

Cheers for the advice so far.
Last night I tried a different way which was to hide near the supply ship and use the bombs. This went spectacularly wrong when the enemy just focussed on the supply ship and I had one destroyer down and the other on zero shields when the supply ship went boom.
Epic loss.
New tactics will be tried later today.
I do like the idea of being surgical and iirc the lazers have a decent range, plus I get to shout "Imma firin ma lazers" at the top of my voice. However, I'm pretty top heavy with hull weapons on Angelwing and the destroyers have a lot of lazers, not sure about the other two ships in the fleet (happy to sacrifice the heavy cruiser).
One point is that if you don't disable the IP drives, once you've taken out the two destroyers and a cruiser/the siege lazer, the remaining cruisers & battleship will most likely warp out.

Use the same tactic people in EVE use near POS shields
Keep all your ships near the edge. Overheat your "turret" weapons, hold the ammo-using ones. Peek out of the shield whenever any of their ships come a bit closer, make some fast overkills, dive back into the shield. Repeat until most support is gone OR until they start forming up for their fort-shield-busting beam, in case you make a run for it and give it all you've got, all guns blazing.
Of course, it can work "honestly" too, as long as you ignore the "get behind the fort shield" recommendation from the NPCs. They do say that, don't they ? It's been a while since I played it...

Doesnt work, the gorgs retreat to outside your range and then form a seige laser which is very bad. You have to leave the fort shield to do the mission

I believe from the people here that you are talking of the mission where your in the fortshield and the gorgs attack...
I would recommend getting rid of the ebombs, and sticking with conventional weapons (ie the best bubble shell and gatling gun thingies). Your ships can fire out of the shield, but theirs cant shoot into the shield at you. Lasers are all fine and dandy, but they lack stopping power. I assume if you really wanted to, you could destroy their engines, and that should stop them from forming their siege formation.
I personally ignore the frigates most of the time, you get them back in their basic form at the beginning of each mission, and tbh i never saw them as very useful.
one of your guides mentions that an easy way to get rid of them is to go with lasers or gunships and blast away the siege laser, after that thsy should all jump out. considering the number of lasers you could fit on your ships, it might be a good idea.
If I am not mistaken, an ebomb will break apart their formation if they are trying to get into siege laser formation, so you could keep them almost indefinitely split apart with that.
*shrug* i just usually go in guns blasting and take them out one by one, ducking behind the fortshield if i need to.

Seriously though, watch my vid, kit ya ships out how ive suggested and ull do fine. And ignore the guy above me, try and keep the ships under your permanent command (ie Brutus/Sparta/Avalanche/Guardian) in one peice, having them die will result in difficulties down the line as its all about the resource points, the longer you have those ships, the more resource points ull get, the better equipment you can stick on them. As replaced ships come with basic fittings and the amount of cumulative resource points that ship will have will be lower and so you wont be able to pimp it out.
And trust me, with the later missions pimpimg your ships out matters very much so. Also all the ships are important and kitting them out with the best stuff (not to mention the crew experience) will do wonders for you. The destroyers have very useful and can be the difference between losing and winning.

erm. I have never seen a difference in the number of resource points I get as to how long a ship has been around.
You will note that the engineering skill of all parties on the ship is taken into effect, as well as a few modifiers based on the mission... But I have seen no correlation between the time each ship survives and the resource points.
As well, nothing I have read on the nexus modding forums says anything about it either (and trust me, i was really into modding nexus back then).
one thing I will give you is that the equipment you have on them gets destroyed... but tbh I never found the smaller ships of any use in the missions, and at most only because one of them had a laser permanently attached and the other a datascanner.

OK replayed it last night.
Fit: Angelwing: - 2x Magma Guns - 2x Particle Gatling Gun [if available] - 1x Sliver Gatling Gun [2 ix only 1 Particle, 3 if no particles available] - 2x Sickle Gunboat Squadron
Sparta: - 2x Energy Shell - 1x Bubble Energy Shell - 1x Sickle Gunboat Squadron
Brutus: - 2x Bubble Energy Shell - 1x Energy Shell - 1x Sickle Gunboat Squadron
The real problem I found in this mission was being unable to kill them fast enough, largely due to the shields on the cruisers. However, with this setup, and as long as you can keep the Avalanche intact, you will completely rip up the shields on any of the Gorg ships, even the Valiant [Battleship]. Stay inside or around the fortress shield until they start moving away from it, and pick off the two destroyers. With that kind of dps it should be easy. Then ignore the cruisers and go straight for the Valiant - it's less stuff to kill and actually has pretty weak shields and armour. Expect to lose at least one frigate and possibly one of the destroyers in this attack.
Whilst doing this, you should also deploy all Sickle squadrons on one of the cruisers to nerf it's capabilities - it will reduce the chances of you losing a ship.
And remember, you get any ship that isn't the Angelwing back later if it gets destroyed, so don't worry if you do lose the Sparta or Brutus. -----

