Edited by: Whitehound on 05/05/2009 06:08:53 Hello,
To get anywhere in this game does one need at least a half year of skill training - if not a year (i.e. 1 small & 1 medium weapon + specialization + tanking + ship ...). This takes a lot of time, is boring as hell and of course costs money. With the recent changes to character creation - more learning speed but less starting skills - does this experience get stretched even further.
On the other hand are players offering high skilled characters for ISK, which means that there is a market and that these can be purchased for real money by using PLEXes.
Please, make level 5 skills purchasable for real money. Set a limit per character on the number of purchasable skills, value the price for a skill by its rank (i.e. rank 1 level 5: $10; rank 2: $20; rank 3: $30; ...) and allow only for some skills to be purchasable (i.e. only skills with less than 5 prerequisites).
Frankly, EVE sucks when players with 5 years of experience are lurking right outside high-sec and only to tear every noob apart, and the EVE shop offers me hats, t-shirts and posters to go along with it. Allow me to give you the money straight away. -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |

Edited by: Lear Hepburn on 05/05/2009 06:23:42 Ah, the old "can't catch up with the skills" fallacy.
Get a frigate (Rifter would likely be most recommended around here). Skill all you need to a decent level to fit it out; this should take a few months at most to get most skills to lvl IV/V. You are now of a similar skill level to the 5 year pilot in that discipline.
Basically, specialisation is key.
As to your idea, no. Just because you can afford it doesn't mean anyone else can. Why should metagaming rich kids get the advantage?

You can't sell them on Ebay. However, you CAN sell and buy for in game ISK via the Character Sales forums right here. ----- Why doesn't anyone ever read the forums before posting? EVE is a game of adaptation and planning. Adapt or die. |

I saw a pvp video or 2 2 day characters in rifters really ripping the place up against older players. Nice fun to watch.
I think it less or characters skill points and more of your skill level in games.
Go back to hello kitty or those f2p games where you can buy the max level.

No. I don't see where waiting for skills can be called "earned". Yeah ... skill all you need, right. I am completely with you.
Sure, eventually I will get there, but in the time I wait for skills to complete do I just login, queue another skill and logout. In the meantime do I spend my money on other games. I would rather like to spend it on EVE. -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |

I can't understand. Any noob can go to 0.0 secs and paricipate in PVP. It's not that hard, just join a corporation that recruits just everybody (my corp recruits even noobs the only thing it shouldn't be a trial (already paid subscription) and we're Russian corp) Noobs can do something. First of all several 2 monthes noobs in Cruisers can easily kill 5 year character, because quantity in EVE always rules. It's not Lineage where 78 lvl warcryer can kill even 20-30 lvl 40 characters without any problem, here one man even if he played for 5 years is limited in what he can and what he cannot.
How to participate in PVP after 1-2 week of play? Just try to find a corporation from a big alliance that is recruiting and lives in 0.0 sec, then take any frigate (Rifter for example), 1 MN Microwarpdrive I and Warp Disruptor I, starting as a tackler isn't that bad, and continue training skill after 3-4 monthes u will be able to help in a BC, and after year u almost certainly will be able to fly at least one ship on high level, any further training is usually extensive, u just train more and more ships and that's it. And 5 year characters main difference is that they can fly more ships, and have a little bit better skill. But still that doesn't matter, if u can fly normally only one ship it's already good enough. If u want to try more just pay for more accounts it's not that expensive. As i see it, most of the people that play for at least 1 year have 2 or more accounts. ------------------------------------------------- I am envoy from nowhere in nowhere. Nobody and nothing have sent me. And though it is impossible I exist ¬ Trimutius |

Oh, I do play. I have 4mil SP, made 150mil ISK, got 30,000m3 of loot, severel agents at 9.0, some ships, but that is not point.
What exactly is it that you would loose if I could buy me some skills? You probably already have them. I think you would win new players who could actually be a challenge. Where is the fun in fighting a million unskilled noobs? The skill gap will only get worse the older EVE gets. -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |

So you are agreeing with my idea. You want me to train skills and to buy a second account.
However, I do not want to put money into a second account and for having two skill queues. I want a more direct solution and to a problem we all share. -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |

Not like this "gap" is main concept of eve or something. And if you think that sp is what makes good players good, then you sir fail miserably. Also CCP already shown multiple times what they think about changing eve into another mainstreem-wowlike-mmo which sure would bring them a lot more money so argument that this will bring more players can be directed right to /dev/null.

