You don't need to be a jerk to think that another game would be more suited to the taste of players not liking non-consensual pvp, and to advise them on it.
CCP isn't going to change their game just because some want consensual pvp. So those wanting it will often be happier if they move on.

I for one do not prefer PVP but the economy, industrial and combat system (against NPC's) is fun.
Because you think the economy and industry aren't pvp?
As for npcing, it's a good income source, but not diversified enough what you could call that a decent end-game content. Eve just doesn't revolve around that.

You see, the forum is an extension of the mindset of the EVE player base. A mindset that says: -trust no one -be paranoid -pop or be popped -scam or be scammed -eat your young to survive
There is no peace in EVE. There is no living in EVE. Only survival.
It may as well be called HELL.
The conflict with the player base is that some expect the future to have an element of civility. While others expect the future to be Armageddon.
The problem is that the Armageddon crowd can make EVE more hellish do to game mechanics. While the "civilized" crowd can not succeed in making it more civil due to the same game mechanics.
Thus we have conflict.

Was just chatting to my cousin who plays WoW about why I stopped playing after completing the 25-man content at the start of LK. While I was doing this I logged into Eve and showed him the game which consisted of either sitting and shooting NPC's or sitting and mining roids for long periods of time. Naturally he wasn't hugely impressed and I doubt showing him spending ages wandering around in a gang looking for someone to kill or sitting at a gate waiting for some idiot to jump to their death would have filled him with excitement either.
We shared our mutual hatred of the ******s (Primarily the dps) that fill WoW (Given that most tanks and healers are relatively intellegent and capable players) and promptly forgot about Eve while chatting about the various times morons got themselves killed on simply boss fights.
Those that say 'go back to WoW' are deluding themselves that Eve offers some kind of superior existance to those that play WoW. Both have their ups and downs and after playing both I can say that WoW players whine far less about Eve (Assuming they've even heard about it) than Eve players whine about WoW. Seems to me to be evidence of some kind of inferiority complex. ----

Believe it or not, it's an aquired hatred, from numerous players who have come to EvE's forums over the years and stated how much better EvE could be if you just took out pvp, got rid of theft/scamming/ganking, and focused all the design team assets on PvE and missions.
After watching hundreds, if not thousands of these posts, fighting so hard to change a game that they don't even like on the most basic level, a game that you absolutely love? You kinda get a little bitter.
There's other reasons some of us dislike WoW, is from an MMO gamers perspective. I've played a lot of MMO's, and enjoy the genre a lot. But since WoW has come out, there hasn't been a game worth the harddrive space it's saved on, because they all use the exact same mechanics, the exact same math, the exact same class/race/role system. WoW brought 10 million single-player gamers into an MMO market, by making a single-player game that conveniently has other players in it.
If I never have to listen to the phrase "if this company wants more customers, it has to do such-and-such like WoW does", it wouldn't be a bad life by half.

Liking other games isn't hard at all. I like a lot of different (usually older) MMO's. Some of them are as different from EvE as you can possibly get.
The deal is, like a game for what it is. Don't try to turn it into some other game, unless that's the goal of the development group already (as CCP feels about ambulation and FPS planetary interaction, for instance).

WoW raiding is fun the first couple time your learning a dungeon/boss fight.
then you keep raiding the same dungeon over and over and over, so you can do what? oh that is right raid the next loot tier dungeon, then you get to have fun for a bit.
this was back when there were 40 man raids i quit a while before BC. you could run months and not complete a set, not because you did not have the dkp to win an item but because it would just not drop. after awhile u just do not care one way or another but after 2 months of 2 runs a week raids on ony and such after the initial runs where woo its a big dragon, ok lets learn where we have to be and what our jobs are stuff is over, and lets be honest most people get their strategies off the web it is not like they are discovering what to do on their own, it just teaching the guild how to run the strategies.
wow raiding is like like eve npc mission running when you start it is hard, then you learn how to do it (or look it up) eve your skills and gear get better as you go, wow your gear gets better as you go (sometimes). you just more people people involved that can skrew it up.
there is no difference in any wow characters stats from one character to the next within class/race, then you got pvp skill builds or pve skill builds or dps vs tank for wars and priests and such.
wow is a timesink with no real end game differences at all other than your class or expected role. the tiered loot system is just a treadmill. the only real point to it is to kick the crap out of people that got worse gear than you in pvp or battlegrounds. gear and class played more of a role in eve than actual skill.
lets look at battlegrounds a bit more? pre BC, you had to pvp every day all day pretty much to reach any rank above level 5, 4. (god the south park wow episode nailed it). never mind the fact that the horde made this nice little hack program so they got their whole guilds into battlegrounds, all in teamspeak or vent. while the alliance was a mish mash of whoever got thrown into the battle, hence more often that not alliance would get destroyed. wow epic good fun there huh?
and talking about wait time gate camping or roaming looking for targets? oh how many times did you have to sit in ironforge waiting hours 2 3 hours for a battleground to open up. lest you could dance or sit and drool on yourself for 2 or 3 hours. then if you got into a match with the horde using that hack you might as well just wait to lose, while alliance went to turtle in their base or ran around like chickens with their heads cut off. i would have rather them run around like headless chickens getting slaughtered because a 3 hour turtle scrum is about as fun as watching paint dry or mining in eve.
oh and there is nothing at risk than some gold to repair your junk if you die in WoW. no corpse recovery, no dropping loot, you just keep all your stuff pay a few coins all better.
eve you die your stuff is gone that stuff could be worth piles of cash, pvp actually means something in some places. your fighting for territory and power or out of sheer spite. but your fighting for something concrete not some made up ranking systems. and you got actual stuff at stake. territory, stuff and pride.
eve is not for everyone, it is not going to hold your hand. the devs dont care if you took a contract for 250 million when you were told it was 250k and lost a ton of cash for garbage. they do not care if some mean person in high sec caught you on autopilot and suicide ganked you. they do not care if someone that really does not like you brought 10 bs to shoot you dead at the cost of their own ships.
hence sometimes it good to tell them <--------wow is over that way, hello kitty online is -----------> that way, can i have yours stuff? k thx bye.