That is a terrible config
Ignoring fighters, where 2 of the smaller fighters > 1 corvette squadron on the destroyers, the angelwing should have mainly anti shield weaponry (I go for 3 shell 2 magma pg), reason being that the avalanche gets a torpedo and missile capacity bonus, so should have 4 eliminator torpedos (best cost/damage ratio vs hull ingame AND only need a small slot) and 2 energy shells. You never run out in any mission as you have an absurd number of them (unless you do something stupid like use them against shield).
The destroyers are useless as brawlers, they can't effect enough on their own, so you fit them for anti module, this way you can have 2 targets being attacked simultaneously; one directly with cruisers, the other tactically with destroyers).
If you are happy to lose a ship your tactics need some work, I completed the entire game on hard without losing a ship (though I did have to replay a few missions a few times to get them right).
As I and others have mentioned, manual control is essential, especially manual activation of guns that otherwise stay silent, and overheating weapons (particularly on the angelwing) is crucial.
Overheating shields just before you leave the fortress shield so that as you breach they go up fast is another useful tactic in this mission, combine this with getting to the enemy before their shields are up fully, and it should be a cinch.
[all of this can be applied in my walkthrough above ]

Still haven't cracked this.
I've watched the video and it only seems to be when the shield goes up that your ships are within the shield.
I can take out the first destroyer fairly well but have difficulties on the second, I get his shields down but can't finish him off. In the video you go for the escort cruiser next and tbh I'm not sure how his shields are so far down, was it a shot by the bomb that took him too.
Next tactic is to go for the far destroyer first, the closer one should be easier to finish off or I'll go for the escort cruiser.
Whatever the problem, charging out of the shield with 4 enemy ships left not 3 guarantees small ship death.
I also noticed you didn't use the fighters until at least 2 ships were down.
Current loadout:
AngelWing
2 Energy Shells (have tried bubbles too) 2 Gatling (have tried the Sliver and the harder ones) 2 bombs 1 torpedo 2 gunboat squadrons Plasmastream engine Advanced Sensors
Brutus/Sparta
1 x Energy bubble 2 x Sliver gatling 2 x fighters Deflection engine Secondary Firecloud Generator + other generator Electron Cell
Other ships - didn't realise you could change their loadout.
tbh It's quite possible I'm taking too long to go through hulls because of a lack of power in the weapons, despite focus firing, although the first destroyer tends to go down quick.

I do remember that mission. Great fun was had.
Had to play it several times until I found a stategy that worked.
In short: Destroy enough ships to disable the Siege laser. Bring out all guns to achieve this! With that accomplished it means that you can sneak back into the Fortress Shield if things get too hot.
Recharge your ships shields and commence hit and run attacks on the gorgs. Sooner or later they will crumble.

Do not forget about Gunboats during this Missions. They are very effective in disabling the Subsystems of enemy Ships. Also use the Shield-Bubble to your advantage with hit and run tactics. Move out of your Shield to engage on Hostile at a time, then move them back in, when they take too much damage.