Any concept, which is not changing, will fail given enough time. It is players who use their 5 years of skills to do can flipping, or to do gate camping right at a gate to high-sec. Theoretically, these players should be found deep within EVE, in 0.0. What it means is that not everyone is playing EVE in a way one may think it is intended to be played. However, the more of these players EVE has the less of the new players will stay with EVE. I feel like leaving, because it is just getting more boring.
If I could skip some of the waiting and to get into a ship with equipment to at least survive an engagement (i.e. a T2 interceptor) I would probably have some more fun. Until then do I read the forums, queue another skill, do some trading, work another agent up to 9.0, and keep looking for a better game (i.e. D3, who knows?). -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |

1.Wrong Assumption: EvE isnt meant to be played in one "intended" way. 2.Wrong Assumption: It doesnt matter for a noob if a old player can handle his dread 5% better or not. Its not important if he can fly 1,2 or 8 different HACs.
You dont understand the skill system of EvE because if you did you wouldnt complain here. I bet if you manage to play the next year you¦ll lose lots of your ships in pvp (if you pvp) to players which spend time to get the real skill instead of whining on the forum. SP is nothing after some months and those months are full of stuff someone can do and has to learn.

I wrote "one may think". It does not mean that I think it has to be played in an intended way. Instead do I defy any intended way of playing EVE. Just as I do not intend to become the boot licker of a carebear for example.

Of course it matters! You are the noob here if you think 5% do not matter!
It is not about 5% or 2% gains. It is about not being able to train skills with high prerequisites. -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |

One thing that I loved about this game is that I didn't have to grind XP to level up like WOW or Star Wars Galaxies. I had to set a training plan and organize what I really wanted in piloting. If they made it so you could buy your way to success it would crush the purpose of the game because one would simply buy the skills they wanted instantly get to the top and no one would have fun because tactics vs. unpredictability would no longer really exist to the average player. Plus I still take pride that "One day I will fly a carrier." gives you the satisfaction of owning one when you put in the time to get it. Put in your time like everyone else.

Edited by: Whitehound on 05/05/2009 12:35:47 In addition, imagine special offers like:
$99 for a T2 Interceptor, all required skills and a 3-month subscription.
What a great way to start EVE and it would make a nice Christmas present, too.
Again, I am not asking to make all skills purchasable, but only some, to ease the entry into EVE and to have a first good ship.
The rookie ship really is just a joke, and the T1s thereafter or only good for mission running and PvP sparing. -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |

One of the things that makes this game so different is that you have to grind the SP up.. spend a month getting BC trained to 5 so you can fly your first Command Ship or training up Destroyers so you'll be able to jump in your first Dictor and go crazy with the bubble spamming
If you're so keen on being able to buy skills for úú's, do like so many others.. Buy GTC's, sell for isk, head over to the Character Bazaar forum, buy pre-trained character with said isk.
What you'll find is that you've just denied yourself an intrigal part of the game by doing this.. EXPERIENCE!! Sure, you've got a char who can now fly a multitude of ships (and fittings), but where's the satisfaction of knowing you did this yourself ? The aniticaption of getting that last skilled trained and buying your first ship ? The knowledge you've got from using similar weapons & mods on others ships whilst waiting for that last skill to finish ? The experience of knowing what certain skills trained have done to your ships stats ?
All gone..
You'll jump into your new char, go PvP & still get your butt handed to you by some 6 month old and his mate... and we see this happening all the time
So, you have 3 choices (and apologies if they sound a bit blunt):
1. Do like the rest of us & be here for the long haul with training
2. Buy GTC's, sell for isk, Buy a ready made char
3. Go Play another game ______________________________________
