Do you want Mechanic at 5? Do you want Electronics at 5? Do you want Engineering at 5?
The answer to all these questions is "yes". They all fall under the category of "support skills everyone should get to 5 early on".
Yeah but I already have the others at 5, and I'd have to trian mechanics. Quite frankly from it's description it doesn't really sell its way up on the priority list. Much like Survey 5, it may be a prereq for other things but if it was a skill all on its own would I get it? Probably not. Until I realized how nice haveing 25% buffer points in an emergency really is. |

I thought so too, but then I trained it and having those extra targets up there is actually great for a lot of things...

Mechanic V is also a prereq for assault ships. |

When I was putting these together I did think "and then some players will train useless skills just to get certificates, and SOME PEOPLE WILL DIE, heh heh heh".
And now I've trained Shield Emissions Systems V on my Amarr character just so I can get the Logistics Chief Elite cert...
(The Controlled Bursts thing and the armor tanking requiring shields and vice versa thing should now both be fixed.) |

Despite Tactical Shield Manipulation having obvious benefits for armour tanking. |

Edited by: Donatien de''Sade on 05/06/2009 20:25:28 First quick look at odd cert skill requirements:
Basic Business Tycoon requires Improved Business Mogul
Improved Business Tycoon requires 2 skills (Wholesale, Margin Trading) that themselves have a requirement of L5 Retail and L4 Accounting - not really justified at such a low level of cert.
Edit: some more:
Basic Rare Ore Refiner requires 3 x L4 skills - this should be L3 skills to be in line with the other harvest skill certs.
Some of the Leadership cert requirements are just strange

I demand a Hero Tanking cert, tbh.
On topic, I know at least a couple people who get way too hung up on certificates. As in, they won't fly a Battleship until they have the Improved/Elite certs for everything related to them. While I can see the logic there, it's a long time to hang out in a cruiser.
For most people, though, I will agree that they are a good tool, the only problem is for crusty old vets like me with 40m skillpoints and only a handful of elite certs .

Yep, many of the certs makes no sense whatsoever. Funniest ones are actually the basic passive tanking ones. They require a buttload of skills.
Not to mention the refining / mining certs. Those REALLY don't make sense. Who in his right mind that doesn't live in the utmost butthole of 0.0 universe EVER trains an ore processing skill to 5? I mean..really? They're only useful if you have the crappiest refining array ever...and to save like...3% waste. And that's for the standard cert??? WUT? |

Edited by: Benco97 on 19/06/2009 09:51:35 I pay little attention to the certs myself, it's hard to use them to plan your training when you instantly earned a significant portion of them the moment they were introduced.

Hello , my name is Xthril Ranger and I am a certificate addict.
just 14 more days until I got all the elite leadership certificates.
I am now thinking of training all the racial drone specialisation skills to lvl5 so I can get the last elite drone certificate. That is a whooping 96 days of training for 2% more damage with tech 2 drones.

I did that one too (and my only public one)
at least it is useful to fit t2 shield boost amps
just finished off elite cartographer on my alt. must say I miss the exploration probes for finding ships from a while back, was rather nice, now doing the 4x probe spam on them just takes too much effort. cant stand ninja looting now. probed down a golem and he even had a domi come in and I couldn't get a fight (I was in a domi) |

Originally by: Estel Arador I just had to get the Core Competency Elite certificate (and Hull Tanking!), but other than that I've managed to stay clear of a 'certificates-addiction'.
I was managing to avoid getting hooked on claiming them all, but now ive fallen to the addiciton too.
Im blaming the recent update to EVEMon for making it worse though :( -------

I already had multitasking 3 when the certs were added :D
I have all the elite shield tanking certs and am on my way to all the armour tanking ones too. I'm also a week away from the elite logistics cert too! I havent yet planned training around a certificate though - I plan by ship.
However despite having awesome torp/cruise skills the lack of advanced rocket skill is preventing me from claiming a whole load of missile certs and quite frankly it seems like too much effort. |