Mitnal:
Once the shield is up the gorgs retreat to a safe distance to use the seige laser, i generally dont remain within the shield for very long as i pursue them with all haste.
I shot the EM bomb directly at one of the escort cruisers, it takes out like 80% of its shields and then with a coordinated focus fire from the fleet it shield and then hull gets destroyed quickly.
If your lucky when the fort-shield goes up youll catch a gorg within and with focused fire and without shields it goes down quick aswell.
As you saw i lost one of the frigates, those really are insignificant and as you dont keep these ships (there for that mission only) they are expendable and better have the gorgs focus on them than your main ships.
One of my personal preferences, i dont like my fighters getting shot down so i use them sparingly in engagements.
Alwas fit the best equipment you can. For that mission my loadouts were as follows:
Angelwing 2 Bubble ES 2 Particle GG Overload BS Neutron HT 2 Spark Fighters
Sparta 1 Energy Shell 2 Silver GG 2 Spark Fighters
Brutus 2 Energy Shells 1 Silver GG 1 Spark Fighter

Nowhere near a challenging mission :)
Note: I use manual control on all ships during this mission.
Destroyers: 2 lights and one heavy laser, ECM and deflection engine (they work together), fusion gens, energy cells, fighters (if you can afford them). Angelwing: 4 bubbles, 2 plasmas, ECM and combat engines, extra generators, energy cells, gunboats. Alternative could be 4 heavy lasers instead of the bubbles (read on).
Feature: if you want to fit 4 pcs. of Module X on Angelwing, but there are only 3, don't panic. Fit thoose three and click the "confirm" button, and lo! You have recieved one unit of Module X! This is, in fact, not a bug. Backstory tells that the Angelwing "assimilates" foreign techonolgy to recreate it's own version of it. The sample equipment is found disassembled. Well, okay, it's a little buggy that you can only duplicate when you reached 0 pcs.
Now, to the mission;
At the start, the Gorgs rushing your position, you can take down one of their destroyers with your cruisers before it's shields are raised (you could try one of their cruisers too). The second target should be the other dessie, because of it's low shields.
Their big ships often target your dessies. The torpedos can damage the hull, even if the target is at full shield. If one of the dessies or frigs is beeing attacked, give support systems and engines 300% energy, and switch off sensors; this will extend said ship's timeframe outside the fort shield, but eventually they going to take damage, then you should switch to primary engines and burn back to safety. Do it when shields are about 15-20%.
I usually don't worry about the frigs, they can die, as only the dessies and Angelwing are the ships you will carry on to next mission (as of now). Use the time they buy for your other ships.
If you fit bubbles on Angelwing, then gradually deplete the Gorg battleship's and cruiser's shield and start taking down their subsystems. Primary should be torpedoes, energy shells and the siege laser. Also, taking down the engines is easy, and if you do, they won't provide dodge bonus for them. Alternative targets are the shield and weapon generators, former will disable the shield, latter will disable all weapons. Problem is, they only attackable from a small angle, and if they keep moving, it will be hard.
If you fit heavy lasers on Angelwing, then just go for subsystems. Heavy lasers will penetrate shields.
ECM and combat/deflection engines provide dodge bonus on your ships, their subsystems and hull will be harder to attack.
Lasers are better on smaller ships (than the target), because they can dance around bigger ones with ease. Subsystems can only be attacked from a certian angle.
Some information can be learned if you take some time to read the mod documentation, but it'll tempt you to mod the game itself.
There will be a similar mission later in the story, good luck for that.
And play Mechcommander Gold. Too.

Thanks again, still being playing, still can't set up right.
I can down the first destroyer, Sting, fairly quickly. Then it's a problem with target allocation - I can take out the shields of the second destroyer and have come close to taking it out but failed. On one occasion I managed to get the escort cruiser into red hull but somehow the crew didn't bail and when it got its shields back that was that.
The main problem I seem to have is following the first ship. I'd read but hadn't registered the fact that the torps could go through shields, that would clearly help finish off which ship went second.
Generally the main problem I have is totally forgetting whichever boost to use, either I'll forget at mission beginning and not use weapon boost or I'll forget later on and not use shield.
I'd thought of luring the Gorgs further in but it seems once you kill the first destroyer, the shields go up and they turn and run and I'm lucky if the cruisers get within 10000 of my fleet.

