Hey everyone,
CCP has made is clear that we will be getting to walk around in stations sometime in the near future. However what about walking around your ships?
SWG (star wars galaxies) had this feature, and I personally loved it. Being able to bring some freinds on your yt-3000? (amiright?) or that big miner ship, was a fun thing to do. Also being able to set up furniture and other items around your ship to make it look like a party boat.
What would your feeling be if CCP implemented something like this?
(I think they should do it after the main release.)

would be nice but that mean people can fly together in 1 ship which make some of the other actions (like pvp) a bit hard because all people onboard die...
also local count will not be correct (now 1 person = 1 ship/pod) you can for example then have 1 ship (BS) with 8 people in it =] _________________________________________ Symbaloo - start simpel http://www.symbaloo.com/ |

I shouldn't be too hard to make it so players could man cannons and guns in ships, with the ship owner calling out main targets like a tank commander in a RL main battle tank. Would be kind of fun. But of course it would drastically change the game, which may not be desireable. Would require possibly to expensive changes to the UI to switch from the current view we have today to one which depends on your assigned role in the ship.
But if they did that, we could also give corps the right to build space stations, and pvp could ramp up to station attacks, alliances which actually mean something, and so on. Like, I could be out blasting pirates with my cruiser and get a distress call from an allied station, and decide to drop and warp to their defense, or ignore it. With rep depending on how they view my actions.
Well thought out, it would make old SWG (the only one that counted, post-NGE SWG is worthless) look like ancient technology. I know BattleCruiser Online tried very hard to do it, but was too ambitious to ever really work right. Though the guy is near-genious imho.
Anyway, the more CCP can expand gameplay options, the more the game will be played. Even simple stuff like scheduling skill training, which is highly restricted now. I've not played a game that allowed me to queue skill training, but it could be made much more interesting.

I see walking in the stations as being popular for a month or so. Then it will be totally forgotten about. Because it servers no useful purpose in the game.

Yes :P
If I remember SWG had the system so that all people on board the ship where killed, but they didnt have any "pod" or clone system like EvE does. But however they did have a escape pods that would allow you to "escape" and portal you onto the planet you launched from.
If EvE implemented something like this, it wouldn't be to hard to have "standby" pods for pilots to enter on the ship. Once ejected, they would appear like any other pod in space. ----- Are you a [SERVICE] Provider?

There was an awesome early video of WiS with a couple of chars checking a Zealot from outside. It was gourgeous....

Edited by: THE L0CK on 29/05/2009 16:17:11 So if you jump out of your pod to have a stroll around, who's piloting the ship?
And does that mean someone could jump in the pod and steal your ship with you on it?

Now there is an idea. Breaking in to unattended docked ships and stealing them. It would require hacking skills to pick the electronic locks.

It would be too much work to release this at first, but I'm sure CCP has all sorts of ideas for expanding WIS after the initial expansion hits.

While walking in ships would be nifty I think it breaks the whole capsuleer concept. What does intrigue me though is multi-pod ships. The pilot could assign modules to the other 'installed pods'. That would make for some interesting strategy perhaps. "Dang that pilot switches targets fast." Would me more useful if ships had more modules, but I'd never want that.
Anyways... nifty idea.... will never happen. Wait for Eve Online IV. =D

I want wlaking in Ships almost as much as I want Walking in Stations and that tbh is nothing more than a bloody 5 second novelty that most people will switch off after the first look-see.
Personally if WiS fell into oblivion and never made it out of the internal test server I wouldn't shed a tear.
My feeling would be complete disinterest as it is with WiS

Why do we need more regions? It's hard to find people as it is. We were so hardpressed for targets at home that we showed up on the forefront of the invasion an ****ed on a 2 huge alliances just to have some people to shot at.. more regions means we'd have to look even harder for people to kill.
Back on topic, walking inside your ship could be fun, but again, without any purpose it'll be just a waste of time and resources. We need 2142 mixed into EVE, then all that "walking" and "looking" and "inside ships" could be put to good use for fighting and taking over ships.

There are legitimate gameplay reasons to have passengers in some ships - in particular carriers are just crying out for some sort of passenger transport capability. Pilots stow their ships with pods inside the maintenance bay, carrier then jumps to another system and the pilots are there ready to launch.
Nearest you can get to this right now is ships with a clone vat bay allow players to jump clone one the ship reaches the destination, but that's limited to once every 24 hours so it's not really a viable combat tactic.
Rorquals, Orca's, Carriers, Motherships and Titans could all make use of this.

like a casino or sansha's battle station...

EvE has many directions CCP can go. For a space game, it seems like every door is open, from conquring planets, to hostile ship takeovers, eve has the potential to become a mixed FPS / MMORPG.
Really the possibilities are endless. ----- Are you a [SERVICE] Provider?

Walking in ships could greatly add to immersion. We invest so much on our ships and spend so much time in them, that we deserve to see the inside, and be able to look out at the Universe.
The standard inside view could be like that of most flight sims. When on autopilot, you could move around the ship- depending on the size, type etc.
T3 ships could have a Passenger Module, which could be fitted and used for carrying multiple players around. This could be great fun in 3D. Large windows, warp tunnels, jumps- great place for a party.

I have to wonder what would be the point of walking in ships, people are already asking that question about WIS. Considering only 1 person can inhabit a ship theres no room for socialising which is the main feature of WIS. Walking in ships would be serious fail. _______________________________________ [a cool picture here] |

CCP would have to reconcile the whole pod concept to do this....I mean, all your buddies would be having a party and you as a pilot would be in an egg?
