... what would EVE online look like?
I suspect that all the newer players would immediatly join EVE Uni, or a similar organisation. The mission runners & industrialists would be forced to form corps and arrange security patrols.
So far so good.
However, alliances might begin claiming low/high sec in the same way as they informally claim certain NPC 0.0 systems, something which could cause problems for newer players trying to get into the game.

Aside from that high note, the rest of the symphony would be a cacophony of catastrophe and woe.
Oh, it would be fun for the hard core PvP'ers for a while.
Until they had to start mining their own minerals so they can manufacture their own ammunition, because no one else will do it, or if they will, the prices are so high no one will pay them.
My guess would be that within 6 - 9 months enough people will have quit the game that CCP would have to shut it down.
But people call me a pessimist and a cynic.

You're operating under the assumption that the reason they haven't done this already is because they aren't forced to. Did it ever occur to you that maybe they reason they haven't done this is because they don't want to?
As for the new players joining EVE-UNI, that's great. Assuming they don't quit within two hours because they can't even undock to complete the tutorials. --Vel

I suppose the fact that people can leave EVE before they become addicted is a problem. Maybe give them 3 month's immunity to get them hooked?

Edited by: RedSplat on 19/05/2009 20:39:01 Security status in Highsec systems shouldn't be static.
Faction Pirate NPC's abide in Highsec- why doesn't CONCORD kill them when they agress a player?
Why don't Pirate rats spawn Naval rats and duke it out?
Why don't Highsec systems change security based on the number of Concord infractions that occur or player killings?
Carebears
Derive from that what would happen if CONCORD ceased to exist.

Only on SiSi. I think they did a free for all a year (maybe two? It wasd before my time, but I have heard the stories) ago. They locked up Concord, seeded all the markets, and set all the systems to 0.0

For a game like Eve online which is governed by string, arbitrarily imposed rules.. the game whould crumble with the consequences labeled above. If Eve started without the concept of highsec, it whould still be going strong, just in a way that current Eve players cannot envision playing. I believe that a system in which players enforce their own rules or has the possibility to bend rules at their peril is a better way to deal with protection then anything else.

This is posted this in C&P. Not in the Game Dev Forum, not in the Ideas & Suggestions Forum, and certainly not in the CSM Forum. So please do not accuse me of such rubbish - I'm not asking anyone to "nerf hisec".
I was discussing the nature of piracy on another thread and said something about concord's laws not defining the meaning of piracy. That got me thinking about what a GAME like EVE would look like if there were no Concord, if everywhere were effectively 0.0 space.
Anyway ...
A lot of people who live in low sec and null sec do travel to hi sec for buying ships and equipment. One consequence of such a no-security world could be that we would be forced to have more local markets because long distance travel would be far more dangerous for everyone.

I think it'd be much more fun to see what happened if all of eve became high-sec for a day instead of 0.0.
Basically all the naptrains in 0.0 would seize (as they're no longer needed). Goons and NC would stop chestbashing in CAOD. In fact CAOD would seize to have purpose. No more stupid POS bashing (I don't care what anyone says, it's useless pointless and a stupid system) wardecs would roam new eden concord would get filthy rich from said wardecs

Not necessarily.
You can still get your pewpew by wardeccing people. Concidering other MMO's this system would probably be more in-line with other major mmo's than eve's current system.
Also, TBH, I know a few bad-ass pvpers and they ONLY do empire wardecs because they HATE the whole POS/sov blobbing thing.
Think about it.
Empire wardecs means: roaming gangs, nice targets, no more systemlagblobs where EVERYONE dies without even being able to SEE when they die due to HORRIBLE lag etc etc.
If those few people that only live for blob pos capital warfare can't adapt to a more lag-free, fun and smaller pewpew evironment were to quit eve cuz of such a change, screw them. __________________________________________________

I have been thinking about it
Empire Wardecs:
Monumentally ****ed in the ass, exploitable and the victim can corp hop or avoid ALL PvP by simply joining a NPC corp.
Add in docking games, CONCORD making non-consensual PvP an activity undertaken by suicide gank only and giving those without negative Sec. status the keys to the castle (think about how aggression mechanics would work for christs sake, non-blinkies would always have the advantage of picking fights and numerical advantages)
I think i would rather abolish Highsec as it is, have all highsec be Lowsec; but Lowsec with seriously buffed Sentry guns and a faction navy.

Funny.. The instant I logged in I shot at a 'former blinky' corp mate because he was red and not blinky red and had a red skull and not a green star for the icon.. Shortly after getting yelled at I changed the overview settings.