Try Cruiser 2Xplasma weapons 2Xshield weapons 2Xarmour weapons Destroyer 1Xplasma weapons 1Xshield weapons 1Xarmour weapons your weapon generators can only fire (3xcruiser, 2xdestroyer) so many weapons at a time so distribute shield/armour weapons amongst your ships as many gunboats as pos then focus fire in order frig 1, frig 2, cruiser 1, cruiser 2, battleship while that is happening use gunboats to take out flak guns on battleship and cruiser 2 then take out ip drives (so you get the bonus), pad out your gunboat fleet with fighters if you have spare capacity (so less gunboats get killed). Just a few thing to consider: Weapon loadout and general tactics apply to most non stealth missons As I remember mission 'difficulty' is randomly assigned at the start of every mission so try restarting it if its too hard. If a ship dies restart the mission PLASMA WEAPONS FTW. Also anti module weapons would make an excellent addition to EVE

Foolish no, frustrated yes.
I've actually saved four different set ups and am trying them out. To me this seems like a mission for micro-management but your video has you mainly F5 and F7ing so that added to the confusion. The lazer experiment was one big fail, either I didn't have the sensors or the scanning by the Brutus didn't work as I didn't get to see alot of the subsystems, nor did I get close enough to do so.
Seems to me that whatever tactics I'm using on this hinge on taking out the second destroyer without losing all that many ships myself (read any). This would allow us to rush the cruisers/battleship. Is it possible to stay behind the shields and torpedo the second destroyer? Generally by this time the three ships are forming the siege lazer so I have to rush them and try and finish off the second destroyer at the same time.
I'm quite happy to expend any fighters/gunships I have but I'm so slow in getting subsystem info that they really end up going on suicide runs. They haven't made much of a difference, although I think the time I got the escort cruiser in trouble was when I sent them against the cruiser first.
Is a diffuse missile launcher worth it in this mission? That was my tactical thought yesterday evening. One bomb, one diffuse launcher.

Edited by: Legionos McGuiros on 13/04/2009 18:47:37 Tbh the mission is trivial enough that you dont need to micro-manage as much, when a ship of yours is under attack boosting its shield by 50% power is enough to keep it going (you dont want to give it a full power boost for too long as it drains the batteries to a point it will take them awhile to recover). Other than that you can leave the ships on semi-autonomous and they will assign weapons when they see fit but will also follow your commands.
Its largely about timing, a well place EM Bomb shot executed with a coordinated strike from your fleet can take out a gorg ship (including the cruiser) quickly, i suggest going for the cruiser first and a well place EM bomb (ie directly on it) will take a large portio of its shield out.
The human lasers are quite ineefective and especially in the later missions when you afce other ships (i wont spoil it) they are even worse. Ghost lasers however are very good but ill let you figure out how to acquire them
I wouldnt reccomend missiles, powerful yes but unlike torpedoes they can be shot down by enemy fighters and flak systems.

Yes, I made it run now, although just with the latest patch. There also was a problem where I had to manually enter my serial number into the registry. Ah, and starting the game is only possible if you run it as an administrator, else it will ctd after the intro movie.

What difficulty did you begin?
Do you use the F1-F12 keys or you micro every ship? I recommend latter and pausing like crazy.
For subsystem info, I'd recommend putting one sensor on every ship, and using them all the time. Do not use the datascanner in combat, dropping the shield will get that ship primaried. Missiles are worthless IMO.
I started the game on Hard, I'm thinkin' of making a vid for this.

I've tried both F2-12 and micro-managing, micro-managing I think generally got me further but the vid only had F2-12 on it.
I know one of the original and better FAQs recommends an advanced sensor on the Angelwing. Generally I've used that but moved onto other set ups now

If you use my config, a few tips (as I remember them )
1) keep the brutus a bit back till the enemy pick a target (once you are sallying out of the fortshield), then turn shields off and use datascanner to get subsystem info on the ships (it gets it really fast), while doing this, have the shield on 50% overboost recharging, so you don't have shields down for too long.
2) You should have 2 groups; the 2 destroyers, and the 2 cruisers with the 2 frigates (which will probably die, I think I lost one of them).
3) You should be able to shoot one of the gorg cruisers after killing the destroyer (with my config and having manually told all the ships to charge weapons up prior to combat, it should take 2 volleys of torps from avalanche). It should be just outside the shield, and while you set hull damaging weapons onto the destroyer, shield damaging ones should go onto this so that it is broken ready to turn the torps onto as soon as the destroyer is down.
I would make a vid, but my computer can't handle fraps.

All I remember is that the key to that mission is the siege laser. If you can destroy that then you should be able to destroy the rest of the ships at your own leisure from behind the shields.
I seem to remember dragging ships into the fortshield where they would die very quickly (because you have no shields when inside the fortshield)

Is there a way to drag ships in, or method to do so? Generally what happens is the first destroyer suicides itself and ends up within the shield. It dies either by your fire or the supply ship or a combination of both.
The four remaining ships then high tail it out of there and move to a safe distance to start up the siege lazer.

