Furthermore by continuing this discussion we detract from the real issue many of us are having with eve online, the lack of break between signature and post content. |

They can stick their 1 year subscription where the sun doesn't shine too, I can't afford that all in one go.

I hope Europeans and Americans get charged for their subscription in the same numbers in Rupees but with a dollar sign in front or something similar one day then they'll know how it feels.
At least World of Warcraft doesn't screw it's customers over.

ITT: 3rd party retailer discounting box-sets = CCP "screwing it's customers over".

Play just did what ShopTo did previously, stuck a game they have no prior selling data on for a price they figured was right - got bombarded with orders in no time at all and suddenly realised they could (should) try selling it for a higher price.

I feel totaly butsecksed. I orderd 26 for my little army of aco****s and Play.com just canceled my order and my account with them. All I can assume is they decided i was using a stolen card or somthing. Back to paying way to much to play this game again

Prices went right up all over play.com
I think they just adjusted demand based prices again.
But the responses to this by those posters above is just pure gold :)

It probably wouldn't be a good time to say that I got the last 3* boxes @ ú14.99 and they have (quite literally) just dropped through the letterbox then?
Next one to keep an eye on is Game. They will be dumping stock soon too I bet.
*tried for more but that was all they'd sell me at ú14.99.

You'll have to excuse me, I was mad as hell last night.
Oh by the way I actually only ordered two in the first place.
I imagine there may well be real "griefers" out there that brought hundreds though, possibly people who don't even play eve which is the real sad thing. Oh well that's capitalism.
I still stand by what I said though, I do think CCP screws its customers over.
Why do you think it was even worth their while to even sell the box retail at ú14.99? You do know that they had to make a deal with CCP to sell it in the first place?
It might be something to do with how much you get overcharged currency conversion wise as a UK customer.
Why can they afford to nock so much off if you go for a year instead of a months subscription?
At the end of the day they rip us off and they do it because they can.
World of Warcraft boxsets may be more expensive which I think is a good think as I consider it anti-metagamer, expensive to start up a 2nd account running with the box set prices, but of course Eve pretty much caters it's entire game mechanics and system to metagamers, because metagamers = moar subscriptions. WoW subs are about half Eves while at the same time needing far bigger servers.
Yet even some people who play WoW think it's overpriced and it's got nothing on Eve.
To add insult to injury you can play for free if you're a greedy CEO or a macro miner (WHO NEVER GET CAUGHT), pretty much anyone who doesn't have to do any work for 300 mill a month.
Basicly there's loads of ways Eve makes you feel like a mug for paying normal sub.
So I think I'll stick to only paying with isk in the future as I don't think it's worth my real money anymore.
if you disagree with me then you should probably post a response and stop reading my signature. |

I kinda agree but it's one of those things where there's not a lot you can do about it.
I said before how stupid I think it is that the retail boxed copy in this instance and previously actually costs less than buying a 60 day GTC digitally. I'm no tree hugging environmentalist but there's something wrong there when it's cheaper to buy something tangible than digitally. I've got 4 boxed copies now taking up space for no other reason than the fact the GTC they came with worked out cheaper to buy that way.
I guess ultimately CCP/Atari are really pushing for the retail market, and if Play et al were able to sell it for ú14.99 and still make a profit on them, it makes you wonder how much cheaper it could be.

what they have done is introduce this new game at a discount (they are covering the discount cost themselves as a loss leader).
bit silly that they didnt first check with CCP as to what the included GTC's go for or ask if they should levy a cap on the number of box sets they should sell to any one customer...
as to trying to buy x26 , that probably set off alarm bells as a possible trader looking to get cheap stock to sell on(which is why they deleted your accoount with them).
They probably got a tonne of emails and phone calls from CCP complaining about the absured prices and the flurry of interest it caused from all the bargin hunters on the forums.
seriously... dont expect the prices to be as low as they have gone again on any third party sales site. its guaranteed that CCP will be imposing some pretty stringent terms and conditions on any future sales of the box set
oh, ill be in touch regarding the used box set shortly |

First of all, CCP is not screwing directly their customers in this price thing. Atari is not to fault either. Play.com is the blame here. And as for them, there's no law in real life preventing shops for selling items below their "value" they could sell those boxes for 1 ú and neither ccp nor atari could do anything but watch and slap their hands to their foreheads.
But is that screwing? Well, if you calculate screwing as in paying more then making the product costs then yeah, you've been "screwed". Then again, being "screwed" couple dollars more for some online game is not as bad as being "screwed" each time you visit grocery store or anything where someone other then the product maker sells you the item. Buy GTC from Shattered Chrystal, the SC "screws" you for their piece. Buy/sub via ccp? CCP "screws" the extra that is left after paying monthly bills.
Buy plex/timecode with isk? Dont know how much you make isk/hour but comparing 20mil/hour of lvl 4's meaning 15 hours of "in-game work" and 3-5 hours rl work with min wage... yeah. Your choice but remember when you buy with isk the plex seller "screws" you to work for him at rl plex price / hours you needed to make isks for it. Using above lvl 4 example you become isk making drone(human macro/"chinese" isk farmer) for him with pay of 1.16 $ per hour.
So do you want to be "screwed" by ccp paying them 3-5 hour worth? Perhaps be "screwed" by SC and pay them 2 hour and ccp 1-3? Or do you want to become partially isk making drone and be "screwed" to work for 15 hours for some player, who has been "screwed" earlier by CCP or reseller.
All the same, in the end CCP gets money it's just matter whether or not they need to pay for third party. You just choose who you want to "screw" you. Also you can seek comfort that each penny that CCP (not third party seller) "screws" from you are used to pay dividends and develop their product further, share for third party are just used to pay dividends.
tl:dr Get a job, even min wage part-time weekend crap if you cant pay for Eve sub. Or become "chinese" isk farmer for some feudal plex-player lord.

Originally by: Malcanis I have 4 box sets. I'll be pulling out the GTCs and giving the 4 boxes with the CDs in to 4 different charity shops. Who knows...
You would get far less karmic debt if you just microwaved the CDs. Anyone trying to install from those CDs will still wind up downloading over 2.5 gigabytes of eve client "patch" -- saving approximately 0 bytes of download over someone without the CD.
With PLEXes in jita selling for nearly 400 million this is definitely a great time for anyone wanting either cheap in-game ISK or cheap game time.
And in summary, bigger blobs are the answer. Now what was the question? |