I've not seen that many 'lets make eve into WoW' but perhaps you've been around longer than me. Usually these are just the result of people coming from WoW and being a little taken a back by how vulnerable you are in Eve to the actions of others. Give them a few weeks and they'll soon feel silly for making posts demanding that the game be changed as I did after I'd had my first can flipped and lost a load of ore. Eventually I realised its just part of the risk vs gain aspect of the game I don't care anymore if my cans flipped when mining.
I share your view of the MMO market in that it seems all new MMO's seem to just copy WoW and then change it enough to look slightly original but just end up creating a really bad versiono of WoW. Its not Blizzards fault that they made a well designed game that appeals to millions or that other game developers are incapable of innovation to sink the MMO ship that is WoW. I suspect that WoW will only die when blizzard decides its time for it to die and had WoW 2 (Or something else like Starcraft MMO) on the shelves using the same interface but with a different world.
I tried Warhammer and it was plain aweful, ----

i know WoW has fixed some of the stuff since BC, or i hear at lest. that pvp ranking is no longer such a escalator that you no longer have to have no friends, job or family to get up past rank 4. that i guess i heard that bg waits are much shorter now days. and 20 man raids it is much easier to gear toons than it was.
still there is not a whole lot of point period to wow end game. there is nothing much at stake even if you are on a pvp server. you cant take ironforge, or orgarmmer(sp whatever the horde capitol was). hold enemy territory at all. just get better gear to stomp people in garbage gear.
one other big reason i like eve is well they don't charge you for expansions packs....ever..sofar. wow is up to what 4 expansions at 50 to 40 bucks a pop? how much uber uber l33t content do they add in standard free patches? i can't remember much at all. plus your paying your 15 a month sub. guess that does not cover the cost of real content development.
granted wow's expansions are generally alot smoother than ccp's lol but any inconvience in ccp's quality testing is made up by the fact hey i pay my 15 a month or buy gtcs and while major patches are generally a gamble how safe you are doing anything, i am not paying an extra 40 bucks for them. so what i gotta wait a few weeks for them to smooth the bugs out, good time to set a long skill and play something else for bit.
if people love WoW good for them, i played it my first time for like a month got a toon to max level quit. buddy talked me into playing it with him and joining our old AC guild on a new server, turned out our old guild master had turned into a bit of a jerk frrm our old mmo together. totally blowing off the fact i was a officer in our old guild that i ran the guild when he took breaks and never looked to stab him in the back by usurping his guild leadership. ran dungeons, organized events, kept the guild mansion payments up, kept the guild together and running smoothly. none of that mattered a bit when we caught up to them in wow.
so i joined what might be called the goons of our WoW server. :P a bunch of people that did not take the game too seriously. raids we filled with ball busting, people breaking out into song on vent, or cracking jokes. often spammed IF when we did a guild first, clearing all of bwl like our 3 try, etc. raided everything and were just working on aq40 when i was about done done with the gear chasing in wow.
and i probably played a month or two longer than i would have otherwise because of my guildies.

There's 'Lego World' or whatever.
What's bad, is that even being fully grown, I kinda wanna try that one. Too many lego's as a kid, I guess.
Prudence dictates that actually playing such a game would be a bad move.

i agree all the whiney whiners on eve just came from SWG
I would be proud to say I played SWG and never complained.
Star Wars Galaxies had it's ups and downs, but it's failures was as much (if not more) due to the SOE development companies mindset, as much as the players wants and desires.
CCP is just a little more concerned with their product than other development companies, or so I feel. Players have been requesting changes and mechanics for years, but as w-space is limited proof, those changed and updates are weighed against the long-term goals CCP developed for EvE years ago.
Some companies go into business for money and money alone. Others, because they have a product they want to produce.

my favorite was when I jumped into a 5 man gate camp, got ECM'ed instantly and webbed so I couldn't move and although I killed all the drones and an AF before I popped with a large smart bomb, was told quite clearly to 'come back when I knew how to pvp'.
Really still not aware of how to survive sort of out numbered, out classed gank a year later, so perhaps that guy was just being a 'jerk' to I guess?
Love it when people have no clue how dumb what they are saying to you in local is. Not sure what they are expecting you to do about it.
Personally, I just get into a new ship and go rat for an hour to pay for the last one lol.
I really don't care what people say, but I do remember corkers like that.