It's been a long time, so maybe I'm remembering that suicidal destroyer when I thought of "dragging" ships in. The other thing that I remember (IIRC) is breaking up the siege laser formation by leaving the shield temporarily and doing something. I keep wanting to say "bump them", but that's probably from EVE, and not from Nexus . But there's a variety of ways to break the siege laser that I remember:
1) destroy enough of the support ships powering the siege laser (the siege laser needs at least 2 additional support ships to power the laser from what I remember) 2) Destroy the siege laser itself with lasers and those bomber strikecraft. I think they were called reapers?
This is some of the shaky stuff that I might not be remembering correctly 3) moving into a strange position where their weapons can't reach you easily. In order for their weapons to hit you, they have to move their ship which will break the siege laser formation. This works because of how the weapon systems in Nexus will only fire if they have a clear shot at their target. IE, if you are on the port side of an enemy ship, only the weapons on the port side will be able to fire at you, while the weapons on the starboard will do nothing. The idea then is to place your ship in a location where most of their weapons can't hit you unless the ship moves. The ship moves means the formation gets broken, which buys you some time. 4) "baiting" the ships with a juicy target to shoot at. I can't remember if the AI has the siege laser formation focus entirely on the fort shield or not, but I seem to remember that the AI can be distracted by you leaving the fort shield. If they DO focus entirely on the fort shield, perhaps you can take advantage of this and maneuver to a location where you can destroy the ships without them being able to use all of their weapons?
Just remember that anytime you leave the fortshield to pause the game and put any ships outside of the fortshield at maxmimum shield boosting. Hope this helps. I remember having some difficulty with that mission, and I think that was on normal difficulty too... But then again, I'm a purist and I REFUSED to let any of my ships die.

Isn't it typical?
I had a set-up which I believe is from Legionos McGuiros which left me with 14 resource points to play with.
So I alt tabbed out of the game to see if I had the setup right - I'm still mystified about what non weapons to fit.
Anyway, this try I decided I'd focus entirely on the escort cruiser. One nice bomb shot and a couple of other strikes and it had lost its shields and it went down REAL quick. Not sure if I got some good torp shots off or if it was the more anti hull Angelwing but damn did it go down. About the same time the first destroyer dies, I'm assuming the supply ship got it.
Now I can't save the game as I'd love to at this time because of the alt tabbing (not sure why this stops save games but there you go). I have one frigate outside the shield and most ships on its border. The second destroyer has maybe 10-15% of its shield left so I decide to focus fire on that, sadly I could have saved the second bomb shot that went for the Pride again even when it was half hull.
So as I'm contemplating at least completing the mission, with the second destroyer having no shields, Angelwing pokes its head out of the fortress shield and within maybe 5 seconds it was game over.
I can only assume the battleship and battlecruiser focused fire on the Angelwing, not sure why they did or why I didn't have any shields as I'd clicked on shield boost but I managed to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory, again

AT LAST!
Restarted the game, again focussed on the Pride, down it went, bit harder this time but the bomb shot wasn't as good.
Left the supply ship and cruiser to deal with the destroyer that ends up in the fortress shield. This time as the Angelwing was being attacked I ran inside the fortress shield, leaving the four small ships out and closing on the last destroyer, took out its shields and actually got it down. I sent all the squadrons against the battlecruiser and didn't really do much, although I guess I distracted it.
Sadly just as we were winning, the two destroyers died so I might well go back and fiddle around with First Blood but I can say I've completed it now

For non weapons i suggest:
2 Support Generators on EVERY ship As many Batteries/Cells as you can fit ECM, ECCM, Sensor Array Combat/Deflection Drive
Engines, Shields, Weapon Generator and Flak systems should be standard
If you get VERY stuck on Sneaking ill be happy to make a video and upload onto youtube. Ive also got videos of other missions (only the 'interesting' ones atm )
Try and update these at every possible moment, they are just as important as your weapons. 2 Support Generators and batteries/cells give you a bigger and faster recharging energy reserve and most of the missions having subsystems on +150-200-250% is usually the difference between winning and losing.

