I would be proud to say I played SWG and never complained.
Star Wars Galaxies had it's ups and downs, but it's failures was as much (if not more) due to the SOE development companies mindset, as much as the players wants and desires.
CCP is just a little more concerned with their product than other development companies, or so I feel. Players have been requesting changes and mechanics for years, but as w-space is limited proof, those changed and updates are weighed against the long-term goals CCP developed for EvE years ago.
Some companies go into business for money and money alone. Others, because they have a product they want to produce.
The massive land battles were real fun, I played post Trials of Obiwand expansion. Had a commando at lvl52, quit, canceled subscription. SOE kept billing me every 3 months for the next year, we ended up refuting every single one and deleting the credit card (to get a new one)

Love it when people have no clue how dumb what they are saying to you in local is. Not sure what they are expecting you to do about it.
Personally, I just get into a new ship and go rat for an hour to pay for the last one lol.
I really don't care what people say, but I do remember corkers like that.
There at least seem to be fewer of these sorts of idiots around, or I just hear about them less. I don't know which it is.
But there will always be people who (try to) make fun of you when you run from their gate camp in your industrial, as if it's a smart thing to fight back against a superior force in a non-combat ship (unless it's a battle badger).
But you've got the right attitude for how to handle them.
