This, i'd rather the hardware thats going to be powering it powered MOAR REGIONS.
Why do we need more regions? It's hard to find people as it is. We were so hardpressed for targets at home that we showed up on the forefront of the invasion an ****ed on a 2 huge alliances just to have some people to shot at.. more regions means we'd have to look even harder for people to kill.
Back on topic, walking inside your ship could be fun, but again, without any purpose it'll be just a waste of time and resources. We need 2142 mixed into EVE, then all that "walking" and "looking" and "inside ships" could be put to good use for fighting and taking over ships.
yep because evey single person in eve plays the game like you do.

Got to love all these all-knowing creatures on this forum saying how bad WiS will be before its even out, same naysayers that said adding T3 ships was a bad idea or wormholes, or new servers....
What I'm trying to say, or rather; to understand is how can you guys know that something not even released yet will be crap/boring etc? WiS doesn't mean Wow-In-Space, please stop thinking it is. Adding new stuff to a game is something every game-developer has to do periodically, if no the game would just fade away. I say, that eve has been lucky that not many other MMO's has copied the stuff that makes it unique already (one massive server, free exp packs++), because if they did, and simultaneously listened to you guys it would have been forgotten about ages ago.
CCP has managed to keep EVE what it is this far, give CCP the credit for that and for the fact that WiS will be good - if it turns out not to be when its released, just quit.
Without becoming to philosophical and poetic: Space is a cold, dark place. To be perfectly honest a little wow-in-space wouldn't be so bad really, social stuff is sorely needed in eve.

walking in stations
do you people also still believe in santa claus, the easter bunny and planetary interaction?
and since they cut out the feature to see your ships in the hangar (like in the vid they showed) i don't want it anymore
you can keep your wis

The easiest solution would be to have specially designed passenger transport ships, so that you can have parties in a ship designed for the purpose. The ship would have emergency escape pods and pod receiving systems, so that you could go around rescuing corpies who have been podded recently.
It would open a new aspect to eve, imagine trying to track down a pleasure ship with a party of 30 pilots on board, chase it down from it's tour and *pop*... *popity*.
Of course you'd need to figure out a way to convince so many pod pilots to get on a tour liner based ship and fly through lowsec... maybe as a pilot transport, so that when a carrier jumps in the pilots can transfer to their ships effortlessly.
Meh, ideas which make the game more fun and better performing are always good... |

Yeah, ok, so this topic is a little old now, but meh.
WiS, if it ever happens, can only be a good thing. Sure, theres more server load than if the people in the station were just sitting there, but no more load than if those people were undocked and moving around.
Since I for one seem to spend 70-80% of my time ingame sitting in station talking **** in local or in corpchat, being able to chill out in a station lounge or hangar would be a nice touch.
I can see a few problems though, for instance
*** You have just been podded, you wake up in the clone bay, nice. You need to update your clone before going back to the fight, no problems. Crap, theres a line for the upgrade terminals. ***
Walking in ships is also 'nice' but completely pointless, as, as has been mentioned, you are in a pod, not on the bridge. Having passengers in space is absurd IMHO, unless it is a 'pod storage array' or something on a capital (which we have alreadyin a way, with cloning facilities aboard some supercaps) which has nothing to do with actually walking around on the ship.
TL;DR - I'm all for WiSTATIONS, WiSHIPS is a crap idea.

Edited by: Shirei Fenikkusu on 06/10/2009 02:54:50 Actually, the first area you go to after leaving your pod is in fact your quarters aboard your ship. Although you can't do this while in-space, you will probably be able to invite friends into your quarters.
I have a feeling that WIS will be an attempt to integrate DUST with EVE so that Eve pilots will be able to socialize with DUST soldiers in the station environment.
The whole point of WIS is to give you something to do while not in space. You can role-play, get a drink, play a stategy game, talke face to face with corp-mates, etc.
CCP has stated that WIS will not be required, but there will be advantages to using the feature.
And if the rumors are true that DUST will be out by May 14, 2010, we have less than 8 months until WIS, since they apparently want to release WIS before DUST.

Personally if WiS fell into oblivion and never made it out of the internal test server I wouldn't shed a tear.
My feeling would be complete disinterest as it is with WiS

its pretty easily to have like a star trek style viewing screen while you walk around your ships 'bridge'.
quite simply because it is just rendered on your computer it wouldn't cause any extra lag from the game. maybe a lower frame rate but that isn't the same as network lag.
of course walking in ships/stations is a dumb idea in general

I don't know about actually having a fully modeled ship interior to explore, but it would be awesome to see some concept art or the floor plans and such of a ship or two of each class, to really get a concept of size and crew accommodations and all of that.

in the EVE book, there is a carrier that has an internal pod gantry, allowing the pilot to walk around in his ship.
as for usefulness, as has been said, you could potentially have players dock their ships in a mothership (the new ones, not the super-carriers) and chill in your ship, then jump away, carrying your pilots and their ships into or away from battle. Perhaps they could even assist in any necessary repairs while they're running around inside.

Walking on ships serves no purpose to be honest... if it exited it would be only for show off.
However it would be cool that DUST players can board capital ships and fight for them on there decks versus defenses and other dust players that would board to defend ... but it is just fantasy :D