Edited by: Lewyrus on 14/04/2009 22:12:12 "Sneaking" is where you navigate in an asteroid field with only the Angelwing, and a cloak timer. You can, however "rest" at the navigation points, to regain cloak. If you deactivate the cloak, it will reactivate in about 20 secs, and it's 5 minute cloak timer will be refilled.
"Titan" is the two-part mission, where first you're supposed to sneak near a Gorg battlestation and destroy an ip blocker. I said supposed, because all I ever do, is launch the gunboats and let them do the job. Sneak parts skipped. If you you think it's an easy mission (you won't) try to finish the mission before the Balthazar is evacuated (did this on pro today). Not a terribly hard mission, just the Battleships are a little fragile. Deplete the fort shield fast.
The third sneaky mission ("Peace Negotiations") is when you meet a Gorg battleship in the coma of a comet. Fortuneatly, it's easy to make due until backup arrives.
The fourth sneaky mission ("Blockade Breakers") will be easy.
Personally I think stealth is well designed, but somewhat poorly executed or perhaps poorly balanced. Most modules have two emission ratings, witch contributes to the decetion of said module and the detection of the ship when said modules are activated; the sensor modules are designed to pick up these emissions, but all ships have basic, unmodular sensors as well.

Thats the 'Titan' mission. Its the most frustrating mission in the whole game, IMO. But if you're REALLY lucky, the Gorg Siege laser misses Norbank's battleship and you dont have to do anything.

Replayed First Blood.
Took down all but the battlecruiser with NO losses \o/
I had a saved game from where I was closing in on the second destroyer, took him out and in the time it took to activate the IP drives, I managed to swarm and just take out the battleship.
Clearly going for a cruiser first was key to this, as was the ship set-ups. I learned how to balance the tanking, the smaller ships can stay out of the shield and annoy the Gorgs and the Angelwing and Avalanche can pop in and out of the shield to rest then come out firing missiles.
I didn't have the target data to attack the IP drives but the big difference in taking down the ships was the use of fighters/gunships they really speed things up, especially against ships with no shields. I think I used them well, first attacking the last cruiser to keep it busy then pounding the battleship.

I used a modified version of this:
I believe I went two gunships not two sparks on the Angelwing.
What is critical is bombing the cruiser asap. Then swarm it, by the time you kill the cruiser, the first destroyer should be getting attacked by the supply ship. You can help finish it off or charge the bomb again and go after the second destroyer. Try not to bomb the destroyer when your small ships are attacking it
Use the Avalanche and Angelwing at a reasonable distance and wear down the second destroyer with the torpedoes that fire through the shield, once the shields are down you can take it out pretty quickly.
Once you get the third ship down the last two will IP jump out, it's possible to kill one of the battlecruiser or the battleship but not both unless you can destroy their IP drives.
I found that unleashing fighters helped take down the last big ship.

ah now i remember how it's played
just scary, how much luck is involved 8[
once i figured out they love to primary the little... what was it... thunder? anyways, just park him inside the shield. overload the brutus' shields here and there if rudolph finds himself too far ahead again.
after you whacked the first one, your fortress deploys. whack another destroyer/corvette... whatever the smaller ones are. then send gunboats after another one's IP drive. work the last dessy/corv's shield yourself with shells, then ruin its ip drive aswell. once the drives are down, just pop the biggest one and hope you're in time -.- voila, 100% k/d
for the stupid titan mission, i (eventually) chose 3 particle + 3 light lasers for the sneaky part. remember to disable the fortress right after the blocker - while you are there -.- for the other duo, i picked shells as far as possible to remove the shields in the siege guy. the aforementioned light lasers then finish off the subsys nicely. again, it was close but the balthasar managed to survive, even though the general had gone on vacation already. i sent the tiny ships home with their ip drives; they manage to get wept away by the titan's explosion somehow.
generally i prefer the "focus" setting; when overloading my guns, i want my commands to use up all the batteries - not some (relatively) wasted shell shots on another ship while im hull mining right here. i dont (really) see the point in fighters. sure, they do some stuff the gunboats kinda suck at, but still... - putting the gist back into logistics |

I see what you mean about the Titan mission, only tried it once but it didn't end prettily.
I think I did the sneak mission on my fourth go, I had a few problems with the destroyer between nav 3 and nav 7, once I timed it it was fine.
